Bike Trees: Preventing theft by parking bikes up in the air 13 May 2008

The above is Abhinav Dapke's novel solution to the problem of bike theft. Try taking off with a two-wheeler that's been hoisted 20ft in the air! (The design also saves space, allowing more bikes to be parked in a smaller area).

Though I applaud the vision and creativity of this idea (and especially like the thumb print recognition technology - pure fantasy applied to the practical sphere!), I can't help but think that these bike trees would only encourage vandalism perpetrated by laughing youth.

I like the Amsterdamn solution: have 25% more bikes than people. Or so the rumour goes anyway.
