Blog Myth Kills Us
Posted on May 28, 2007
I have no clue who Ron Wagner is, but he posted this comment on my blog:
—
“The biggest myth that I know of…if you have a private blog and you make it a sales blog…it will be canceled!
This is not a myth. This is true. Wordpress wants these blogs to be non commercial…and to maintain that…they simply cancel you.
First hand experience is the best. Now you know too.”

My response - you have no clue what you’re talking about.
Ron, stop writing lies. WordPress is no discriminator. Anybody can have a WordPress blog whether it’s personal or business related. Browse through their directory and you’ll convince yourself.
Please, stop believing the myths and stop buying into hype.
I told you before and will repeat - if you host your WordPress blog on your host, WordPress can’t remove or cancel your blog since it’s set-up on your own web host. Period.
Next time think twice before you spread the lies.

Codrut-
Go easy on Ron, he must have a reason to believe the information he posted is true.
He probably read one of the Guru’s propaganda Sales)pages about how to create blogs !
I have a blog which I guess could be classified as commercial. I am a reseller of affiliate based products, and use my blog to inform people about the products I sell. I also post articles regarding Internet Marketing.
I’ve not gotten anything from WordPress regarding my not being able to do that. I’ve looked at their site info and have found nothing regarding this subject.
Now Blogger and BlogSpot will dump you if they deem your blog to not be what they want.
I am hosting WordPress on a remote server, and the software is Free (GNU Licensed) so I really don’t see how they can dictate what you do with the software once you’ve installed it.
I don’t believe Ron Wagner is serious. He must me joking.
Ron Wagner is absolutely correct!
“Your blog. wordpress.com” can not be commercial. If you host your blog at wordpress.com ( not wordpress.org where you can download the goodies)it must be non-commercial. You are allowed a signature type text link ad in your sidebar or about page and a donation request.
Here is a quote from the forums :
“(1) Generally speaking wordpress.com blogs are non-commercial blogs. Wordpress.com blogs cannot be used to conduct business transactions and/or to drive traffic to commercial sites. Advertising is restricted. Only a single discrete affiliate link is allowed either on the About page or in the sidebar.”
There are some big advantages of wordpress.com blogs. I host very similar blogs on four hosting platforms and the wordpress.com community features and constant no-sweat upgrades and enhancements outperform the others. It’s just too bad they have a rigid noncommercial stance.
I think we would all benefit if our resident blog expert(s)were.
Ron is actually telling a half-truth. If you have a FREE WordPress blog, and you post primarily advertising with little or no original content, for instance cutting and pasting pre-written ad copy from an affiliate website, WordPress will delete your blog and ban you from free membership. I know of a few people that this has already happened to. They weren’t really writing any content, just posting blatant advertising, and WordPress deleted them without warning.
However, if you simply host your blog elsewhere, it is your property and you can use it to sell Old Aunt Molly’s secret recipes or anything else you want. With so many new free web hosts that include WordPress blogs in their packages, there really is no good reason for this to happen any more.
Hi Codrut
I know that English is your second language…or not, but to call someone a liar in this country is PRETTY STRONG english,…and yes I am shouting at you.
It’s amazing…if I said it happened to 6 ‘net friends’ that should be all the evidence I needed.
I was a little behind others in our group when this happened…and still have my free blog, hosted on wordpress….
Codrut…you are achieving what you wanted…some attention!
My fear is that people are being suckered into your scheme for making money and the only one making it will be you.
Ron
Actually Codrut, I disagree about the way you bring this topic up…you shouldn’t reveal the person responsible for the comment because you never know the real fact behind the person comment…so, in the future, I suggest that you investigate the comment first before posting something like this…it is embarrassing if someone saying that ‘you are lying’…this doesn’t mean that I agree with what Ron done 100% but Ron should have made his comment clear…so next time, it pays to be careful…
Mr. Ron, stop shouting at me. You need to specify that wordpress.com blogs can be canceled if you don’t abide by their terms, which mean, you can’t do web commerce with them…
All you did was start the comment with a partial truth. Stop spreading more blogging myths.
WordPress.org solution, if hosted on your web host, it’s going to be your blog platform, and you can do whatever with it, even advertise on it. Period.
Codrut Turcanu.
I have to agree with Codrut on his last comment, Ron should have stated wordpress.com not just wordpress.
Everyone knows that a self hosted wordpress blog cannot be cancelled by anyone, it’s yours, just like your website is yours. Do anything you like with it.
In fact most of the high cost monthly membership sites are on a wordpress platform and if thats not commercial, I don’t know what is!

I’ve never tried blogging before. I have responded to some blogs - does that count? So Codrut when you asked ‘WordPress Or Blogger’ I had no idea what it was about. I guess this is how I will learn.
