Coraline Trailer

Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for Coraline, the next stop-motion animation movie from Henry Selick. Damn, does this just look incredible or what! The film is about a young girl who finds a secret door in her house and discovers an alternate version of her life. If you're at all a fan of stop-motion or the Nightmare Before Christmas, you'll definitely want to check this out. The story is actually based on a book by Neil Gaiman, which should tell you that it'll be pretty damn good. I also really love the look of that cat - I think he's going to be the best part of it. Take a look for yourself and let us know what you think!

Coraline is both written and directed by Henry Selick, who directed the other stop animation movies The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Monkeybone. The film is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name. Coraline is set to arrive in theaters on February 6th, 2009.

I think it's odd that the trailer doesn't even mention the fact that its based on the book by Neil Gaiman... It should have said "from the author of Stardust"... etc.

Finally... best trailer of the last couple months. Sold the Story, sold the characters, no cheesy 3-D Gimmicks, and got me excited for the movie without giving the whole damned plot. LOVE IT... been looking forward to this trailer for over a year.

I'm very disappointed in the approach they took to this. The book was wonderful and creepy as hell. This looks...loud. And childish...too childish. I hate that we insist on dumbing things down for kids. What happened to the good old days of scaring children shitless with stories by the Brothers Grimm and Edgar Allen Poe. Neil Gaiman created a modern-day Grimm's fairytale...and Hollywood turned it into what you just saw above. Boo-hiss.

The book was actually REALLY creepy. This looks much too happy and cute and watered down. I thought they were making a mistake the instant they said they weren't doing live action, actually. That's a shame.
