The LMA (League Managers’ Association) has said that Kevin Keegan has not resigned his post as Newcastle United manager.
Kevin Keegan – hasn’t resigned – talking to Board – good
The Newcastle club, after utter confusion almost all day yesterday, surrounding the status of Kevin Keegan, who was thought to have resigned or been sacked, issued a statement saying that, for clarification purposes, they had not in fact sacked Keegan.
This morning the LMA has said Kevin has not quit his job, and the full statement on the LMA website, www.leaguemanagers.com, read as follows:
“Kevin Keegan has been in discussions with the LMA chief executive Richard Bevan.”
“Over the course of the next few days Kevin will be communicating with the club’s board to discuss a number of important issues.”
“Richard Bevan said: ‘Newcastle football club and its fans are massively important to Kevin and he has not resigned as manager of the club.”
“The LMA will keep supporters, media and other stakeholders within the game fully informed of developments’.”
Since the club has said he has not been sacked and now the LMA, supposedly on behalf of Kevin, has said he has not resigned, let’s see now, it would appear that Kevin is still manager of Newcastle United, and that’s really good news after what we were being told yesterday.
We think both sides stepped back from the brink, probably based on the complete outrage from the fans, and as we’ve said before, right now Kevin Keegan is Newcastle United.
And not only that, but they are communicating again after their apparent bust-up on the afternoon of the final day of the transfer market. And the fact that they said Newcastle fans are massively important to Kevin, would suggest he heard them yesterday, and their protests and cries for him not to leave.
We hope this can be cleared up quickly, and hopefully the club can learn from this display of silence that no communication, as we’ve said many times, just doesn’t work.
And more than that – it’s almost a slap in the face for the fans – who after all – are the customers of Newcastle United Football Club, and who have once again been left in the dark, and treated with disrespect, if not contempt.
We hope this mess can be cleared up today, but the LMA statement suggests it may take a few days.
We’d like to see a press conference between Kevin and Mike Ashley, just as soon as possible, although we doubt Ashley will be there, so it may be left again to Kevin to explain exactly what has been going on.
There’s one thing that is clear however, and that is it’s small wonder, with this type of circus, that we have become the laughing stock of football.
And that’s a real shame, because it’s our great club that has taken another blow to its image.
That’s the really sad thing.
Let’s not forget that after all the bickering and fighting that has seemingly gone on, the important thing in all of this is Newcastle United Football Club – the club that many of us love and have supported with pride and passion all our lives.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3After Milner’s sale, KK said we must not judge him til after the window closes. Ashley has hugely undermined KK’s ability to effectively manage our club.
WE will stick behind KK, he goes, there will be mayhem.

Comment #6Ed, there was absolutely no confusion what so ever yesterday.. One rag spouted it off as a rumour, and then most people just dived headlong into it without actually taking a step back and realising that NUFC had said absolutely nothing – Until they made the statement on nufc.com..
There is no wonder we have such a bad reputation as fans. All day yesterday it was ‘Ashley out’.. Yet nothing has happened, and I’ll repeat again, nothing came out of NUFC.
Maybe, just maybe, it’s a case of Keegan spitting his dummy and wanting to leave. Maybe it’s Keegan who has a disregard for the club if he just wants to bid willy nilly for players without so much of a thought to the future financial structure.
There’s always two sides to every story. We need to stop looking at Keegan through rose tinted specs and be more realistic as he has walked out of every club he’s managed – The England job also..

Comment #7i think after the fans display yesterday Ashley realised that he would need to sell the club if he did indeed let KK go! as the fans are the heart and soul of this club!

Comment #11Financial issue’s must be keeping KK here at the moment anyway as Ashley bailed out his soccer academies to get him here. He won’t risk that going tits up so needs to play carefully.
The only way out for KK is constructive dismissal which will drag the club through even more hell.

Comment #12@Ageordiedoonsooth – Absolutely no way man! We were just months away from imploding and doing a Leeds. Maybe even worse than that..
In fact, yeah.. Let’s get FFS back. Maybe he will bring Souness back to the club and in turn re-sign Luque for 38 million, on 150,000 a week. He’ll then sell Martins and bring in Kevin Davies, ’cause he likes to get stuck in’. Play Jonas in the ‘holding midfield role because that’s where I played’ – And then put Enrique up front and give him the arm band ’cause ‘he’s my type of player’..
With fans like us, who needs rivals?!?

stop spreading nonsense , months away from doing a leeds , that was scare tactics of the highest order , we had interest payments of 5 mill a year on the debt .
compare that to manures 70mill per year .

Comment #16Some quarters are speculating that the board tried to sell Barton to Portsmouth or Villa, and Owen to Spurs. All three of those clubs have already said they’ve never had discussions about taking Barton or Owen. So that’s nonsense.
I don’t think it’s about selling players, it’s about not buying the ones he asked for and bringing in 2 players he’d never heard of. Simple as.
As we all know KEEGAN MUST STAY and DENNIS WISE MUST GO.

KK can not walk because of the money and the board can not sack him because of the money and the fans.
4 things can happen
1)Either KK will have to roll over and do as he is told to Wise and Co.
2)KK will not roll over and Ashley will give KK power over Wise.
3)KK will not roll over and the conflict will effect the dressing room until something else happens.
4)They will reach a settlement figure in the next few days.
option 2 will not happen so we are screwed.

but we were in no way of doing a leeds , what we would have sturggled todo with fat git freddy was find money for investment in players in the comming seasons .
but again , a net spend of 2 mill this summer were no better of with the new fat man .

Comment #23The most annoying thing is that this happens at lots of clubs, with Managers having spats with their board, but you never hear about it. They just get back together and get on with their jobs.
But at Newcastle it’s hung out to dry for everyone to see.

Comment #27if kk really loves this club, he wont leave. enough of the “he wears his heart on his sleeve” BS. it’s an excuse. we all have to do things with the betterment of other people in our lives, or ourselves. he has a job and i expect him to fulfill it. i wash dishes ffs! im up to my chin in filthy, nasty, horrid matter. i hate my job, but i do it because i have myself in mind, and giving up just because something is too tough is completely unacceptable. im an ivy league grad here in the US, and i wash dishes because no work. KK represents a vast amount of fans from every corner of the globe. if he WALKS, good riddance. if SACKED, now that’s a different story

With that little t!t hanging around in the background waiting for his chance the sitaution just will not work, with Keegan or any manager.
Even if this dispute gets resolved it’s only a matter of time – he’s now shown that he cannot be trusted to represent the fans best interests or support the manager.
We should make make our feelings clear about the little f**ker starting next home game, hopefully he will get the message & crawl back under his stinking cockney barrow.
a feel a petition coming on…

Comment #31One thing of interest did happen yesterday.
“A close personal friend” of Keegan’s came on Sky Sports and said Keegan told the board to sell Milner when he heard the price because he was stunned someone would pay £12 million for him, and that it was ASHLEY who was against selling Milner. But KK said the price was too good to refuse.
He obviously thought getting a replacement wouldn’t be a problem.
But this bloke said Ashley was not happy that KK was getting rid of Milner and keeping someone like Barton.

Comment #34@hadrian – Neither of us know the full extent, but why would Ashley lie about clearing 80 million worth of debt – And if it was a lie, then why did FFS not pipe up (He’s good at that) and say so?
I find it hard to imagine that we were making a profit, and the wage bill over the last few years must’ve been heart stopping.
You can take Manure as an example, but the fact is, is that they make a huge amount of money, and now they are worth 3 times as much now as what the Glaziers paid.

Dear Fans,
I’m swiss and I love the toon, unfortunately I’m not a true born geordie and some of you might argue I cannot understand true geordism…that’s not true! I’m a fan for now 21 years! I know!
Anyway, 5 days ago I felt I had to write a letter to KK…it seems that he resigned and then just read that letter. There where words from my deepest heart in it (I’m not joking) and I think this together with the protests changed KKs mind. At least I hope he will now change the club for good, so that this had also something good in the end…

Comment #38i told you on saturday that owen was off to spurs and now the story is leaking that he was being sold behind kks back. i also said that kk would walk over it. on monday i mentioned this blog in the sun (which has hopefully added some revenue for Ed Harrison if he has taken advantage of the extra hits)
KK wont walk out after the show of support by the fans but ashley is trying to force him out. 2 players keegan was told would be on there way werent even in negotiations as ashley vetoed the deals while telling kk he was doing all he could to sign both players.
Ashley wants kk out but wants him to walk. wise doesnt think kk is up to the job and has told ashley his feelings. Poyet will not be your new manager though . Wise wants the job but 100% wont get it.
