Habib Beye has a slight hamstring strain, but is confident of playing tomorrow at Stoke City in the FA Cup for the first time.
Habib Beye – would make great captain for Newcastle United
Habib Beye told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I will leave on Monday for the African Cup of Nations but I am looking forward to playing first in the FA Cup – and that’s what I am focused on.â€
“The FA Cup is important for the fans of course, but I am hoping to do well in this competition.†“When I was at Marseilles I reached two finals but lost.”
“It’s good for the club and city to do well in the FA Cup. We’d love to be in the final at ensemble.†“Of course we have to beat Stoke first and that will get our confidence levels high again for Manchester United a week later.â€
Beye has played very well in the last couple of months after settling down at St. James’ Park. He continues to put good, consistent and solid performances in for the club at right back. We need a few other players brought in during the summer to do the same as Habib, and we’ll be a lot better off by the end of the season.
Beye was left a little dejected again, at the end of the game against Manchester City when Newcastle were again on the losing end of a game at St. James’ Park. But he had a very good game against one of City’s most dangerous players this season, Bulgarian Martin Petrov.
But the former Marseilles captain Beye believes his experiences as leader of the French giants will put him good stead for the coming tussles that Newcastle will face before the end of the season.
Beye continued:
“It was disappointing against Man City because we played well.†“We created lots of chances but couldn’t get the goal.†“It has been frustrating but I have coped with times like this in Marseilles.”
“Two years ago we had a similar run with Marseilles but we came through it and finished second the next season.†“It can change, you just have to work together.†“Everybody has to work hard and aim for good results.â€
Beye will link up with his Senegalese colleagues after the game tomorrow, but he’s making it clear to Newcastle fans that he is desperate to help turn things around for his club.
Beye added:
“After the game I will link up with Senegal in Senegal for a training camp.†“Then we will go to Ghana but at the moment I am focused only on playing against Stoke.â€
Habib Beye is turning into probably the best buy for the club from last summer, and he looks a very good player and already has a great relationship with the Newcastle fans.
He would certainly make a great captain of the club.

Comment #1out of all our signings i feel guilty for beye the most , he’s joined us at a troubling time and hasnt exactly seen the best side of the toon fans .
altho out of all of them i think he understands us the most .
unlike the rest of them tho, beye has got his head down and got stuck in , and my god does it show .
quality guy and really pleased to have him in the squad .

Comment #6Would be one of the better choices as captain and has had a fine season up to now. Hope he does well @ ANC and comes back uninjured.

Comment #7However, ANC should give him a bit of experience against some very good players so hopefully he will come back into the squad in february even stronger.

Comment #9i think beye’s experience and also cacapa’s have stood them in good stead beye has been good with the media and exemplary on the pitch i think those two players will be good for helpting us out of this rut
i agree on beye for captaincy, but i really rate cacapa also. their leadership skills are both obviously vast and will be very valuable

Hunt, seriously, he’s some legend like. Not only is he a really good player, he’s a really good impact sub, as he’s shown. He’s an immediate impact, he lifts the team really quickly, he supplies really good ball, scores a lot of goals, or at least sets them up, he’s not the tallest of players but you’ll get over that. He’s a head turner, he’s honest, hard working and a bloody good player. He’s a very, very honest player, no Ronaldo diving crap. He’s not a typical Premiership player at all. The refs seem to have it in for him at times. He always give 110% and goes into matches, full blast, going at things 100 miles an hour..going into tackles 100 miles an hour and for that he’s not the refs most favorite player, but he’s no malice in him at all. He’s a very good bright young talent.
One problem..(and I quote)..
“there is no way that Stephen Hunt will be leaving this club at this moment in time,â€
And there in lies the problem.

Comment #18has anyone seen the upsets in the cup!!! Huddersfield 2-1 Birmingham (the same as we beat them!) Blackburn 1-4 Coventry ( we lost 3-1 to them cant believe that score- i come from cov lol) Swansea 1-1 Havent and Waterloo everton 0-1 oldham atm Bolton 0-1 Sheff utd (good on sheff utd i h8 bolton) Brighton 1-2 Mansfield Norwich 1-1 Bury (roeder dont do to well in fa cup- remember 1-5 against brummies). i really hope we aren’t part of the upsets but i think we will shade it stoke 1-2 newcastle. this is good because only chelsea are assured of a place in the 4th round and with some big sides out, we can get some easier draws and get further in the cup…

About the upsets–maybe it’s been “pre-disastered”? All the upsets have come early, so it should be smooth sailing from here on for the big clubs.

Comment #21I would be tempted to play Beye as a centre back for a while to steady the ship a bit. Having said that he is a fantastic right back, very consistent player and he is pretty quick and skillful too.

Comment #24beye would be a good captain, because he is a first teamer, and isnt likely to get sent off as often as smith butt et al. also he aint going to do anything stupid off the pitch ala joey barton
also i think beye is great so he is probably my current choice for captaincy

Comment #25Ah now in fairness, Keane got sent off a lot in his time and was a very VERY good captain. But some people like Keane are built for it, others..well aren’t.
Geremi is being pushed out of it.
Smith, rarely spends the full 90 on the pitch.
Butt, the same as Smith. Lucky if he isn’t subbed or sent off before the end of the match.
We need someone who the other players will listen to.
Now the only one first hand I can think of is Given.
Now Beye, he’s been here 1 season and apparently hasn’t great English. I don’t know if he’d make a great captain. But he has been consistent. So I don’t know.

Comment #27beye is a class act.
came into the squad, kept his head down, and has been fantastic on the pitch.
good with the media, pretty much seems the full package right now to be honest.
surely an obvious choice for our armband.

Comment #28also, he seems very motivational.
look at how he was trying to rally the crowd for one big push come 90 minutes against brum..we gave him it, and what did he do? stuck the ball in the net.
if he can rally the troops on the field like he managed to the fans, then give him the “privelidge” haha.

Comment #29Are we wasting Beye at right back then? Would he be better at centre back? I am starting to think he might be!
A motivator in the centre of defence who tackles well and is quick too. With superb positioning and a good knowledge of the game. Why not just buy a new right back and play him as a centre back?

Comment #33Beye or Cacapa should be above all the other players the captain of our team. I prefer Cacapa (because of his experience and because Beye is away for ACN), but Beye deserves it the most ATM.
But no SA thinks Smith is the ideal man, wtf!!! Does he see anything through other glasses or is he just that stupid???
