Andrew Shuttleworth’s Social Media Mapping Starts Meme

ImageAndrew Shuttleworth is one of the hardest working guys in Social Networking I know here in Japan. As a resident for 10 years he has created a personal database of over 3,000 connections and spends almost EVERY evening hosting or attending a networking function in Tokyo. The guy is amazing. In fact, I was honoured last November when he showed up at my blognation Japan launch party and introduced himself to me for the first time in person. I didn’t need an introduction. I knew exactly who he was by that boyish smile and was thrilled to have him attend. I’m thrilled and grateful today to call him my friend.

Like me, Andrew would be known in most circles as “an early adopter”. He’s not satisfied with using tools which are popular and cool TODAY, he’s also looking for the most effective way of connecting with people TODAY AND TOMORROW. We frequently share notes over Skype on the latest tools and what has worked well and what hasn’t (I’ve made him my co-host and moderator of Tech Talk Japan Skype chat as well). Again, he’s amazing.

This evening (our time) Andrew made me aware ReadWriteWeb has picked up his article on Social Media Fatigue , an amazing attempt to try to “Mind Map” the chaos the rest of us try to keep organized only in our heads. His original article, and the ReadWriteWeb article has started a bit of a meme on the Internet. Why ARE we knocking ourselves out signing up for all these services? Is it really improving our lives and relationships or, as I’ve tweeted before , is Web 2.0 just a lot of work for nothing?

Have a read of the article and Digg. I’m hoping Techmeme will pick this one up too. [Update: Techmemed !] Andrew may be in for a bit of a ride. Congrats!
