Guardians of Ga'Hoole

Although it's considerably hard to take our mind off of Watchmen at the moment, we can't forget that one of Zack Snyder's other upcoming projects is an animated version of the children's books Guardians of Ga'Hoole from Scholastic. We first announced that Snyder was directing the animated film way back in April, which is slated for release sometime in 2010. The Daily Telegraph reveals today that not only is Australian actor Ryan Kwanten providing his voice for the film, but so is Hugh Jackman and Hugo Weaving. It looks like Snyder is rounding up one hell of a voice cast for his first animated feature film.

The movie is based on a New York Times bestselling series of books written by Kathryn Lasky. The books are set in the Forest of Tyto where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil that could destroy their home. The script for the adaptation was written by John Orloff ("Band of Brothers", A Mighty Heart) and John Collee (Master and Commander, Happy Feet). Although I don't expect this to get anything other than a PG rating, I've been waiting to see darker and more adult animated movies, somewhat like Shane Acker's 9, and hoped Snyder would bring us the first one like that. Only time will tell!

I'm sure this film will answer the age old question of how many licks it takes to get the center of a tootsie pop.

Dang it would be cool if Zack made this a dark animated movie like Shane Acker's 9 and that looks amazing i hope Zack makes the right decision.

I hadn't heard of this. It seems like a lot of big-name directors are jumping into animated films these days. Wonder why that is? (See also: Peter Jackson/Steven Spielberg, M. Night Shayamalan... sorry, I'm sorry there are more, but I don't remember them.)

It was a relitavely dark book for being written for young children. I enjoyed them. How far will he go, though, to match to the books indirect graphic violence and... Questionable ideas of brainwashing chicks and such? Only time shall tell...! I'm looking forward to it either way.

I own and have read all 15 books and trust me, if these same people made happy feet, it will soil Kathyrn Lasky's good series. Or who knows it good be a pretty good film. But i hope they use more life like animation than happy feet

i hav read the book series and they r pretty good, but the first few books rnt as good as the last few... i dont think that they will make all 13 or somethin movies, and i hope they dont try to squash them all into just a few and leave out some good parts. the books rnt all that dark and evil till the last few, and if the older adults r looking for some dark stuff, they better pray the first movie doesnt dive bomb and nobody want to make the last ones. im also kina tired of everybody making movies of all the books out that i hav read. it ruins my imaginative pictures in my head till the only pictures i see when im reading the books again is the movie. y cant movie writters just make up a new story instead of taking someone elses ideas huh?

Well I'm a big fan of the book series. I own, and have read, all 15 of 'em. I myself don't actually think this will have a PG rating. I think that it will have a PG-13 rating. The books have alot of wars, violence, and stuff like that. Snyder directed Watchmen, and 300 so I think that it's fair to say that this movie will have some violence. In one of the books there's an owl who rips out another owl's heart. Of course that kind of stuff won't be in here but it leaves to reason that there will be some good action in store.

Plus, i don't know why some of you guys have a problem with animated movies? It's not like they're any worse than live action movies. I believe that both live action movies, and animated movies have their ups and downs. Other than the fact that one is animated of course, they aren't that different. There is no other way they could've done this movie. It would be extremely disappointing if they decided to use live owls, and do that crappy animation thing where they make the animal's mouths move. I am sure that Mr. Snyder did the best he could for this movie.
