Live Dolphins Q&A at noon today

Do you have a question about the Dolphins roster, the draft, or the Trifecta's management style you need addressed?

If so, post it here and I'll try my best to address it on a question and answer session I'll be starting around 11:30 a.m. today.

I generally prefer to hang with the people everyday, all day, but the higher ups have encouraged me to try a live Dolphins blog to see how receptive you guys and gals are to a formal Q&A setting.

Hit me with anything you have in the comments section here and I'll do my best to uncover the answer, or share my best opinion in the comments section for an hour.

See you soon.

Deuces.

And for all you gamers out there, I've been wondering if I should buy a XBox 360, or a Playstation 3?

It's time for me to step it up and I need some advise.

Yesterday I read an article saying there's a NFL draft advisory council (or a similar name) that college players can ask for an estimate of what they would be drafted, and then use this advice to decide if they want to declare for the draft. According to this article they told Davone Bess he would be a 3rd round pick, of course Miami picked him up as an undrafted free agent. So, my question is: where did Miami have Bess on their board?

Go with the 360 bro. Xbox Live alone makes it well worth it. Not to mention you will have a lot of games that offer features that you won't get on the PS3. Graphics wise, they are pretty equal. Per the game developers, they like developing games for the 360 more than the PS3. Don't get me wrong, I "use" to be a Playstation guy...so was my son. But now we both have 360's and wouldn't go back.
In the end, it's going to come down to preferences. You will have fan boys for both systems...

Omar,
It depends on what you'll use the game system for: if just for games at home then Playstation 3, if you like online play and multi-media applications then I say xbox 360.
Playstation 3 is a little ahead of its time......... game companies don't really have the technology to fully use the Playstation's capabilities, so in the long run the Playstation 3 will eventually overtake and pass the Xbox 360................... oh yeah, if you don't have a bluray player then you might want to consider the playstation3, it plays bluray's.

I have the PS3 and I love it...the graphics for the games are sick, but also, you get the blu-ray player out of it too...if you're into movies AND games then PS3 is the choice. I promise, you've never seen anything like a a blu-ray movie.

Omar,
As far as questions go:
I'm interested to know where Tab Perry fits in all of this at the WR position.
And I also want to know if the Trifecta really consider Lehan to be an answer at one of the three CB positions.

Omar,
When I get fired for lack of productivity at work I am blaming you...
My question is how do you see the D-Line shaping up as far as who starts and who makes the 53 man roster? Do you see Roth and Holliday making the team come September with the additions of Merling & Langford?

Good advice from the bloggers about 360 vs. PS3...

It's fairly basic though:

Get the XBOX 360 for games(Halo, Madden), and the XBOX Live service. It makes playing online with tha homies a thing of beauty.

Get the PS3 for the BluRay player only(if you don't already have a BluRay.) The games and game play are just not as good. Add to that there aren't as many games, nor will there ever be.

Who will be the Dolphins linebackers ?

Many thanks

WD

Each system has its advantages:

First Post:
PlayStation 3:
- Doubles as an excellent Blu-Ray player. And since it is also a computer will have no problem updating to newer Blu-Ray version specs as they come to support new features.

Second Post:XBOX 360:
- Better online game play
- Also can be used as a media center extender. This means if you have a Windows Media Center PC you can play all the music and movies stored on your PC through the XBOX. Can have PC in one room, then hook up XBOX 360 to your stereo and TV and can play all your stored music and movies through your stereo system. Great for DJ'ing your parties at home. This is also really easy to setup with no technical expertise.

Omar my man, go with the Xbox 360, you won't be disappointed. As for the Q&A, I'm interested to know who you think will be the starting QB on opening day. Will he be the same guy in the last game (barring injury)?

There is a little voice in the back of my head that is telling me the Dolphins and Jags will make a trade for Taylor still. I think the Dolphins would/should be happy if they gave the Jags Taylor for the Jags 2nd pick(Quetin Groves), and their 5th round pick(Trae Williams). Groves is a guy that they seemed to want. You would get the guy to fill the loss of Taylor, plus pick up a corner that could work out very well for us.
What do you think?

Hi Omar, I am a little late with this, but here goes. I am just curious, why do you and all of your collegues continue to say "The Trifecta" is unhappy with Jason Taylor. I read every article and blog all of you write, and my understanding is that you really don't know what they think of Taylor's hiatus. Basically because non of them talk.

Do you have some inside info from people you can't quote?

It seems like it all made up to make it looks like there some kind of rift between the fish and Taylor.

Omar,

I want to know what communication if any has taken place between Jason Taylor and Miami Dolphins since the draft and why Jason Taylor does not seem to be on the same page as the front office and if they feel he is considere an important part of the leadership team since he has been one of the veteran leaders of the team for such a long time.

As for X-Box 360 vs. PS3, I say PS3 if you must choose 1 since it also plays Blue-Ray DVDs. However, if you can get both.

Omar def. go with the Xbox 360. Then you can game with all of us in the live world. Excellent multi-player games such as Halo3 and Call of Duty 4 are joys PS3 can't touch. Also, playing the new Madden or NCAA game and trash talking is a thing of beauty. I have both systems, but I prefer Xbox360. I tend to think of PS3 as more of an RPG vide game system/ Movie player. F.Y.I. for any gamers out there my xbox live tag is specialgrub.

Rick,

If the Jags were willing to part with Groves, I would be a little concerned about why they would want to part with him so quickly. Would you?

Secondly, I don't see the Jags budging unless Groves and Hardy look absolutely terrible in camp or they end up with an ineffective pass rush the first part of the season. Do you think both or either one of these scenarios is possible? I think the latter.

Questions: If J.T. returns, considering the run stoppers we gathered for the front 7. With Crowder and Torber/Ayodole? on the middle couldn't this be one of the most dangerous fronts in football? I think J.T. could have his best season yet.

LE: Holliday
NT: Ferguson/Starks
RE: Merling/Roth
Jack: JT
ILB: Ayodole
ILB Crowder
OLB: Porter

I think Porter is better suited for the OLB in the 3-4 as well. Both J.T. and Porter were poorly utilized last year. If the team picks up the defense early and J.T. isn't a sore spot we have an excellent front 7. That alone should improve our DB play.

Dolphindude,

I agree if Jason Taylor wants to play football for the Miami Dolphins it could be one of the best fronts the Dolphins have hade in decades. However, the key word is "if".

In my opinion Jason Taylor has quit on the Miami Dolphins when it comes to playing football. He's self promoting himself and the Miami Dolphins to show other teams what a spokesman and promoter he can be. But when it comes to being a leader and player for the Miami Dolphins I think JT's days are over.

Eddie,
I wouldn't think something is wrong with Groves, more that he is devoloping his skills and J.T. has pefected them. I don't think it is a plausible scenario though. That is unless the Jaguars get desperate because of injuries. I don't think Jaguars are an option any longer. They made a (A BIG ONE) commitment to these young DE's and I think they will be willing to take the lumps on it.

Eddie,
I disagree. I don't see the Dolphins management budging on this issue. Right now there is no value for J.T. We won't garner what Parcells wants and J.T. won't risk his reputation by not showing up to camp. I don't think he is that type of guy. IF I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it.

Dolphindude,

I like your lineup with the exception of Torbor instead of Ayodole. However, realistically I think it may look like this.

LE: Holliday
NT: Ferguson/Starks
RE: Merling/Roth
Jack: ? (A. Wright, Ayodole, Anderson, etc...)
ILB: Torbor
ILB Crowder
OLB: Porter

Omar,
In your opinion do you think Judge Dredd is clinically isane? He actually said Henne is the next Marino and refuses to give (lame duck) Beck any chance. Also, can't you groom two young QB's?

F.Y.I. I know Henne is Parcells guy, so if Beck struggles and doesn't grab the starting QB position he'll be on a tight leash. I just think it is riduculous to try and deem Beck something with what we were able to see of him last year.

If J.T. is not going to be here where is he going and what are we getting in return?

Dolphindude,

I agee with you somewhat. I have no doubt JT will show up at camp, work hard and play hard. That being said I do not see Jason Taylor in the Miami Dolphins' plans for the full season or beyond.

If he were I don't think there would be the communication disconnect and strained relationship that is being reported between the front office and Jason Taylor.

That's why I am curious to know what communication has taken place since the draft between Jason Taylor and the Trifecta.

I think JT will be dealt to a contender for a Second Round draft pick in 2009, right before the trade deadline. Very similar to the Chris Chambers deal. The writing is on the wall.

It could very well be the Jags if they fail to mount an effective pass rush with their youngbloods.

Xbox 360 or PS3...

well you don't have to worry about games like Madden or NCAA cuz both systems carry these games...

But i'll put it like this if you like shooter games like Halo, Gears of War, or Mass Effect then get an Xbox...

But if you like RPG games like Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, or Metal Gear Solid then get a PS3 (oh b.t.w the PS3 has Blue-Ray..which in a few years is gonna take over the DVD market)

...Football question...do you see Akin Ayodole running Channing Crowder out of town?

Dolphindude and Eddie,
I doubt Crowder starts this year.

we have beck and henne and when they fans finish wtih them go go POPPINGA.

LOL that is the greatest signing the Phins have ever made Kelly POPPINGA.

Omar can you or E do a feature on this guy? even if its just for the blog?

Omar,

When exactly does the rookie camp start and will all the UFA's be reporting?
Thank you.

Let me knock some of these off really early since I finished my racquetball game early (3-1) winner.

For those who know Matt Shodell on Canesport tease him that I housed him....

Back to Dolphins.

To be honest, I don't know where the Dolphins had Bess on their draft board. But it very unlikely they would have invested a draft pick in him because of character concerns.

From what I know he's very quick and agile, and is good at makig cuts. But he drops too many catchable balls and was exclusively used on short dumo-off passes and out routes, which means he's not a refined route runner.

At best he could be a slot receiver.

Rookie camp starts on Friday, and you all will likely get a live report from me on what I'm seeing, but don't expect much because I don't know all of what they'll be doing, and if they will allow live blogging.

The Trifecta brings new rules.

Everyone who hasn't played in the NFL for a season can participate, and they might be working out some street free agents (which means anyone who has been released from an NFL team).

The Trifecta like Lehan and I have him penciled in to start because of his age. I think whoever stays healthy wil be starting opposite Will Allen. Goodman has superior skills, but I'm not sure he can stay healthy.

I have Tab Perry being Derek Hagan's main competition for that third receiver spot. If the Dolphins are smart they make Ginn the starter, but use him as the slot guy in three receiver sets, running drags and crossing routes.

Perry will likely serve as the other kick returner back there with Ginn.

I see Ayodele and Crowder starting the season as the inside linebacker, and Porter and Taylor as the outside guys.

Don't sleep on Charlie Anderson because the Trifecta have "loved him long time."

Catch that 2 Live Crew reference?

As for the DLine, as I've said before it's a poop or get off the pot season for Roth. Holliday will likely be a salary cap casualty next season because of his bloated contract so he'll likely take on every challenger and have to hold them off. But I see a four man end rotation.

The Dline is now deep and I suspect they will grow as the season goes on.

Omar,

Who is going to play Fullback?

What is going on with the kicking situation?

I have both systems and enjoy them both. I prefer to play Madden on the PS3, which is the most important part. You have to pay for online pay with the XBOX 360 and the PS3 online is free. The 360 online is better though. The PS3 Bluray player is the best one on the market.

The Jaguars are over Jason Taylor. All talks are off. They will grow and groom Harvey and Groves.

I was told Jack Del Rio wasn't into bringing in a 33-year old player and making him the highest paid player on a playoff team.

Harvey and Groves work cheaper, and have more upside.

Omar,

Do you think Ted Ginn essentially becomes a full-time No. 2 receiver under this regime? He's not big enough to be a standard No. 1 and it looks like he won't be playing much of a role in kick/punt returns based on our free agent signings.

Was Jeff Iraland's 'Pillar of Defense' quote a slip or was it a smoke screen. Or did he say it without even knowing he did

Is there any chance they could go after a disgruntled WR, ie, Boldin or Johnson? Parcells did get Owens in Dallas... or was that a Jerry Jones decision?

This is for everyone that knocked me for saying JT is at fault for not being traded because he isn't willing to sign a contract that would be beneficial to the team trading for him,

"I was told Jack Del Rio wasn't into bringing in a 33-year old player and making him the highest paid player on a playoff team."

Those are Omar's words. Like I've already said, if JT REALLY wants out then he'll do what it takes to get traded.

Dolphindude

definetly on your sid ewith this one. If JT come back ready to play we cuold have one of the most dangerous D-lines for sacks and for stopping the run.

Tommya, is there any way you could maybe just shut the heck up for a few years? You are the worst regular poster here.

Dolphinsdude,

I don't think you go from one of the worst fronts in football, ever, to one of the most dangerous in one season.

But there is potential for growth.

As for the "pillar of defense" comment. I think it was a slip up that was turned into a threat.

negotiations with Jake Long has stall and his camp had a Tuesday deadline.

The Trifecta began talks with Chris Long's camp on Thursday or Friday and said get ready to start talking terms, here is the frame work of the deal we have.

Long's camp caved once Miami shortened the deal to five years instead of six.

The shorter deal benefits Miami because they could probably franchise him for less than what he'll be making in the first five years of his deal since a franchise is the average of the top five salaries.

Jake Long is already the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

Pretty sad how the system works isn't it.

Omar,
Do you have any idea who is currently the fasted Dolphin under contract? Is it Ginn?

Also, XBOX live is something you have to pay for, but it is hands down better than PS3 online. Not even close.

Mauia and Boomer will battle it out for the starting FB job.

Any slip ups by either and they will be replaced b the best FB that gets cut afer training camp, and there will be plenty.

I'm not sold on either. Mauia can't do much outside of block, and I'm not sold he can do that at a high level. He better be one hell of a special teams player to survive his "you don't know who I am" stunt.

Omar,

I agree with you about Jason Taylor and Jags for now.

But as the season progresses and the Jags have an ineffective pass rush, the thought of Jason Taylor will become more appealing even at $8 million per season. Especially if the Jags feel it's their only weakness.

Cam Cameron,

Ginn JR is going to be the Number 1 WR. You guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but most #1 WR in this league are based off of reliability and making clutch catches when absolutely necessary, and they also tend to be the DEEP THREAT. he may not be big enough to catch the middle and over people in slots, but when you can burn everybody on the field ina dead sprint it doesn't matter what size you are there's probably noone around you fast enough to stop anything you're doing. it's Ginn's year baby!

Jerry Jones got Owens.

Parcells didn't want him.

I don't see them going after a receiver. They likely aren't trading draft picks for ANY veterans, unless they are from Dallas ;)

And I don't see Jason Taylor getting traded to any team that isn't a contender, and I see that getting done closer to the trading deadline. The bigger the season he's having, the higher the draft pick he'll bring.

Right now the ceiling will likely be a third rounder, but he could bring more if he opens the season on a monsterous run.

Omar,
You don't think 1. The depth(Cam gutted the D-line from Saban) 2. The defensive scheme 3. Injuries played a part in there terrible front?

We have upgraded Strength, size, and depth. I think the 3-4 fits JT, Porter, Crowder at the linebacker spots a lot more than the 4-3. Taylor at this point in his game is to weak to play solid run support. Porter was and is not accustomed to playing from OLB in a 4-3. He even played as a DE(OMG!) last year with his hand down. Crowder will be in a contract year, plus his size and speed make him ideal for a 3-4 middle linebacker. He does not have the speed to go from sideline to sideline like most 4-3 ILB need. IF the D-Line is playing well and we don't catch the injury bug, I do believe we could be very dangerous.

Omar,

I agree with Perry being the slot guy, 3rd WR. Sounds like Bess and Hagan are alike when it comes to drops.

Also, I saw you posted you see the Dolphins in more 2 tight end sets and I agree with you. I don't think we will see 4 wides, much, if at all. I am thinking it is going to be Fasano and Peele in those sets. Martin is going to be the odd man out as he was disappointing to say the least.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it really benefits the Dolphins to start Crowder.

If they play him and he does well the Trifecta know they have their middle linebacker for the future.

If they play him and he just does O.K. they'll have showcased him for another team, which signings him to a decent contract, and based on how he played in 2009 they might land a high compensatory pick for him.

On too a personal question. I saw you took offense to some of our critizing J.T. I will not beat a dead horse. I know your feelings on J.T. but how much time if any do you get to hang with these players on a social level? Without the professional, "we are on the record" feeling going on.

It takes a year or two to figure out the 3-4 Dolphinsdude.

I'm gonna agree with Dolphindude on this one...the Dolphins have assembled one heck of a front 7(with 10 deep.) What WAS a weakness is NOW a strength! Good call.

To be honest with you Dolphinsdude, not enough, but the Dolphins organization wants it that way. And that was the old regime. I can't even imagine what the new one will be like.

You see some in social settings. Ethan runs into them all the time because he lives up there and he's a social animal on the prowl. I'm married with kids now so I've slowed down a bit.

How much of the "J.T. walking in while Parcells was watching film and J.T. having is partner from the DWTS at DAvie", can you actually factually validate? I don't want to know your feelings are what you were told happened. I just want to get a solid YES/No answer. Could you validate the story with facts if you wanted to? Yes/No

I'm not giving up on Martin just yet. He brings more to the table than Peelle, who actually makes more than him as his backup. Imagine that!

XBOX 360 because of XBOX live. Now, for MY QUESTION: Will we get full effort from Joey Porter next year to lead our defense along with JT and give us some value for that contract. Also, what is the chance that Yeremiah comes back and has 70 tackle, 2 in, 2 sack production. If so could we possibly be looking at a Top-12 NFL defense

I would usually agree with you about the 3-4 Omar but most of these players are accustomed to or played in some adapation of the 3-4. Saban played a hybrid style, They wanted to play it last year but I think personnell or Cam made that go out with the wind.

Holliday- Played 3-4 under Saban
Ferguson- Played 3-4 under Dallas
Starks-Unknown, 4-3 at Titans
Roth- 3-4 under Saban, but ? is out on him.
Porter- 3-4 in Pittsburg excelled
Jason Taylor- his best year was in the 3-4.
Torbor/Ayodole- both played 3-4 in Dallas.
Crowder- Suited for the 3-4. Played some under Saban.
Merling/Langsford- Suited for the 3-4 but they will take some adjusting time to find their niche.

The real question mark for the 3-4 under our new regime will be how much attacking they do? How much man with they force our DB's to play? What primary coverage schemes do they like? How complex is the defense to learn?

I don't see why not, morlon. Joey Porter is a gamer and will be a lot more comfortable in this defense tailored for his skill set. I do hope that JT will be here for the veteran leadership and talent that he brings to a team...no chance in hell he gives it less than 110% anytime he's on the football field, and that's cool by me.

Too many people say it happened for it not to have happened. We heard it two weeks ago and Ethan was the first to write about it when I reported JT was being shopped.

However, I think it's being blown out of proportion. What did JT expect from Parcells, for him to bow down. I also heard he made some funny comment when he entered which Parcells didn't think was funny. I can totally see that.

But it's irresponsible to write what someone supposedly said unless you heard it, or one of the parties in the discussion said he says it.

Otherwise it's just that elementary game of telephone, you know the one where you say something to someone, they say what they think they heard to someone, and by the time it gets to you it's "JT said get my (bleep) out of Miami."

I'm REALLY not into gossip and drama. I'm into football. When he doesn't show up to a mandatory camp, gets hurt in Dancing With the Stars, or is out of shape, THEN the Dolphins have an issue.

If you check out the Ireland post draft Q&A on the main Sun-Sentinel page Parcells mouthpiece wants to get one message across:

"Nothing regarding Jason Taylor has changed."

Which means, he'll either be a Dolphin this season or retire.

If Bell is the starter I'm expecting better numbers than that from him.

I firmly believe the defensive started its slide last season when he went down. The Dolphins were pretty fierce against the Redskins, a playoff team, and should have won that game.

If Bell stays healthy, and that's an if, I see him having a good season. And I see the secondary improving significantly because he's a playmaker.

Like I said Morlon I expect Taylor and Porter to excel in this defense. That is if the front is as stout as they CAN be. Bell is a big question mark though. ACL injuries are tough to come back from, especially DB's. They require their knees for that agility to make quick cuts allowing them to make plays for the ball. I know I was a corner and safety in college. If he is back to form, like he was playing at the end of the 2006 year we would be some lucky fans. I just don't know if we can get our hopes up on Bell yet.

The 3-4 conversation begs this question.

It's a very complicated defensive scheme and how effective can the Dolphins be at running it when the season starts, especially if their entire defense is not participating in voluntary workout/mini camps? I mean, there are a lot of new faces and communication is the key to making the 3-4 effective.

to all you ted ginn haters and doubters: listen i was wiyh you last year when they drafted ginn #9, right then and there i doubted camerons ability to coach this team (not that i wanted brady either i think i'll take ginn over him).brady is a pretty boy that really never did "jack" at notre dame, but the bottom line is ginn is a dolphin now "suck it up, get over it and accept it. lets root for him because he is a dolphin. remember a guy by the name of santana moss? they said much of the same about him and let me tell you i'll take a santana moss anyday!

I was a punter in college...that counts for something right?

LOL, sorry Omar, but I agree with you on Bell and the defensive slide. Too bad it was during the first game of the season.

Do you know Bell's medical status? Has he fully recovered from the achilles' injury? Can he be as effective as he was his first year back?

Omar,
I've been wondering how the Fins are going to distribute the snaps during training camp between 3 QB's?
Will there be enough snaps to go around, especially considering the fact that we're installing a new system on offense????

Ginn will have to become a better route runner to be the No. 1 receiver.

I do see the Henning calling seven plays for him a game through because of his special talents.

However, Wilford will be the possession receiver, and I see this team being an eat up the clock offense rather than one that relies on the big plays.

But all those Steve Smith plays Henning used in Carolina can be busted off for Ginn, who has a similar skills set, except for the fact he is more long speed, than quick burst speed.

I agree Omar. To my next personal question. Could you please tell me how you feel about Armando from the Herald? He has used this whole incident and blown it up as a tool to get his name out there. He even made ESPN. All he has done is create a rift between fans and JT that wasn't necessary. Blow something out of proportion for his own personal benefit and degrade the integrity of two men(Parcells + Jason Taylor) whom I'm sure he doesn't know. Let alone by ruining the trade value of Taylor.. LOL! Well maybe not all of that but I don't like the guy. What is your opinion? Be honest!

omar (The best dolphin beat writer around)
the man 4 the people, always a great job being here 4 the diehards, anyway just finished youtube highlights of jayson foster.WOW.Unbelievable. I know its lesser competition but he smoked them, whats his 40 and wieght. He would be used in slash role. How are his hands ,from what i saw they were good, tougher than he looks doesnt go down rightr away, can he make the 53 as slot/returner and also make an impact.i know hes only 5-7 but he looks faster and more explosive than ginn.only payer in NCAA to throw 80+ td, catch 80+ td, run 80+ td and kickoffs and punt tds 80+. ur thought on him

Eddie,

Bell is working out now and is cleared for contact drill when they start in July, unless he's suffered a setback.

As for the QB snaps, that's why they cut Matt Baker. He wasn't going to have a chance to make the 53-man roster, so it was better to give him a shot elsewhere.

However, I see McCown starting out as the No. 1 and Beck and Henne having to push to unseat him. If McCown doesn't have it early in training camp the coaches say, "NEXT."

The No. 2 hitter should be Beck because he's got the experience edge, and at 27 they need to know what they have NOW because he's got a shorter shelf life than Henne.

Omar,

My question is about the offense. Henning doesn't usually elicit images of a wide open offense, yet recently Beck was quoted as saying we'll be trying to get first downs on first and 2nd downs now instead of just 3rd downs (paraphrased)...does this septegenarian have a few tricks up his sleeve?

BTW...I'd cry that you started early...but who am I kidding! I love me some Omar Blog!!!!

I did not want Brady Quinn on the Dolphins and I still don't want Brady Quinn on the Dolphins. I don't think Quinn is accurate enough and the longer he sits, the worse he is going to be.

I firmly believe Chad Henne will be better than Brady Quinn.

Omar great blog, WIll the trifecta try to re-sign Carey before he hits free agency, when he might be too pricey? and why do you know if Baltimore tried to trade for Beck? If Cameron liked him so much wouldn't he have tried to get him instead of Flacco

On Foster. It's lesser competition people. He's like 5-foot-7, at best.

CALM DOWN.

When he's doing that stuff against REAL NFL players I'll let you know. Until then please don't get so excited.

At best he makes the practice squad. I suspect Kircus and Camarillo could smoke him as a receiver right now. Remember, the kids was a QB specialist at Georgia Southern, which I will admit is one of the elite small school programs.

Omar,

I think you are right on the money with the QB situation. I think McCown is going to surprise us, but if he doesn't "he gone".

Great news on Bell if that is the case. I think he and an improved Jason Allen would make a nice tandem. But no doubt Bell makes the defense better.

LOL! Not going to answer my question about Armando?

jahdoh,

Who isn't trying to get first downs on first down? That coordinator is a boob.

Expect these Dolphins to be all about the power running game.

As for Carey, they better try to re-sign him during the season. But I suspect they will wait till they see what they have in him.

There really aren't any options on the roster to replace him right now. But the Trifecta needs to know if he's a guy who spends a lot of time in the training room or not.

They watch everything I'm told.

Omar,

A question for the tuna-3, have them give a comparison between Beck and Henne as to what they bring to the QB position, and then with McCown as well.

For you- This may be a question better answered on a slow day, but you have mentioned the size requirements the tuna-3 have for different positions. Could you specify those for the Defensive front seven as well as the O-line. Also, for an education for us less knowledgable, what are the responsibilities for each of those various positions that differentiate the play along the O-line as well as the 3-4. [Why, for instance would Glenn Dorsey work as a Tackle in a 4-3, but not NT?]

thanks

Is Ronnie Brown going to be ready to play?
I keep hearing people on tv saying it takes 12-18 months to recover from an ACL. If that's true then Ricky is going to be the man early on.
The Fins have got to be looking to pick up a FA RB................ I hear LaMont Jordan is next to be cut in Oakland. What do you think Omar???

I agree Omar. Foster needs to learn the WR position and focus on it before he is ready to play. I see him similar to Marcus Vick. Athletic enough to have flashes of brilliance but needing to work at it to become consistent.

question about the OTA
is it supposed to -

a. build strength and endurance
b.add size and weight to those who are out of standards with the trifecta's requirements
c. do both at the same time

Another question Omar,

How long before a national sports outlet comes calling and steals you away from us ala J. Cole and A. Marvez?

I'm sure it's just a matter of time...every time I establish a new dolphins beatwriting favorite it happens...

I just realized that even if you did have suitors you wouldn't be able to answer this honestly...maybe just lie to us and tell us you'll never leave?

I didn't see any question about Armondo, and if I did I don't know if I would answer it.

Omar,

Some have said that the 1st rd. pick the dolphins wanted for Taylor was too high? What is your opinion - what do you think would have been fair? Is the best scenario now that Jason comes in, plays well and is traded to a desperate team just before the deadline (like Chambers to the Chargers last year)?

omar,
i think the dolphins should be patient let JT come in and do what he does to start the season. the trade deadline isn't until week 5, you think we would of gotten a second rounder for chambers if we traded him in the offseason? i doubt it! point is we could use him in practice to benefit long and merling, find a trade partner before the deadline and get everything we can out of him. and please could everybody stop with the whole "JT is the face of this franchise and our leader". a leader does go dancin in LA while the rest of the team bust their a#% in mini camp. they don't complain about losing and miss the one thing that makes a team better "PRACTICE". with that said i hope he could dance off to another team by week 5 giving us a 1st rounder next year.

"Who isn't trying to get first downs on first down? That coordinator is a boob."

LOL...obviously!

I think I was asking more about Becks intimation that they'd be more aggressive on 1st and 2nd down then what I know Hennings offense to be...are they drawing up running plays that they expect 10+ yard gains on, will they throw it more often on 1st down?...or was Beck out in left field here?

helium,

You are right. Your question is toooooo complex. But you'll have an answer soon. That's a hint.

But th break it down, to be a nose tackle you have to be be at least a 3gap player. Strong enough to hold your ground, which means a guard can't move you, and quick enough to shoot inside to a guards left or right.

Dorsey doesn't have the frame to hold his ground, but he's a two gap guy because he has the quickness to shoot between the guards on pass rushing situations. He'll be excellent in a 4-3, much like Warren Sapp. But like Warren, he can't excel in a 3-4. You need big, beefy strong guys who can't be moved.

Omar,
On the Fasano front, have you heard anything about how far along he's come in recovering from shoulder surgery?

Omar,

Thanks for being the best dolphin beat writer who actually supplies worthy material such as active depth charts and accurate reports. I am very happy with our offseason but so real concerns are still present. I was Y.Bell biggest fan before he got hurt, but an achillies injury is no joke! Jason Allen has the athletic ability but never seems to be in the right place(and he seems flat out dumb). I don't know if any of our secondary would start on 65% of teams in the nfl...;.maybee w.allen. I am still pissed we passed on D.Hall . Anyway keep up the good work Omar and keep us dolphin addicts supplied with our fix!

I heard Ronnie Brown was in fantastic physical condition as his ACL tear was clean and the knee did not suffer collateral ligament/cartilidge damage.

I had a relatively clean ACL tear and with physcal therapy you can return sooner than you think as long as there is no collateral damage. The replaced my ACL with hamstring tissue and I was playing again in 6 months. Plus my repaired ACL is more sound than my non-injured ACL.

Thanx Eddie

Omar,

3-4 LB's are suppose to be able to(correct me if i'm worng)

-QB containment
-support run stopping
-sideline to sideline coverage
-help protect against the dump off pass or reversals
-and drop back into zone coverage
the trifecta has size requirements but do those requiremts hinder the LB from doing effective pass protection? Dude running with extra weight really sucks.
Also why did they keep channing Crowder?
...he's smaller than what they want
...and besides being a very solid tackler hasn't done much for stooping the run or for pass protection in the zone.

please ladies and gentlemen inform me and correct me if you feel im wrong

I'm not one who believes the hype about Ronnie Brown being ready to play.

While his ACL tear wasn't extremely significant considering he was walking on his own the day after he suffered the injury, I have NEVER seen a RB come back in 9 months and NOT SUFFER a setback.

NEVER. And I've seen about 10 ACL tears, five of which have been from RBs.

The Dolphins would be stupid to rush him back, and I'm sure they won't.

To all of you Parcells worshipers: Taylor has a right to his life. These workouts are VOLUNTARY. I'm sure it would have been better that Taylor comes in early for the workouts since they seem much more serious and probably beneficial to whatever the previous regimes did. However, the Dancing Stars routine is an excellent career opportunity. If it doesn't fit Parcells' style - whoopdeedoo! I don't think Taylor needed to ask for permission. And don't forget about the Jason Taylor building-size robot in London. Yes, face of the franchise. And was that HOME?? game in London best for the team? No! But H.Wayne did it for NFL marketing reasons. It's a business too, and Jason is taking care of his own business, during the OFF season. Sorry charlie...

Sean,

I for one am not pissed we passed on D. Hall. In my opinion he's a pure cover guy, weak tackling skills, and spells Team with an I.

Helium, it sounds like you might be inhaling more than just helium.

Omar,
So since they won't rush Ronnie back what type of RB will they be looking to pick up as a FA?
A big strong guy that will run between the tackles or a more dynamic guy that has pass catching ability?

Omar,

That's quite the hint you dropped up there to helium...obviously you don't care to expound...but I'm looking forward to here what all the regulars here think of it!

Let's see...we'll know soon, and Jacksonville is "over" taylor....who are the potential trade partners? My guess, it's the Redskins or the Raiders since they are historically the most likely to overpay for a player....I pray beyond prayer we can get a 1st rounder!!!

I have 2 questions:

1) What are they looking for in a Nose Tackle and how do they see the personnal so far for this?

2) What are they looking for in TE and how do they feel about the current TE's being used in enough sets?

Thanx Omar,

I really appreciate the incite you bring. Do you ever give any help to Shandel now that he is the little fish covering the Canes? He's a decent fellow, but the bloggers can be pretty harsh in thier stupid criticisms (like on grammar and spelling and sh1t like that).
Anyhow, keep up the great work!

Tommyb - Like Bill Clinton, "I didn't inhale."

I should have qualified my ACL story. I am not and never was an NFL running back.

I agree with Omar that they should not rush Ronnie back as everyone heals on their own schedule.

Channing Crowder has the size they need, and he's very rangy. I thought he was one of the best college linebackers I've ever seen when he was at Florida.

He just couldn't stay out of trouble, which dropped his draft stock. But he is a first round talent.

Now is he instinctive and a leader? We'll learn that quickly because the Trifecta will be pushinng his buttons. I'm certain of that.

Tommya,

I can answer that one....given the option between x and "big strong guy" at any position (besides KR maybe), this managment is thinking big strong guy!

That said, isn't Cobbs still on the roster? I'm not so confident they'll pick up a FA RB once cuts have made unless the injury situation changes.

How'd I do Omar? Can I have a job making you coffee?...I refuse to watch tivo'd DWTS with you though!

Tommya,

What you say about ACLs that get repaired being more sound than the other knee is absolutely right.

However, when you start training on it two soon, and for RB's start cutting on it too soon, you put stress on the other knee, and that usually tears the following season.

I've seen that happen twice, and Frank Gore was one of them that did it.

I think your answer about now answering the Armando question is enough. I find it hilarious that you have been doing great in depth roster analysis and other information along with some JT tidbits(more DTWS); Armando throws up gossip goodies all over the place all th time and he gets to be on ESPN. I know you've been there before. I'm just saying you have been balls to the walls last couple of weeks. If anybody deserved some Dolphin ESPN air time it was you Omar! Much props!

It is interesting to compare Jason Taylor's situation with Zach Thomas. Since Thomas was too small and injury prone, he became a cast-off. But it seemed like New England was very interested in him (do they run a similiar defense to Parcells' 3-4?). And I'm guessing that Zach would have renegotiated his contract (I doubt Jason will give money away). So, are the tuna-3 just being greedy, asking for too much for Taylor?

Are there any CB's or WR's you see getting cut in the summer due to salary casualty that would compliment our roster nicely?
F.Y.I. whoever said Keyshawn to Miami in 08, no thanks!

Helium,

I agree with Parcells that voluntary (meaning mandatory) especially since the team went 1-15 last season and they are trying to build a solid 3-4 defense considering all of the pieces they acquired.

At the very least the veteran leader of the defense should not show up cracking jokes and disrrupting the team unannounced with the expectation of warm greetings from Bill Parcells. I don't know Bill Parcells personally but I know enough that he would not like that type of hello.

To be honest with you Dolphinsdude, I'm not a big ESPN fan.

Never have been. I don't like the way they treat the Hurricanes, college footballs bad boys. And I hate the way they set the agenda for the national sports landscape.

I've never been a big gossip guy. NEVER. I'd rather talk football. But I have a lot of respect for Armando. He's been a Dolphins beat writer for nearly longer than I've been alive.

Helium,
The circumstances are a little different for Zach, he hasn't had a full year of football in awhile. At least one that I can remember. I could be wrong here so correct me. Also, he plays a position that took a lot more abuse on his body than JT had too. The Dolphins wanted to create youth and strength inside. JT is still a dynamic athlete, zach's athletic abilities were declining at a rapid rate.

What'll be the TEs main role in the offense? How inportant they'll be helping develop young QBs because the the short reads help set timing, and the double-TE front for protection?

Love WR Devone Bess, cant wait to see what he brings to the team.

That's classy Omar, and maybe true, but I've been reading Armando since the beginning and finally gave up on him last preseason...since Cole left the Herald he got a deity complex...he's got nothing on you. If anything that's yet another reason NOT to watch ESPN...they've really degraded over the last few years.

jahndoh,
Look at it this way:
if the Fins don't pick up a FA, and Ricky goes down or smokes pot again, then we'll be starting our season with Cobbs as the starter. Sorry but that's a REALLY BAD situation to be in. They've got to pick up a FA RB. And they have first dibs on FA's so they'll be able to pick up a quality guy.

He's been a Dolphins beat writer for nearly longer than I've been alive.

LOL! This and it took you all of a year to be him out as the best Dolphin beat write in town.

Salguero got the "deity" complex (which I mean sarcasticly...don't get all bible quoting on me Armando!), NOT COLE!

Taylor's issues isn't his contract. The Dolphins don't want to make a new one with him. they'll pay him what he's due to make the next two years and let him walk as a free agent if they can't trade him during the season.

The one thing they won't do, under any circumstance, no matter how much of a jerk he becomes (and I don't suspect he will) is cut him.

They want a chance to win him over, and show him how successful he can be in their system. But first he's got to buy in. They also want to see how much he's got left.

Tommya,

Good point, I'll concede, if you promise not to leave Parmele out of your next scenario! :-) Cheers

Maybe the Dolphins asking too much for Taylor is their way of honoring his trade request with a real intention of keeping him.

Perhaps they have all of us guessing and will work it out in camp. Parcells is the master of mind games and this could be his way of getting Taylor softened up with intentions of keeping him. (I would hope this is the case.)

I don't watch ESPN either. But I like their website.

Omar,

I know you have met Jason Allen and have talked with many people in the organization.......do you think he has the smarts to play saftey. I played saftey in high school and college and you really are the defensive field general directing quite alot of coverages and calls. He seems dumb!

i have a question. Who are we gonna throw the ball to?

What free agent RB is going to be available that we need on our roster? We going to have Samkon Gado again. I rather let Parmele took his bruises and bumps as a rookie if worst case scenario happened. F.Y.I. Ronnie will be back and be the starting RB in the fall. Ricky will be the back-up. Parmele will be the 3rd back. Cobbs will be cut.

Omar, I think we are on the same page now in regard to JT.

They NEED Jason Taylor. The defense they are putting in doesn'twork without him.

Jason Taylor was worth a second rounder. They asked for a first, hoping to get a later first, early second, and the best they got was a third I'm told.

They'll sit on him till the trading deadline and hope some contender like Indianapolis, San Diego, Philadelphia, Dallas, the New York Giants, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville want to stack the deck against the Patriots.

Real productive question Roy.

I'd say they'll throw it to the WRs and the TE.

How's that Mr. Snarky?

Agree, they NEED JT, they don't have a strong secondary to it is necessary to make up for it putting pressure on opposing QBs. JT brings that better than any other player in there right now.

That is a question I have to Omar. Jason Allen? What gives with this kid? Even last year when he was on the field due to the loss of every safety available he still didn't look good. The athletic ability is there. He has skills, he does need read offenses well. Seems to me he would always be 20 yards deep and take at least 3 seconds to react to a pass. He does not have ball hawking skills. I want him to succeed badly but I just don't see it happening.

Dolphindude,
I disagree. We get first dibs in FA, and there are RB's out there right now that are much better than Gado: Sean Alexander, and Dominick Rhodes. And word is LaMont Jordan is next to be cut.
And I doubt Ronnie will be ready before the middle of the season.

Good stuff on JT Omar,

interstingly, if he plays out his contract and then DOES go on to sign another contract with another team, the fins could easily get a 3rd rounder compensatory for him the following year...I'd rather have him for 2 years and get a 3rd rounder than trade him today for a 3rd rounder.

Sean,

Sorry dude, but I'm not touching your question. Just can't.

But I will say Jason Allen must prove he's intelligent enough to make the right defensive play calls and reads as a safety.

He did a decent job last season making plays when given opportunity, but teams made a lot of plays on him.

It'll be interesting to see if he comes into his own this season. But i suspect a chance in defensive schemes and language will slow him down (as it will a few others) a tad bit.

This will be a poop or get off the pot season for him.

Why would Lamont want to sit on our bench? S. Alexnder, are you serious? I don't want him anywhere near our roster. Like I said IF Ronnie isn't ready use Hillard as the 3rd running back. Parmele will suprise you. I rather have the rookie than Jordan or Alexander. They would not be worth the $ and hinder the devolopment of any young prospects. Remember the key is to get younger. Not way older.

I just hope JT gets cut as soon as possible.......... from Dancing with the Stars of course. LOL
The sooner he gets cut from that show the better off the Fins will be. I know JT is somewhat jaded, but I truly believe he'll come around once he sees the improvements the Fins have made.

Dolphindude,
The objective isn't to get younger, it's getting guys that can read NFL defenses and pick up the blitz so our QB doesn't end up in the hospital!!! That's why you go out and get a FA RB!!! Giving rookie RB's a lot of game time is asking for trouble.

Many Scouts and fans say that Jake Long can't play left tackle in the NFL and I agree with them because every time I saw a game in which he played against a good DE with speed he struggled. If he is not able to play left tackle then he will have to be moved to right tackle and that will mean the dolphins will have wasted money and the 1st overall pick. I'm pretty sure they are aware of this. Are they not concerned?

IF you bring in Shaun Alexander or LAmont Jordan you bring in issues with how many touches these veterans get. Shaun didn't want to play third fiddle in Seattle why would he do it here? Ronnie and Ricky are comfortable with each other. Bringing in 1 of these two guys disrupts chemistry in the backfield. Maybe another decent free agent but I don't want either of these two.

Many scouts and fans say that dolphin fan?

Wrong. Many fans maybe but the worst any notable scout ever said was that he was "better suited" for the Right side.

Which is ridiculous given he played 2 dominating years at LT in the Big 10 and beat out Thomas for OL of the year on the left side...and is LEFT handed.

I've heard enough of this trash.

Everytime he played a speed rusher he struggled?

Name the games sir, you're full of it and I'm calling you out!

Dolphin Fan,

This question was already asked and answered. Where were you last weekend? In a coma or just comatose?

Jake Long fits our need at Left Tackle. He (Jake) is going to play Left Tackle for the Miami Dolphins.

Dolphindude,
The best thing about winning just one game is that you pick first in FA. I'm sure there are going to be other FA RB's available. That's why I was asking Omar which direction he thinks the Fins will go in selecting a FA RB. :-p

They are aware of that stuff Dolphins Fan.

Remember, they studied every down of Jake Long's college career, and came to the conclusion he could play LT, and become very good at it in time.

Remember, if he can't play left tackle then no one drafted can because he was the offensive lineman with the highest grade.

Now, I'll make two points.

When Vernon Carey came out they said he couldn't play left tackle because he didn't have the footwork. Well, he did, and did it pretty well.

Finally, if Jake Long has to move to right tackle what's the big deal. They move Carey back to left, allowing Long to grow into his starting role, and either leave Carey there or address the left tackle in the 2009 draft or free agency.

It wouldn't mean you have a bust. Robert Gallery might not be an elite left tackle, but he's a pretty good NFL guard. At worst Long is a bust at both tackle spots and becomes a decent guard.

The Dolphins made the smartest move there was. They went for the thing that was closest to a sure bet. Imagine if they would have drafted Chris Long and waited till the second round to take a tackle. They would have been left holding a bag of coal.

As for free agent running backs. They think they do sign another before training camp opens. But I don't see anyone over 26 getting added to this team.

There are plenty of decent backs out there on the open market now. The Dolphins will likely bring a few into this rookie camp to see what they have left.

Omar,

I thought I read somewhere Vernon Carey could move to and be better suited to play Right Guard. Could you see this happening? If so, who could play Right Tackle that is currently on the roster?

Omar,
Don't forget one REALLY BIG advantage the Fins have in picking J. Long:
HE'S ALREADY UNDER CONTRACT!!!
Having him for the entire summer is going to go a LONG way in getting him prepared to play LT!

The games are when they played Michigan State, Ohio State, and Florida. That's just the games I know about. That DE from Michigan almost had a sack against him. He was having problems against a bit. Jim Tressel even said Gholston was throwing Long to the ground and that's the DE he gave up a sack to.

What do you think about the TEs battle for spots? I really think they will be a main part of the offense. Fasano looks like the favorite at first glance, what about Martin and Peele?

"That DE from Michigan almost had a sack against him." LMAO...

He almost gave up a sack!?!? And you are panicking. I am sure Jake is going to give up a sack or three or more in the NFL his first season and what are you going to do, cry BUST?!?!

By the way Jake dominated Harvey (DE, FL) the Jags' new sack artist.

Eddie is right.

Jake Long owned Harvey in the bowl game.

I'd order the depth chart Martin, Fasano, Peelle and Ryan. But a lot of it would depend on what these guys are doing in the weight room right now.

On another note it appears Gholston did get the better of Jake in their college days and now they are going to get it on twice a year.

Thus, Jake will be extra-motivated to be all that he can be. I am sure Sparano will have Jake ready for those meetings.

The big deal about is if they have to move him to right tackle that means they wasted all that money on him and that he wasn't worth the 1st overall pick because you can easily get a right tackle in the later rounds.

They are not moving Jake Long to Right Tackle. He's not Robert Gallery .

Sparano is a former O-line coach and I am sure he knows what he sees.

I'm not really panicking. I know as rookie he's going to mess up at times because that's what rookies do. It's part of growing and learning.

Omar,

Any thoughts on moving Vernon Carey to RG and signing a free agent RT if non of the kids are ready to start this year?

Of course Tressel is going to say that!!! You watch too much youtube...for the record all the video I saw where someone got pressure on the QB was when Jake was setting up for help from Hart. I'm starting to think that all these so called experts did all their research on Youtube 15 second clips with catchy soundtracks. Jake Long is a beast and an excellent selection and "Dolphin Fan" is looking like a misnomer as far as I'm concerned.

"Jake Long owned Harvey in the bowl game."

JET..er..."dolphin" Fan,

Go troll a pats board please!!! I thought I finally shed these trolls when I quit on the Topix boards!

Dolphin Fan,

You act like RT is not a football position.

The money is wasted if he doesn't play...as long as he plays any position the fins got the best value they could have.

If he doesn't work at LT he'll work at RT...both are required to field an OL.

Omar,

We cut loose some of scouts today. What are the chances we get NIx from San Diego who was let go when they picked up Mueller?

Justin Smiley reminds me of a larger version of Mark Dixon. Anyone else get the same impression?

"He almost gave up a sack!?!? And you are panicking. I am sure Jake is going to give up a sack or three or more in the NFL his first season and what are you going to do, cry BUST?!?!"

That's exactly what he's going to do.

Like Mel Kiper said, his pass protection will need work, but his run blocking is good.

Eddie,

He's bigger than Dixon?

Wow!

He's meaner than Dixon I know that!

jahndoh,

Maybe we should ease up on him. He may be having some sort of Dave Wannstedt/Todd Wade relapse episode. I hear those can be painful.

lol...keep quoting Kiper pal...him and youtube will keep you in the know

LOL

Fair enough Eddie...I allowed some frustration to show...

I guess I'm human...

By bigger he is heavier than Dixon.

Dixon was mean and nasty and tough. Wannstedt had him playing tackle but I remember him being most effective at Guard.

I'm not a he and I thought you guys were more mature than this but it looks like I was wrong. Instead of debating with me when I say something you disagree with like adults, you start insulting me like children. The insults weren't even necessary. By the way, I'm not a Jets fan, I'm a Miami Dolphins' fan. Been one since I was 7 years old. I'll leave now.

Omar,

Any chance POPPINGA makes this team?

Tommya - omar didnt't prove your point. You stated

One other reason I'm with BP on this:

Very few teams are going to want to give up anything for a guy that is going to poison their locker room by playing for a team when he really doesn't want to be there. Add to that JT wants the new team to give him big money and all he can offer them is a hope that he won't run out on them, or fall to pieces because of his age.

BP is good, but he aint good enough to trade a guy that doesn't want to play, is aging, and demanding big time money.

Posted by: Tommya | April 29, 2008 at 08:29 PM

All jacks comment say is that JT makes good money and would be tops on his team. Not that JT wants more money. So victory is still mine. lol

Go PopPINGA!!!!

Bye Michelle... sorry.

Dolphin Fan,
We will say this one last time. Jake Long is the starting LT of the Miami Dolphins. Bill knows this, Ireland knows this, Sparano knows this, sh*t even Vernon Carey knows he will be moving to RT. If you know anything about football and watched footage you know he can play LT. You read too many blogs with sensationlist hoping that Jake fell to their team. Think about how many tackles went in the first round and none were even close to Jake Long. He will need work against the speed rush but who better to teach him over the summer than JT? Relax and ask some relevant questions. Like this one, Omar why is Dolphin Fan really a lame Patriots fan posting on our blog? J/K but seriously drop the Jake Long is RT thing.

Moving Carey to RG would be a mistake. he's a better right tackle.

Here is some video of Long vs. Harvey...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5oYwvzzKVA&feature=related

Omar,
i have heard you say nearly a million times now that the Phins need JT on defense. The system that they are putting 2gether won't work w/o him
Can you please explain to me why because i am completely Lost in space on that.
can't you just replace him with a real Linebacker?

LoL!
