Pocket Informant for iPhone details emerge

It's no secret I have been a long fan of Pocket Informant for the Windows Mobile platform and when WebIS admitted there would be a version for the iPhone I was a happy camper.  Reader Hector Gomez has let us know that WebIS has released details about this upcoming iPhone PIM application and I had to go check it out right away.  Pocket Informant has always been a great boon to productivity with the way it consolidates and presents your PIM data in a highly configurable way.  It has always added great benefit by making it easy to have PIM data linked to other information.  The details that WebIS have provided about the upcoming iPhone version look very nice indeed, although it's important to remember that things will likely change before PI is released later this year.

Probably the most exciting functionality that PI will bring to the iPhone is full-fledged task management along with other great stuff:

General

  • Integrated Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Search
  • Customizable Settings
  • Category Colors and Icons
  • Over the air sync (1.0 or 1.1 feature - pushing hard for 1.0)
  • Journaling (1.1 feature)
  • Push Notifications of Alarms
  • Full Landscape support

Calendar

  • Calendar with Agenda, Day, Week, and Month Views
  • Filmstrip Calendar View in Landscape mode takes advantage of the landscape orientation to see your schedule details
  • Inline Details of each day in the Month provides makes it much easier to read what your schedule is on any given day
  • Time Bars to quickly show your availability
  • Quickly Slide between months with your finger
  • Zoom into a month
  • Drag and Drop Time/Date of appointments

Tasks

  • Full Featured Task Management
  • Default Smart Groups for All, Overdue, Due Today
  • Customizable Smart Groups

Contacts

  • Coverflow Contacts
  • Picture List of Contacts
  • Group by Company
  • Create Appointments from a Contact

If this doesn't get iPhone owners excited I don't know what will.  No word yet on pricing but I'll pay it, I'm sure.

I'd pay for task syncing with exchange. Why on earth it's not built in to the iPhone I don't know.

Gavin, it's not on the Mac either, something to do with iSync I think.

I hope they port that version back to windows mobile actually! That looks so much simpler and straightforward than their overcomplicated beast windows version. In fact, despite the abundance of choices for PIMs in windows mobile, I don't take to any of them because they are so messy, unwieldly and fiddly. They try to cram so much info and options into every screen that you get overwhelmed just looking at it.

I don't understand how yet another calendar, contact list, & to-do list is going to help me. I have a difficult time as it is synching gmail, outlook, & the iPhone as it is.

I'm really looking forward to this. I was a faithful user of PI on my Dell Axim and have missed it since I stopped using that device. Since I now find myself using my iPod touch as PDA of sorts, I'm looking for one program that will handle it all.

Right now I'm using mobileme in conjunction with Remember the milk and ToDo by Appigo to keep my tasks and calendar synced across my Macs, PCs,Blackberry, and iPod touch.
