My Morning Jacket slips into touring outfit
My Morning Jacket will follow its coming European road trip with an extensive North American tour as the group lines up support behind its forthcoming new studio LP.
The tour kicks off Aug. 16 in Louisville, KY, hitting 25 cities on a trek that winds into October. The outing follows a summer European run, as well as various one-offs and festival appearances in June and July, including the band's next appearance, a June 13 slot at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Festival.
North American dates are listed below; the international schedule can be found at the group's website.
"Evil Urges," My Morning Jacket's fifth studio album, is scheduled to drop June 10 via ATO Records. The disc adds funk beats and synthesizers to the band's typical psychedelic southern-rock sound, according to various interviews.
"On the first listen, there's a lot of variety in a lot of different places, but I think after repeated listens, hopefully the listener would understand the similarities more than the differences," frontman Jim James recently told MTV News.
The new record follows MMJ's 2006 live set, "Okonokos," which features 21 tracks and is accompanied by a DVD concert film of the same name. My Morning Jacket's most recent studio offering, "Z," was named the best album of 2005 by LiveDaily's critics.
