By David Kaplan - Mon 04 Aug 2008 01:35 PM PST
Michael Silver, a former veteran exec with the The Tribune Company for two decades, is taking on the new post of executive director of the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium. The post is described as “advisory,” though Silver will also be responsible for the management and oversight of the agreements between the Newspaper Consortium’s members and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO). As the point of contact for the members, Silver is also expected to be the public face of the Newspaper Consortium. At Tribune, Silver, who was VP, corporate development there, played a role in handling Tribune’s initial investment in AOL (NYSE: TWX). Most recently, Silver was an independent consultant and worked on online listings applications for the entertainment products division of Tribune Media Services. The announcement of his hiring comes a few days after rival newspaper alliance quadrantOne tapped Andy Ellenthal as its permanent CEO. QuadrantOne is backed by Tribune, Gannett (NYSE: GCI), Hearst and NYTCo (NYSE: NYT). Release
