Last nights win is a good way to start the ’second’ half of the year a some what solid win with Gonzo closing things out. This is exactly the team we need to beat up on, as the schedule only gets tougher from here on out. 9 games against the NL East, this will (and I hate to say it) make or break the rest of the season.

Tail of the Tape

W-L Pythag RS RA OPS+ ERA+
Nationals 36-61 36-61 356 474 82 96
Braves 46-50 52-44 428 389 107 110

Pitching Match Up

IP ERA ERA+ K/9 BB/9 K/BB HR/9 OPS FIP G/FB P/PA
WAS John Lannan 106.0 3.40 125 5.01 2.97 1.69 1.02 .707 4.44 2.05 3.8
ATL Jair Jurrjens 111.0 3.00 136 6.57 3.32 1.98 0.65 .687 3.54 1.86 3.8

RD’s Take: Not as a big of an over match as last night, but Jurrjens is hot. He’s really been the big stand out this season with all that’s gone on with the rotation. I look for him to keep up a steady second half, and honestly I think he (at this point) needs to be brought up in ROY conversations.

TV: Peachtree TV, MLB.tv  Radio: WGST, XM Channel 187

What To Watch: Jair Jurrjens in the man to watch in this one. Also, these next few games including the Phillies later on the week will pretty much decide what the club does. Will they by buyers? Sellers? or will they stand pat with what they’ve got. This next week is going to be very telling for this underachieving ball club.
