Kevin Keegan is rightly putting his priority at the moment on getting enough points to ensure the club stays in the Premier league next season.
Kevin Keegan – more concerned about survival than new players right now
Kevin thinks 40 points will be enough to ensure we are OK, so we still need 12 points in our last 11 league games of the season. Since we have taken only 3 points from our last 10 league games, we still have some work to do to ensure that safety.
We think Kevin will be given enough money in the summer once he has identified the players he wants to bring to the club in the summer:
Kevin told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today when asked if he would have funds to bring in new players:
“We haven’t really discussed it but I was promised money when I came so it’ll be there.†“I don’t think I need worry about that.â€â€œBut the first thing I need to do is get to 40 points and make sure we’re in the Premier League. That’s still there to be done.â€
“Then I’ve got to go and get the three, four or five players that are hopefully going to turn this place around.†“I’ve got a small squad. There are so few options within this squad.â€
“Rome wasn’t built in a day. We didn’t bring them in from day one last time.â€
“We fetched Brian Kilcline in first and they don’t talk too much about it, though they liked him.â€
“Scott Sellars came, then Darren Peacock. They weren’t too excited about those two either. Shearer came in at the end.â€
We can start thinking of bringing players in once we can get a few wins on the board. It will be a long 11 weeks come Saturday since we beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage, which was our last league win. Kevin and his coaching staff are right to concentrate on our league position.
It would be absolutely catastrophic for the club, if we were relegated this season, and stranger things have happened and we are certainly not safe yet.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Ed, it’s great to see that you’ve headlined this story just as it should be, rather than the “Keegan Desperate to Splash Cash’ and “Keegan Eyes Spending Spree’ like some of those online editors desperate for readers! Basically all KK says is that he knows the money is there, and that he is concentrating on survival before thinking of signings.
Still, it will be an interesting summer if Keegan has been promised the cash….cant wait!!

Comment #2I think kev should stop raving about the past, it was over and now its a new type of football, motivation is not everythng now& its more about tactic. He needs to wake up from the past and realise he is having a tough time .

Comment #4LOL @ Steeley. There’ll be a few posters on here cursing you now.
Agree we need to get the team safe from relegation before we start talking about who’s coming in and who’s going out SMITH cough cough.

Comment #6I’m glad to hear we got money to spend, although we’ll need to add more than the 4-5 faces KK’s talking about to have any hopes of getting anywhere. The current lot is just about useless

Comment #7Indeed. How we finish may have some impact on who we can get to sign in the summer. I’m not expecting any big names. What we need now are players who can keep us in the league and get us a little past mid-table. From there we can start attracting bigger players and perhaps more of the high quality youth talent. I’m curious to see where we’ll be in 5 years’ time.

Comment #8Kev has it right he can,t think about anything but getting the results that are going to keep us up.
Let Mr. Wise earn his keep by finding the talent to move us on then in the close season get together with Kevin – Chris – and everybody involved to fetch in only the very best players.

Comment #9KK has alot more experience since he was here the first time as manager and he has had minor success and failures which should make him much better prepared for life in the premiership this time around.
Only difference this time is the amount of media rubbish right from the start of his tenure and also new media (such as this blog) where opinions are expressed to a much wider audience.
Already people are doubting SJP even though it is a whole new set-up from the top down. Only players are set to change now and new faces brought in in the summer.
It will get better (imo it already is) so why not sit back and enjoy the ride.

Comment #14Cheers Punk Skunk, I’m getting a bit tired of the doubters who want a change already. Maybe it’s that easy on their psp manager games etc but not in real life.
I have no problem with people criticizing players and their performances but draw the line when they might say something like KK is clueless etc. Don’t forget that we have played Arsenal twice and manU who atm are amongst the best teams in the world.

Comment #15Kevin wouldn’t have signed for newcastle without talking about transfer funds IMO.
Hopefully Ashley will back him with alot of cash because its so expensive these days to buy the fantastic players.
Carr is shite

Comment #16I agree with mikeygd as we need to buy the best
players from other clubs and no more signing
the rejects from the big 4 clubs. If butt, smith
and geremi are not good enough for clubs like
Man Utd and Chelsea, they are definitely not
even good enough to wear our shirts.

…We’ve got to stop this: one loss, mistake, bad decision & it’s all shit, let’s get rid of everyone bollox…That’s the sort of behaviour that’s got us in this hole!..We, the fans, have to show a bit of faith & get behind the team…We can’t keep chopping & changing every 6 months or whatever, it’s killin’ the club!..
…I know everyone’s frustrated n’ all, but ho’way!..We’ve got KK, we’ve got to give him a fair crack…i’m not saying pretend everything’s sweet, but rome wasn’t built in a day & all that!..
…Keep the faith & Ho’way the Lads!..

Comment #18I thinks its only the real mugs like tom_tit, that constantly slag off the club & KK.
Its probably best just to ignore the mug. No true NUFC fan would berate the club at every opportunity.
Go else where with yer pathetic bitchin tommy_ boy/child/girl?

Comment #19The team are playing total crap at the minute but it doesn’t help when as soon as the opposition has the ball in our half that the crowd get tetchy, that just filters down onto the pitch and causes the players to be aware the fans are nervous in turn making the players nervous and maybe a little hesitant causing them to make mistakes which of course breeds a lack of confidence.
We just need to roar them on when we’re under the cosh and show them that we do indeed have faith in their abilities to turn games around.

Comment #21We will stay up, once Martins has a game under his belt the team will be better than it was at the start of the season, afterall it is the same team once he is back which won games, until Sam started messing players about and playing them in daft positions, which started the losing streak, except with the addition of Owen and Viduka. So it should be slightly better if anything.
I have no worries at the moment, I will only be concerned if we start playing people in Sam Allerdyce type positions again, get Nzogbia forward again up with Martins.
