Dolphins bulking up
Bill Parcells wasn't joking when he said the Dolphins will become a "BIG" football team.
The Dolphins began round three by continuing to beef up the defensive line, selecting Hampton defensive end Kendall Langford with the third round pick they swapped with Detroit. That selection (CLICK HERE FOR STORY) makes it three of the Dolphins first four draft picks trench players.
Langford, who I've told you the Dolphins have been high on since the Senior Bowl, has quick feet and a huge (6-5/294 pounds) frame. So what does that mean? He'll likely start out his career as defensive end but could grow, or be developed, into a nose tackle. Most of the 3-4 teams targeted him for the third or fourth round.
He only ended up at Hampton because he was a late NCAA qualifier, and he got on the NFL's radar by eating up Division I-AA competition. Most of the 3-4 teams targeted him for the third or fourth round.
"I feel like I'm amongst the best. I feel like I'm right along with those guys that went yesterday," said Langford, whose college defense allowed 251 yards per game last season. "I look forward to coming in and showing that I am."
Langford now gets added to a line that features Vonnie Holliday, Phillip Merling, Matt Roth, and Rodrique Wright at end, and Jason Ferguson, Randy Starks, and Paul Soliai at nose tackle. That should help the Dolphins get out of the NFL run stopping basement.
The trade with the Lions allowed the Dolphins to pick up an extra sixth round pick (bringing their total to three in that round). I'm guessing that's when they will address the vacancy at left guard, drafting in volume. As I previously said on this blog, left guard is probably the easiest position to fill in football.
Quality defensive linemen are hard to find.
Speaking of quality defensive linemen, we just heard Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio on ESPN admit that Jacksonville had discussions with the Dolphins about acquiring Jason Taylor.
"We took a good look at that," Del Rio said on ESPN. "It never really worked out where it fit for our teams. Obviously they feel good about the player and are going to keep him."
At least that's the line of thinking in the NFL, for now, unless some contender is willing to offer up a package for 2009 draft picks.
If nothing happens with Taylor today I'm confident he'll play nice with the Dolphins until they move him at the trading deadline during the season.
I'm sure the Dolphins are betting on a contender mortgaging the future to acquire one of the NFL's elite pass rushers. Maybe they'll force a couple of teams to play keep away by publicly shopping him to the Patriots, forcing others to sweeten their deals. But to get this done Taylor's going to need a strong start in 2008.
So, what's left to address with pick No. 115, the fourth rounder the Dolphins acquired from the Eagles for Lorenzo Booker? Obviously they have to get a guard, and MAYBE they reach for one here. But that wouldn't be wise because it likely means you are passing on a more talented player in this round. This draft proves they draft based on the value board, not need.
There's still a need at receiver, and some quality wide outs are still on the board. The Dolphins could address cornerback, linebacker (both outside and inside), and there's now a need at running back. Can the organization really bank on Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams being healthy for the 2008 season?
Do they need to pick up a little insurance, or can it wait till the sixth or seventh round....or maybe after the final round of training camp cuts.
Today's drafting needs to be about volume, but you can't ignore quality. That's why I say package some of those sixth round picks for a fifth rounder.
You know the routine. I'll be here all day. Keep hitting F5 to refresh and post your comments or questions here.
Deuces.

OMAR KELLY
HARVEY FIALKOV
Omar: In hindsight, was trading the 3rd pick to Detroit a mistake? They moved down a few spots, but it allowed the Rams to pick John Greco ahead of them. Was that a surprise or could they have not coveted him so much?
Posted by: Ant the Rant | April 27, 2008 at 09:55 AM
I think they gambled on that one and lost. It'll be interesting to see if that makes them jump on a left guard with the first pick in the fourth round.
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Omar,
The Patriots are stocking up on 3rd round picks. The Fins are stocking up on 6th round picks. Which do you thnk is a better strategy?
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Stav,
That's a no brainer.
There are three teams that draft better than everyone else.
The Giants, the Chargers and New England. Hands down the best.
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Defense, defense, defense....wins Super Bowls...we are building for the future, finally a talent base is beginning to develop.
Merling and Langford (strong athlete, raw but looks like JT)...and the slew of free agent signings...and the "message" is? JT will be ready (because he's a class act and should win BP over--probably the only one on the team that could do what he's done). Boy, will Jake Long learn to block speed rushers--what better way to develop your LT against a pro-bowler.
Disagreed with the QB selection at 57, but I can see the reasoning and the hope....so begrudgingly accept it and not disappointed.
Next....an offensive lineman.
What say you, Omar?
Sorry Omar, I was on the last nights thread of posts until I say you started a new one (so copied what I wrote and pasted in it on this one).
Posted by: Jim | April 27, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Omar, do you think that if Carl nicks is still there in the 4th rd we take him?
Posted by: Rick | April 27, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Omar,
Sorry my last question was just snarky, but this one isn't. Do we have anything available to get us another pick in the 4th? Matt Roth?
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 10:34 AM
NE just took the QB I wanted. I wish we'd taken an OL in Henne's spot and picked up this kid today.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 10:36 AM
And Manningham didn't drop nearly as far as some people were predicting.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 10:37 AM
Omar, what are the chances of the Fins taking Kroy Bierman with one the 6's as a olb? Also Owen Schmitt as some competition for Mauria?
Posted by: 713Phinfan | April 27, 2008 at 10:40 AM
With the Dolphins trade of Booker and their reluctance to take a WR is see them being pretty short on depth and weapons on offense (Ronnie and Ricky coming off season ending injuries).
Do you think they plan to address these needs with free agent pick-ups after the June cuts?
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 10:47 AM
Seems to me there is NO interest in Jason Taylor considering his age, salary ($8 million) and attitude (not long for the NFL). Also, he has was not very durable last year as he was often banged up.
Realistically do you think any team will be willing to give up mor than a Fourth Round Pick this year or next for JT?
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 10:50 AM
Eddie
JT is about to have a monster year for the Fins.
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Stav,
If the Fins keep JT, you might be right. I really believe JT has at least 2-3 more productive years in him if he really wants to keep playing football that long. I think with JT, teams aren't worried about his production as much as they're worried that he'll only be around for 1...maybe 2 years and they don't want a Rent-A-Player. Most teams are really shying away from that sort of signing the past few years, IMO.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 10:59 AM
I don' think so, Stav. What is his incentive to do so?
JT wants out as he wants to play for a contender and now the Dolphins are on record as wanting him out.
Seems like a messy situation and JT has shown under past regimes he can be a malcontent in the lockerroom when the Fins are not winning.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Mike McGlynn would look great in round 4 if he's still there. Otherwise - we need a running back!
Posted by: The Wolf in NC | April 27, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Eddie,
I think JT has the character and competitive spirit to want to prove to Parcells and anyone else around the league that he's still an elite player and people who MIGHT be questioning his ability will be eating their words. Frankly, I still think they trade him before the season starts, but we'll see.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:06 AM
I think his pride has been wounded by Parcells, the media and other teams. If Sparano lets him loose, remember Cam kept him in a cage, he will want to show everyone how wrong they are.
Jags take crappy Harvey over JT? Sociopath Allen worth a pack of great picks, but solid allPro JT is not? I'd be pissed if I were JT
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 11:09 AM
"Can the organization really bank on Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams being healthy for the 2008 season?"
The Phins are doing well in the draft...but now this is my biggest concern. Letting Jesse Chattman and Booker go prior to seeing how Brown and Williams recover I believe is a big gamble.I guess we will have to wait and see.
Posted by: Dan | April 27, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Do the Fins take Red Bryant at #115?
Posted by: 713Phinfan | April 27, 2008 at 11:13 AM
JT may have a great year, but he only has a year or two left of elite play. Unless we can put something together for next year, Jason is no longer a good fit. We won't be developed in time to get him a ring, and we can't use his skills to get to a title, either.
I'm glad we didn't budge on his value, but it really sucks that we couldn't sell his attrbibutes to other more competitive ball clubs. So much depth this year, and we could have taken advantage of it.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Randy, I am not questioning JT's ability to play at a high level.
I am questioning his level of motivation, playing for an organization which stated they are ready to part with him. He has shown is the past he lets his frustrations diminish his play on the field. It happened under Wannsted and Saban and who's to say it won't happen now?
He'll make $8 million this year and has aspirations outside of football. I don't see JT being motivated to go all out for the Miami Dolphins.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:13 AM
I liked the promise Booker was showing towards the end of the year last year. I was thinking he would be our Reggie Bush option, but my guess is the Trifecta thought someone in the 4th would be more valuable.
I wonder if they have their eyes on someone in particular.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Jason Taylor is on record as considering retirement and that's why no team is willing to take a chance on him, especially considering his salary. JT has publicly stated his lack of motivation and no team is willing to gamble on him as there is no guarantee he will play after 2008.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Eddie,
I agree with you on that point. I thought I posted that, but it might have been on the other blog. The only reason JT doesn't have a big year next year is if he plans on it being his last. But, I really don't think JT has it in him to tank a year just b/c he's going to retire. That's just me, and I could certainly be wrong.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Dolphins take Shawn Murphy OG Utah State by trading for the 4th round pick 110.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:22 AM
JT will play for the dolphins in 2008 and retire after this season. Trade rumors are smoke screen Del Rio said it, dolphins really want to keep him
Posted by: Armando | April 27, 2008 at 11:23 AM
One more reason for JT to have two-four more good years...he's just outside the HoF bubble. And Hollywood ain't easy...especially fro 6'6" black guys...what roles is he going to get? A couple of B-action flicks? The Rock spent his entire career acting and he's doing okay, but he was doing better at the WWE.
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 11:25 AM
Shawn Murphy (OT)
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 320
College: Utah State
Analysis :
Positives: Naturally strong with an even-proportioned frame, long arms, big hands and room to carry at least another 15 pounds of bulk without having the added weight impact his timed speed...Plays with good effort and desire and is the type that brings the same effort to practice as he does on game day...Sometimes trains too hard and is a bit of a perfectionist, but takes well to hard coaching and has the ability to take plays from the chalk board to the field with minimal reps...Builds his acceleration nicely on the move, but needs to keep his pads down for better effectiveness (struggles to adjust on the move when he is too tall in his stance)...Developed a better feel for using his hands as a senior, but still must shoot them with more force...Uses his frame well to lean into and shove the interior defenders when trying to widen the rush lane...Has valid foot quickness in his retreat and slide to protect the pocket (much better working in-line than at tackle)...Has become more aware of defensive coverage and developed good chip-blocking skills...Gets into his blocks quickly when he keeps his pad level down and can generate the sudden movement needed to gain advantage...Not overpowering, but has learned to roll his hips, punch and deliver a blow with quicker recoil than he showed as a junior...With his hand jolt, if he uses it consistently, he can get movement off the snap...Works with good effort to stay in front of the defender, showing the functional flexibility to gain inside position...Doesn't roll over people as a run blocker, but strikes with good leverage and pad level...Has good wall-off ability, working hard to follow through and finish off the drive (when he plays too high, he will lose leverage)...Moves well on the short pulls and is becoming more alert to locating and landing on targets when pulling on screens...Can turn it up better when working inside with contact on the move...Will whiff at times in the open field (when his balance is affected by a high stance), but showed better ability to stay up on his blocks as a senior, as he is developing a better feel for taking angles...Sets quickly with good knee bend and a wide base in pass protection, as he seems to have better adjustment skills to double moves at guard than he did at tackle (plays better in closed quarters than on an island)...Has better balance now in his slide than in 2006...Needs to use his hands better to control without holding too much, but he is starting to gain more confidence in his punch...When he plays flat-footed, he is better at adjusting with his lateral slide and change of direction agility.
Negatives: Has a soft midsection and also needs to add more muscle definition to his lower-body frame...Older than most prospects, as he will be 26 years old during the course of the 2008 season...Improved his upper-body strength, but must work on shooting his hands with more pop on contact...Tireless worker in the training room, but sometimes overdoes it...Has good foot speed, but when playing on the edge at tackle, he struggled to slide and maintain position vs. the speedier edge rushers and is much more effective playing in-line, as he lacks the loose hips to make wheel blocks or play out on an island at tackle...Has improved his balance on the move, but he will lose body control and narrow his base at times, as he tends to get too tall on his stance when having to pull or trap long distances...Good position blocker, but must keep his hands more active in attempts to lock on and control...Made marked improvement in recognizing twists and games as a senior, but as a junior, he was slow to pick up on stunts...Is still learning the technique of his position, but needs to improve his ability to recognize and combat counter moves (sometimes dips his outside shoulder and ducks his head on contact, letting the defender play off his block).
Compares To: JUSTIN SMILEY-Miami...Murphy seems to be a better fit at guard and struggles when isolated on the edge at tackle. He has good power, but at this stage, he prefers to beat his man with finesse. He has decent short-area quickness for pulls and traps. Despite his timed speed, he loses balance when he narrows his base going long distances. He still is quite raw around the edges and is an over-aged prospect. He has the tools to develop into a starter in a few years. He just needs patient coaching to help him unearth his talent and is a nice late second-day project.
Injury Report
1998: Suffered a right elbow fracture.
Posted by: 713Phinfan | April 27, 2008 at 11:27 AM
What possible motivation does J.T. have to play hard this year? The money is in the bank. He didn't play hard last year because he didn't support his coach. And if he is pissed at the Fins for not trading him, I think he will coast this year in an attempt to force a trade during the regular season, assuming, of course, that he doesn't get traded today.
Posted by: Ken in San Diego | April 27, 2008 at 11:28 AM
Stav, Whether or not JT can make it in Hollywood, it doesn't seem that his heart is in it (Football). And in the NFL when the heart goes, so does the player.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:31 AM
ESPN and online coverage sucks right not. No one is keeping up with the trades as in what teams are giving up, etc... the Dolphins obviously swapped picks with Chicago but what else did they trade to do so?
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:32 AM
I just think you guys are forgetting the DECADE of great effort Jason has given this team and it's fans...us. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I see him tank it with my own eyes. I don't think he did that last year. I think his effort wasn't where it needed to be at times, but he was still one of our better players last year...no matter how bad the team was. He wasn't the only player going against the coaching staff last year. Frankly, it sounds like he was one of many, so what does that have to do with anything?
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM
What did we give to Chicago in order to swap picks in the fourth?
I read somewhere where Shawn Murphy played with mean streak and impressed scouts at the E-W SHrine Game.
Posted by: Paul in DC | April 27, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Did they really have to trade up to get Shawn Murphey? There were other better Guards on the board, maybe Murphey was better for our taste but if we would have taken Greco instead of trading for a blankin 6th round pick then we could have picked up somebody with better value IMO. The only move I really didn't like so far.
Posted by: Sean | April 27, 2008 at 11:37 AM
I too am interested in what the dolphins gave up to move up in round 4 to get Murphy...Omar any insight?
Posted by: Terry | April 27, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Story should be up on Shawn Murphy, the son of Dale Murphy in a minute.
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 11:40 AM
This in from ESPN:
Dolphins trade JT for Keyshawn Johnson.
Kyle Wright bound for Aqua and Orange: to challenge for practice squad QB.
Posted by: helium | April 27, 2008 at 11:41 AM
man i love how fast the draft goes now.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Dolphins swapped 4th round picks with Chicago and traded their 7th round pick (first pick of round) to Select Shawn Murphy. Murphy seems to be a solid fit. He'll be 26 years old this year but appears to be big and able to play several OL positioins. He'll be a Guard for the Dolphins and could play wither side and also will be able to switch to OT if needed due to injury, etc...
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Hey I'm not Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland or even Matt Millen, but does anyone else thin we are overreaching so far on day 2? Did anyone else want Kendall in the 3rd or Murphy in the 4th? Doesn't seem likely.
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Phinss gave up first pick, seventh rd. in addition to the fourth.
Posted by: 713Phinfan | April 27, 2008 at 11:45 AM
Armando S (who's on fire btw) said 206 for Murphy
Posted by: Stav | April 27, 2008 at 11:45 AM
Stav,
I don't think Langford would have been available later but I do think Murphey would have though there is a chance he could have been gone by the time we pick in the sixth.
Posted by: Sean | April 27, 2008 at 11:46 AM
No I don't think the Dolphins are reaching on Day 2 as they got a DL (Langford) and an OL (Murphy) whom fit their system. Both picks are versatile and can play at several positions.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Everyone says Sparano is a good OL coach, so I'm willing to buy into who he chooses...that is if he was involved in the choice, which I assume he is. I assume he sees potential in this kid and likes his intelligence and maturity at age 25. I'm just guessing here.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:48 AM
It is exciting Dolphins has a very clear plan now, all picks are big physical versatile athletes. I don`t think they have reach any of them, All picks has the tools to be succesful and hel this team but you never know, we'll see how tough are they mentally once training camp begins.
Posted by: Armando | April 27, 2008 at 11:51 AM
we are overreaching on day two which is the opposite of day 1--murphy is too much of a developmental project --we nned a line starter out of our #4 pick. We should have taken greco in the 3rd and langford in the 4th.
Posted by: Ed | April 27, 2008 at 11:52 AM
The Dolphins have no picks in round 5 and Langford would not be there in the 6th round and may have been off the board by pick 110 in the fourth as New England was looking at him. The knock on Langford was the level of competition he played against at Hampton (where he was dominant). However, he could had interest from VA Tech and VA but could not attend those schools due to poor test scores.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:53 AM
thank you lord tuna so far it's an A plus draft maybe just the best in the nfl!
Posted by: bryan in ohio | April 27, 2008 at 11:53 AM
we better get back into the late 4th or early 5th and get another o-lineman. Give up a higher pick leke a 3rd next year--we can recoup taht pick between now and next year.
Posted by: ed | April 27, 2008 at 11:54 AM
Langford should be gone at 4th and Murphy has the tools to be more than a project. Isn`t it the guard position the easiest to fill?
Posted by: Armando | April 27, 2008 at 11:55 AM
Ed, no one has mentioned Murphy as a project. In fact he appears to be the opposite as he can play several positions and has the size, intelligence and attitude to start now. NFL.com has him labled as a solid pick at 110.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:55 AM
If you go by where these players have been rated by most folks then the Fins are definitely reaching. But, at least they're not reaching in round one. I like Langford, but I do think he was picked a bit high. I would assume the Fins got wind that some other team was going to get him and made a move. Murphy...again, i'll trust that Sparano can make him into a good player.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Agreed Armando. The Dolphins added big, athletic, versatile lineman to units that lacked depth.
Langford can play DE or NT as he has the frame to bulk up. Murphy played OT but is suited to play OG in the NFL and he is big, intelligent and athletic.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Eddie,
the guy has only played OG for like two years. And, I am pretty sure I read a review that basically said he would need at least a couple years to be turned into a productive pro. Isn't that what a project is? I am just going on what I'm reading here. I have no knowledge of this kid myself.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 11:59 AM
I think they got Murphy to buddy up with Beck - they can sit together and trade missionary tales (and what it's like to be an older rookie). Just like they got Henne to baby-sit Jake Long so that he doesn't go all S. Beach on us
Posted by: helium | April 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM
It seems the Dolphins are sticking to their plan by addressing needs when they can. Bill Parcells' philosophy is to build from the trenches on up. The Dolphins have been abissmial along the OL and were depleted along the DL by the end of 2007. Langford and Murphy would not have been around by time the Dolphins would have picked again and they got 2 players with potential to start for them this year. Had they chosen other positions this would not have been so.
I am sure they will address back-up RB, CB and WR via free agency after the June cuts.
Posted by: Eddie | April 27, 2008 at 12:04 PM
I think Murphy would have been around later. Langford may not have been. I like Langford, and I don't think he was a huge reach....just a little one.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 12:08 PM
NFL.com Shawn Murphy Pick 110, Fourth Round
Pick Analysis: The Dolphins traded up to get Murphy. This is a good, solid pick at this point in the draft. He's versatile on the offensive line. Murphy is mature and has great size. In Miami, they are going to want to pound the ball and he is not only strong but tough, smart and can change direction. He could be in the league a long time.

I think both players were a reach according to the scouting reports. Our management team makes the big bucks to make these kind of decisions though, so I'll optimistically wait to see the playes' performances.
My initial impression, I have to admit, was negative. Yesterday, we were picking players that were slated to be selected earlier than when we picked them, but today is just the opposite. Both feel like kind of a reach, especially considering we jumped up in the 4th round to pick Shawn.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Btw,
Don't you guys think Chad Henne looks just like Quagmeyer from Family Guy? (Ha)
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Krillian,
I agree with you, but they seem to be close enough reaches that I'm willing to assume they know what they're doing. I'm a believer in that all you're drafting in the later rounds are athletes who you think you can mold into the position and type of player you want them to be and not so much on where they're rated b/c you're range of difficulty on hitting increases one way or another the further down the draft you go. Why not take the player ranked #10 over #8 if you really think #10 is a better fit for you? does it really matter THAT much?
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 12:37 PM
The Dolphins have three picks in the sixth round, and one pick in the seventh?
What do they do, where do they go?
I say that's the time to find a linebacker, another offensive guard, a receiver, and a running back.

gigetty...gigetty...gigetty
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I think the Murphy pick is good. Big kid who has quick feet, probably will end up startimg at RG seeing how pathetic our line has been for years now. I like all the picks so far. We need lineman on both sides and we have some now. Also I would like to see a wr picked in the sixth round. We need depth there. I like the kid from Hawaii, Bess. Saw them play a few times this year and the guy catches everything and would be nice in the slot. Small and didn't run the fastest 40 but he plays fast.
Remember we can't fix all the problems in this one draft. Next year with another solid draft we should be competing for a playoff spot in 2010. Now if one of these qb's can step up we should be ok. Also I hope we can pick up Ikeguonu from Wisconsin. Dude was fast as hell and good before he got hurt. If we can add those two guys this draft I would be totally stoked and give us an A grade overall.

Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:45 PM
Lets hope GB has a miserable yr,and pks high in rnd 2 next yr.!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:47 PM
GB didn't have 137!
Not sure that was the "real" Omar.
Posted by: Finsfan in CT | April 27, 2008 at 12:48 PM
If it's true,I'll be SAD until GB's 09 2nd!!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:48 PM
Wow, I wonder if JT is happy to be going to Green Bay. It seems like this may not have been the Fins...or JT's first choice as far as trades go. It looks more like a "get me out of this town/team" move.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 12:48 PM
I second that Krill
Posted by: Sean | April 27, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Jt isnt being traded, give it a rest you dumbass fans. Am I the only Dolphins fan left he thinks Jt is still pro bowl level player?
Posted by: Beast | April 27, 2008 at 12:50 PM
With Miami trading L Booker and Dallas drafting 2 RB's, does anyone get a sense that a trade for Marion Barber could be in the works? With Parcells emphasis on the run and one running back who can't stay healthy, and another who can't stay clean, he's got to be planning somehting.
Posted by: Silence Dogood | April 27, 2008 at 12:50 PM
finfan ct,if thats true thats one ahole neasterner that needs to get a life!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:51 PM
correction its almost complete for GB 5th rounder and a 2 next year
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Guess your right finfanct, just looked @ the tracker, and 137 has already been traded to Minn..WHEWWW!What a JACHAZZZZZZZZ!!!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:55 PM
13kvfins,
If you are watching the draft, you KNOW that report was not correct. The 137 pick was QB Booty to Minnesota!
"omar" predicted 137 was GB pick and a 2nd rounder.
Posted by: Finsfan in CT | April 27, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Omar,is that you or not,if not,BLOCK that f er thats impersonating your GREATNESS!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Beast,
JT is a GREAT player. An elite player still playing at championship level. The Phins, however, are rebuilding and by the time we finally do develop into championship form JT will more than likely be retired. It's important to try and get value for him THIS year, while also allowing him a chance to play for a contender.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 12:58 PM
i can deal with that.heres to gb sucking next year
Posted by: finsrule | April 27, 2008 at 12:59 PM
omar who r we going to take at 150
Posted by: gofins | April 27, 2008 at 01:00 PM
Dolphins still need to him to sell tickets and and be a veteran on the team, if hes gone whos the veteran? Jay Feely? Ferrguson? no.
Posted by: Beast | April 27, 2008 at 01:01 PM
Orlando Scandrick, whom Kiper had going in the second round just went off the board in the fifth round.
Posted by: Sean | April 27, 2008 at 01:02 PM
finfan ct,thanks my tv programmed itself to the nascar race,so I loss touch for a moment..GB does have a pk @ 150,but I think we may have a MOLE!!Bet,I could guess his real name(roger/grntmkook) azzzzzwhipe!!!!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:03 PM
hey omar is carl nicks still available if so should we trade up for him
Posted by: finsfan4life | April 27, 2008 at 01:03 PM
NICKS is still there...
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:07 PM
give 2 sixes to move up n get nicks, lets go bp
Posted by: fins | April 27, 2008 at 01:09 PM
That wasn't me on the JT crap. I'm begin the process of blocking that dude.
I'm bored!
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Thanks Trent Green.
Kansas City is a gangster of the NFL.
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 01:10 PM
Carl Nicks is available...ssssshhhhh. Lot of picks left, but I'm hopeful he continues to slide. Maybe we do make a move so we can add depth/insurance/competition to the tackle position.
Beast,
I agree with that logic. But I also want our veteran to actually want to be here. He's made it known in a very professional manner that he really doesn't want to be here. Remember "Karate Kid"? "You Karate 'yes', or you Karate 'no'. You Karate 'guess so'- Crush! Just like grape!" (Ha)
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 01:11 PM
what # is our next pick
Posted by: fins | April 27, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Dolphin have .....
176, 195 and 204 in the sixth...
and 245 in the seventh
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 01:15 PM
Omar,it was suggested a few times of how we can avoid such CRAP from undercover rival fans !! Please take the necessary procedures,so that we can identify your's from the ones that do most of their writing on portapotty walls!!!!!THANKS!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:16 PM
i second 13kvfins....omar. I've always thought there should be a way that you guys could identify yourselves here and not have impostorism be an issue.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 01:18 PM
omar,
do you really think Parcells will pick up a WR or is it more that there is value in that position in the draft still?
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 01:19 PM
13kvfins,
What do you think so far? You havin' a good day?
Posted by: Sean | April 27, 2008 at 01:20 PM
KRILL,those character issues are kickin his buttt, and I think we would have took him if not for that..But maybe in the 6th he'd be worth the risk, but suddenly OL isn't our greatest weakness any longer..I want a WR already!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:20 PM
Sean, whats up budd?? Yea man, good day,and you know I'm NOT one to question BP!!I though MURPHY was a slight reach, but I'm pretty sure that I haven't put in the time that the brass has!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:24 PM
Speaking of the real "omar", where the heck has he gone?
Posted by: Finsfan in CT | April 27, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Agreed 13kv,
But Nicks is becoming a ridiculous steal the more he continues to slide. I had him slated around late 2nd round, and I don't think attending a party warrants a 4 round drop.
There's also some talent still available at WR for a 3rd/4th option, but I really like Nicks b/c of his ability as a potential full time starter. Let's beef up that line and make it a strength, full of depth.
Sure wish we had taken Dan Connor at 64...man, that would've been a steal. Guess they felt comfortable with ILB after Friday night's trade.
Btw...Early Doucet was also available at 64.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Yea KRILL,I've liked NICKS from the getgo,@ 2b or 3,and I'd STILL like to steal him..It was hard not to want the 1st pkd WR in the 2nd,and the only reason I'm not unhappy about it is b/c we got someone I figured we'd have to trade up for(MERLING)!! Would have liked to traded down a few times more along the way to get a 5th,OHHHWELLLL!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Round 6, Pick 10 (176) (From Lions) As this is posted this is what we still have:
Round 6, Pick 29 (195) (From Cowboys)
Round 6, Pick 38 (204) (Compensatory selection)
Round 7, Pick 1 (208)
Round 7, Pick 38 (245) (Compensatory selection)
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 01:34 PM
Doh...I meant 66.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 01:34 PM
KRILL,I've liked Doucett for a few yrs,but apparently the brass has other plans @ WR,(NO IDEA WHAT THEY MIGHT BE)!! NEED @least a 2 or 3,from my pt of view....
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:37 PM
working on stoppin the imposters, JT will be traded before the trade deadline, and then we might get a 1 from a desperate team with an injury.
Posted by: omar | April 27, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Yeah 13kv,
Merling was a STEAL. I hadn't even really studied up on him b/c I was certain he'd gone by the middle of the first round. He's a perfect 3-4 DE addition, and likewise with Langford.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Jeremy,we gave 208 to chi,to move up a few to get MURPHY,I believe Murphy was the pk @ the time...
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:42 PM
Plus, his name always reminds me of Merlin Olsen who was one of my favorite players. is it possible i've taken one too many blows to the head?
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Ah thanks 13kvfins...just got home and they have obviously not updated the draft tracker...lol
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 01:45 PM

Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 01:47 PM
J,I know you hate espn, but their tracker is updated w'every pk instantly..
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:48 PM
WR Paul Hubbards still around 6-3,221..Bowman also 6-3,223...Anyone have their 40 times???
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:54 PM
Bowman 4.48
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 01:55 PM
Jets just took Erik Ainge. I think that's a great pick for the 5th round. I'm happy with Henne at 57, but I think this is the smarter/more valuable pick for a qb. What the heck do I know, though?
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 02:01 PM
OL NICKS,BARTON,E Young,WR HUBBARD,BOWMAN,DJ HALL,DB J BARNETT,IKEGWUONO,LB GOFF,Gatewood,Guyton,Moffitt,Henderson,C JOHNSON,D Roberts....

No wonder SEAT pkd him!!DAMMIT!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Paul Hubbard had 4.46 40 in the combine and a 4.38(!!!) on his pro day. Not bad at all. 6'4", 215. Big guy. Tremendous athlete. Raw, but runs crisp routes. I like his upside a lot.
Another Wisconsin receiver! Sweet. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my Chambers jersey now.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 02:13 PM
Hubbard
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38.

11 more pks till us!!!!PLEASE get one of my above!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:16 PM
I've been finding myself agreeing with Kiper a lot today. It makes me feel very sick to my stomach. I'm also agreeing with the woman in the roundtable discussion on almost every point. Maybe my credibility is hitting the crapper! (Ha)
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 02:16 PM
YESSSSS,HUBBARD!!!! Thanx Jeremy!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:17 PM
Krillian,
We may have to pull your man card...LOL
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:17 PM
LB/DE hybrid sorta player for the next pick anyone?
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:18 PM
You are welcome I could have got it to you sooner but I am not fully focused on the blog!
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:18 PM
KRILL,I Can't stand analyists that never played the game!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:19 PM
We definitely need a WR...
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:20 PM
Randy,HUBBARD or hybrid OLB C JOHNSON is who I'd like!! Or any WR or LB that BP thinks fits!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:20 PM
13kvfins,
most people posting around here have never played the game above high school, but everyone here thinks they're an expert and knows better than anyone else. What makes Mel Kiper any different? He's just a well-informed rube.*L*
and Krill.....stop agreeing with the chicks. that's only allowed if it leads to direct physical contact in your favor...pick a team, buddy.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:22 PM
Thanx KRILL on HUBBARD,I want him BADDDD!! Have him ranked in the 5th..PLEASE!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:23 PM
randy,
I do not know of anyone that is a regular poster here that thinks they are an expert other than judge dredd on QBs...LMAO
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:24 PM
Randy,I was referring to the chick!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:24 PM
and NOT anyone here!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Yeah 13KV,
Normally Kiper drives me insane. But I have to admit that ESPN's coverage has been destroying NFL Network this weekend. Jaws is the man! One of the best analysts out there.
Anyway, that was my point. I agree with Kiper and the girl. My man card is gone, and I'm an idiot.(ha)
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 02:25 PM
LOL KRILL!!!! KIPER knows his stuff though,IMO,even if he never played..
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:28 PM
YEA espn is stomping nfl network!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:29 PM
OHKAY,need to locate my AQUA highlighter!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Jeremy,
I assume the sarcasm was dripping from your keyboard b/c I read these blogs for about 2 years before I ever posted here, and I can say, unequivocally, that pretty much everyone here thinks they're opinion...about anything...is the right one.*L*
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:31 PM
J,wheres my AQUA highlighter??
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:33 PM
There was no sarcasm. I myself have never claimed to be an expert. I do however, know that I am a well informed fan that leads to my opinion you will never find any post from me suggesting/implying that I am an expert. And the few I actually think are also well informed do not come off that way to me. Maybe you just read too much into everyone's opinion?
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:34 PM
13kvfins,
Check in between the cushions on the couch.
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:35 PM
I love the Parmale pick! How was that guy still on the board?
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:37 PM
omar,
Parcells just can't go more than two picks without going LB.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:37 PM
Jalen Parmele...very intriguing pick.
Posted by: Krillian | April 27, 2008 at 02:39 PM
THANKS J,LOL!! My gyz are still there, and it's our pk,NEVERMIND must of traded it to N O...
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:41 PM
Jeremy,
I think you're reading too much into my posts. I'm simply saying everyone seems to believe in what they're saying. I, personally, have no problem with that at all. I don't say it in an effort to degrade you guys. I come to these pages to get a feel for how someone other than reporters see things and learn what i can. i don't get into it for much else. Sorry for the confusion.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:43 PM
My BADDD,doing tooo much @ once..We got Parmalee,I think!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 02:43 PM
We did take Parmele...kind of a Marion Barber-ish kind of runner...I wonder if we would have taken Barbers little bro had he still been there?
Randy,
What good would it do to have an opinion if you did not believe in it? I am just a literal kind of man so I would say I did not read too much into your post I just read it and conveyed back the words you posted...lol
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:47 PM
it looks like a decent pick to me. more competition at a spot that needs it and a possible good special teamer.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:48 PM
Yeah he will absolutely be on ST until he develops some more. They will have to work with him on his hands. But with our new found size on the line he will be a great RB between the tackles when he gets his opportunity.
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:50 PM
sorta looks like a guy who was the highest rated at his position that was left on the board that sorta fit an area we could use another player.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 02:51 PM
First guy we took under 6'..he is our 2008 hobbit!
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:51 PM
I would be surprised if we do not address the WR position with one of the next two picks.
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 02:52 PM
Jeremy,
I ammended saying expert to saying guys believe in what they say...obviously that means they think they're right b/c that's a given if you believe what you're saying. Does believing what you say MAKE you right? of course it doesn't. But, nonetheless, we all have the right to our beliefs/opinions regardless of their veracity. I evaluate people for a living, and i learned a long time ago that first impressions can be dead-on...or completely wrong. That's the draft...your odds are probably better in Vegas. hey, that's not a bad idea...maybe i'll go to Vegas for the draft next year.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:01 PM
randy,
OK...then I concede since you are an expert at evaluating people from words typed on a screen....LMAO
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 03:03 PM
Randy, one of our local Fl radio gyz said on the air that he thinks what we do here is a joke, and that he was going to infiltrate as randy to see what he could do to make us feel less about ourselves..I'm unfazed b/c,I LOVE the DOLPHINS/football,and not even GOD could deter me from that...But,@ 1st it seemed you were trying to belittle some of us(lately,in my eyes you seem somewhat sincere),and I was just wondering if it was a coincidence that your named randy,or are you D Lebetard FIN HATER?? If you are,I think your radio show SUCKS for TRUE DOLPHIN FANS!IF not, then Randy,I'M SORRY!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 03:05 PM
13kvfins,
Are you being serious b/c I find it hard to believe some guy on the radio said that. If it is true...then no...I am not that guy. I am a 42 year old, lazy, fat, white guy living in Minnesota who has been a Dolphins fan for 25 years b/c I grew up in Iowa without a professional football team and had to find one. Again, if you're being serious, I am a real person, and i have not been trying to belittle anyone here.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:09 PM
13kvfins
ROFLMAO
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 03:10 PM
jeremy,
again, i never claimed to be an expert at anything. if i did, i was either being sarcastic or misspoke. I'm no more an expert around here than anyone else...just a fan with an opinion.
and if all you guys are screwing with me with this radio guy calling himself randy crap you need to get lives.*L*
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:11 PM
i only wish i was lebetard....just for the cash he must rake in...otherwise, i'm not a big fan.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:13 PM
LOL,thats cool w'me Randy!!Your alright w'me if you love the DOLPHINS!!!! And Yes,that gyz an idiot, his entire show is about belitteling the DOLPHINS,and their fans!!EVERYTHING he does is some sort of slap in the FINS face!! JT refused to go on his show b/c of it!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 03:15 PM
13kvfins,
Did you notice that Jake already had the HOF jacket on when he walked the stage yesterday? Smart kid...lol
Posted by: Jeremy | April 27, 2008 at 03:15 PM
Randy,I'm dead serious!!But I'm convinced your not he,he'd of copped to it..
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 03:17 PM
13kvfins,
Well, that guy's a dumba$$ then, and i am not him.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:19 PM
More OL...always a good pick in my mind.
Posted by: randy | April 27, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Jeremy went to the newer post...what a chump.
Posted by: Bill Parcells | April 27, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Yea J,I hope it wasn't C Johnsons, who's about to have to burn his!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 03:23 PM
DAAAMMMMMIIIIITTTTTT,just missed on Hubbard!!!!
Posted by: 13kvfins | April 27, 2008 at 03:25 PM
Did Sparano have any input or did he just sit in the corner of the table. Signning Gore (OT) from Boise St. was awesome! I dont know about Thomas for UCONN. They took two RB in Parmele (who I like) and Lex Hilliard (?), but for crying outloud, you could have had Justin Forsett!!!!
Posted by: danny | April 27, 2008 at 09:51 PM
