Eden Log Trailer

The official US trailer for the French sci-fi flick Eden Log has popped up online today courtesy of IGN. I first heard about this film a year or so ago but it only started appearing in North America this year. It first played at the Toronto Film Festival then at Fantastic Fest and unfortunately I missed all of its screenings at both fests. I don’t know how to describe this nor can I even explain what’s going on in it – it looks like some sort of dark, intimate, horror film set in a sci-fi tinged future. Does it look good? Possibly, in a twisted way, so I guess I’ll have to see it to figure that out. At least it’ll be a unique experience, that’s for sure.

A man wakes up naked, deep in a dark cave. He’s cold, in mud, and has no idea what brought him here, nor what happened to the dead man next to him. Around him, darkness and ruins of an ancient underground world, haunted by phantoms of an obsolete technology and by terrible, wild creatures chasing him. To find out who he is, Tolbiac will have to get to the surface, through this strange network of galleries, abandoned by a mysterious organization called Eden Log.

Eden Log is directed and co-written by first-time French filmmaker Franck Vestiel. The script was written by Vestiel and first-timer Pierre Bordage. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year in the Midnight Madness section and was picked up by Magnet Releasing as part of the Six Shooter Film Series. Eden Log will arrive in limited theaters starting in February 2009.

i watched the movie already, and let me tell you: it was a huge disappointment! there is no real end, the whole thing is just a guy wandering in dark tunnels until his eco-esoteric deliverance at the end... so lame! it's an other would-be intellectual movie from the old continent... watch it through torrent, don't waste your money on this shit!

I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival. I liked how you discover what's going on at the same time as the main character, with the film only having dialogue when it's needed. Though it's probably not for everyone.

I don't know why but I thought it was all cgi... probably had to do with the look and style of the film. Doesn't look that great.

I feel conflicted. Should I watch this version or wait until Steven Speilberg and Will Smith do the remake.

What a boring movie. Half the time you have no idea where you are or why you're there. The "clues" the character finds don't make sense to the viewer and they took me out of the movie trying to figure out their importance. The French tend to make all their movies too artsy with way too much attmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I like to think during movies but usally I'm not thinking, "Why am I watching this".

THis looks like it'd be an awesome video game, but a boring movie.

I have no idea what this movie is about, that either means it was a bad trailer for a good film or a really good trailer for a bad one. If I had to choose I'd go with the lather, this looks to be all style no substance, something that would be made from a music video director. I'm french canadian and love good french movies because they tend to stray from the hollywood type movies but I have absolutely no interest in this.

I love a good psychological thriller, and am not easily rattled, and the first half of the movie is unbelievably creepy and disturbing. It also contains an extremely uncomfortably violent rape scene. however as soon as the 2nd half of the movie kicks in, the movie goes to shit. The 2nd half is so convoluted that the film folds in on itself like a black hole. I had to watch it twice, and it still barely made any sense. too many unanswered questions. But it's a good watch nonetheless. Visually it's stunning. The Musical score is also quite good.
