...and switched to Absolut.  What are New Year's Resolutions anyway?  They're generally things we should be doing no matter what year it is, right? I feel like it is a set-up for failure.  There are so many jokes about New Year's Resolutions that if you fail, what's the big deal?  No one is REALLY expected to succeed past February 1. My husband went to the gym the other day and had to park 3 blocks away.  Come February 2nd, he will have his pick of front door parking spots.

One of my client's agents sent me an email stating how proud I should be of her because her New Year's Resolution is to put her contact database in an electronic, executable format so she can actually start using it to make money.  Hmmm.  Bad thing about this situation is that this agent has been in the business for ahhhhh, 7 years.  I wrote back simply  "Prove It."

Every new day we wake up we should state our resolutions.  It is called a "To Do List."  You can add those big ticket items like losing 40 lbs, reading 10 books, spending more time with family, staying away from bon bons etc. by incorporating one thing each day that relates to the changes you want and posting it for everyone to see.  Then at the end of the day check off what you accomplished.

For example.  If your New Year's Resolution is to lose 20 lbs then add 20 minutes of exercise to your daily to do's.  If it is to  read 10 books then put read 10 pages on your to do list.  If it is to create a contact database of 300 people then write add 5 people. If it is to stay away from bon bons then don't eat a bon bon that day. 

Why complicate things with lofty long term committments when you can wrap your arms around each day and feel true accomplishment when you put your head down on your pillow and hold your head high when friends ask how your resolutions are going?  Besides, if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing, there would be no need for New Year's Resolutions.
