Fringe

A promotional trailer for the new JJ Abrams‘ Fox series Fringe has hit the interwebs. The new series is set to premiere this fall on Tuesday Nights at 9:00pm after House. What is with Abrams obsession with airplane tragedies? This show has gotten a lot of criticism for being n X-Files knock off, but this new trailer shows something deeper than that. Check it out below and tell me what you think in the comments.

Update: We have added the full length trailer below found via AICN.

Original Teaser Trailer:

From J.J. Abrams (”Lost”), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the team behind “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Alias,” comes a new drama that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality. When an international flight lands at Boston’s Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham (newcomer Anna Torv) is called in to investigate. After her partner, Special Agent John Scott (Mark Valley, “Boston Legal”), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to DR. Walter Bishop (John Noble, “Lord of the Rings”), our generation’s Einstein. There’s only one catch: he’s been institutionalized for the last 20 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son Pter (Joshua Jackson, “Dawson’s Creek”) in to help. When Olivia’s investigation leads her to manipulative corporate executive Nina Sharp (Blair Brown, “Altered States”), our unlikely trio along with fellow FBI Agents Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick, “The Wire”), Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo, “Oz”) and Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) will discover that what happened on Flight 627 is only a small piece of a larger, more shocking truth.

I dunno…it seems interesting enough to me. I’d like to know what this Fringe Science is all about. His other t.v series have been great so I don’t know why this one would be any different. And what if it is an “X-Files knock-off”? New generation, new mysteries to solve. I say bring it on.

X-files with more computers, fast editing, mulder and scully kissing in the first few episodes, etc etc etc. Rip off. But what could be interesting is if the really explore a new arc of para-science stuff. but Xfiles pretty much ATE all of that…so JJ…surprise us!

  3. Gravatar

The hell? X-Files? Wow, do people still care about that show?

  4. Gravatar

Who cares if its a rip off or not? It looks interesting thats all I care about…
Its kind of wierd seeing Pacey again :D
It will take an episode or two to reprofile him

  5. Gravatar

I don’t know what to think because I didn’t understand what I just saw. Re-watching til I understand or my head explodes.

  6. Gravatar

It looks like it will be better as a movie instead of a tv show.

  7. Gravatar

If I didn’t know it was JJ Abrams I would not make an effort to tune in. The trailer is screaming “Convoluted!”

  8. Gravatar

The trailer was interesting enough though Joshua Jackson
looked like he might be trying too hard. I’ll give the show a
chance because I liked Alias and I still like Lost.

  9. Gravatar

Looks good I guess. This seems like a nice show to watch as an appetizer before the new season of Lost begins in January.

  10. Gravatar

Looks pretty awesome. Now, if only I could find time to actually keep up with a TV show on a regular basis…

  11. Gravatar

Yeah, it’s Abrams…So this show makes sense. Start off small with the plane and then as the Nut job father tells more and more secrets, the bigger and crazier this whole thing gets. Seems like it could fill that paranoid void left by X-Files on TV.
Now…If at the end of season…two or three it’s revealed that these Fringe Scientists had a hand in Dharma or Mittelos Labs or they work for Charles Widmore, then well…I’ll kill JJ.

  12. Gravatar

I was thinking of a Lost connection when that guy from both Lost and the Wire was on it. Maybe its the same character.

  13. Gravatar

Cracks me up. Abrhams is such a tv show hack.
This looks like a X-Files / CSI clone.

  14. Gravatar

I was all excited until i saw the FOX logo show up at the end. So this means im gonna wait it out until the end of the first season and then i MIGHT start watching on DVD, cause i don’t want to deal with what i went through with Firefly and Drive, where i get all into it and the FOX decides its time to cancel.

MOST ACCURATE LINE OF THE TRAILER:

Pacey: “I think you’ve got the wrong man.”

Yeah, he could say that again. Sorry, he’s just got no credibility being there. It won’t last more than a few episodes.

  16. Gravatar

I dunno…Im with the others. This looks like a mix of X-Files with an action twist. Like X-men 2 in terms of Wolvy is tested on and now he has his claws, well they do something to her so she has X abilities and is going to bring them to justice. Dosent mean the show isnt going to be good, but for sure the first half of the trailer, its pure X-Files

  17. Gravatar

Looks like a mixture of x-files, millenium, CSI and bunch of other shows.

    Transformers sucked.

  18. Gravatar

I never really had interestin in X-Files, except the alien storylines. And, although I love lost, and really liked Cloverfield, i’ll probably be skipping this one.

  19. Gravatar

airplane, science fiction… why would the creator of lost just copy his own show?

  20. Gravatar

Classic JJ Abrams. He will start a show as if there is something very well planned and then he will turn it to soap opera, bad guys vs. good guys, immortality, time travel, love triangles… Sorry I’ve seen that before…

After reading these comments I can’t help but get sick to my stomach.
Everyone’s acting as if this is just another TV show and talking about its entertainment worth.

Where are the real discussions about the subject matter within the show?
Genetic mutation or “fringe science” is very real and very disturbing. This is not a fantasy. You are living in this TV show.

Instead of writing a few paragraphs about this subject I simply would like to remind you all that TV is a brainwashing mechanism and to be weary of shows like this. A lot of times stuff of this nature is designed to desensitize and prepare you for the real deal. i.e. 24 (making torture acceptable and instilling fear of terrorists within you)

    Proceed with caution…

  22. Gravatar

I enjoyed X-Files.. and I love Lost, so this looks just like something id like to see. There is never enough good sci fi out there. Lets see what theyve got.

John 12:39 — The supposed content within this trailer has been with us since we big-brained apes have been unfortunate enough to be selfaware. Fear of the unknown leads to the creation of bloodthirsty gods. You know - like the one you no doubt subjugate youseft to Sunday mornings. This is entertainment for the more openminded. Not a doomsday prophecy for you baaing sheep. The only conspiracy theory worthy of subscription is that the closemindedness of you fundamentatlist wackos will SURELY result in the end of life on this planet as we know it. Well I say if it eradicates the likes of you doomsaying idiots, get on with it already. I’d happily be a “matyr” for that.

  24. Gravatar

Thanks for posting this interesting trailer.

I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!!

It is such a clasic JJ series. The mystery the suspence I can not wait to see the whole series, and the next ones,

and OMG Josua Jackson is STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Gravatar

This is a great example of talent from the writers to the actors. I think this show will do extremely well. I can’t wait to see more. It’s different and has a unique twist!
