Is there Mass Appeal to Hacking the iPhone?

Hacking the iPhone. There are tons of articles written about it. There are full websites dedicated to it. But I wonder, how many people actually do it? First, a poll:

I know that part of the appeal to hacking something is to prove that it is hackable. But in the end, what’s the point? Is the GUI really that bad? Do people really have a tough time dealing with Apple’s design? Is the inability to customize the menu background that much of a pain to consider voiding your warranty over?

I have a confession to make: I am too chicken to hack my iPhone. There are great resources with step by step instructions but still I am afraid. Am I alone? I would guess that I am not alone but none of those people that agree with me will spend time reading iPhone websites. I would argue, the real dedicated readers for sites like these are hardcore tech guys who live for hacking the iPhone.

Do I want to try out some of these hacks? Sure. Do I want to play NES directly on my iPhone? Absolutely. But for now I will have to settle with default ringtones and standard icons. So what do you think? If you hacked your iPhone, why did you do it? If you are chicken like me let me know!
