Do you know what are the biggest pain points faced by entrepreneurs while starting their new venture?
It is the lack of knowledge in legal, financial and company incorporation areas, especially if you are an online startup.
I am saying this from my personal example. The amount of frustration that I have been through over last couple of months cannot be described in words. Just getting the company incorporated was a big project in itself. And if by any chance the startup is getting invested from outside, the formalities and paperwork involved turns into a nightmare (I can vouch for it).
However, like I mentioned, problems are more due to lack of knowledge than anything else. Yes, there are plenty of resources online, but they are scattered all across the web. If you are a US/ UK based startup, you will find plenty of resources online that will really help you out in understanding the whole process in a streamlined fashion. In India though, the ball game is all together different. There is information available online including government websites, but is presented in a haphazard way. It will get you more confused than simplify your life.
To address this problem, Prabhu of Desistartups has launched a wiki for Indian startups. Desiwiki aims to become a comprehensive source of information for Indian Startups. I think it is an excellent idea and will help entrepreneurs who are just starting out. As of now, there are already some interesting articles that have been published, like Registering a Company / legal things you should know and intellectual property rights.
Success of any wiki depends on the community that it is able to generate and Desiwiki is no different. Based on my talks with Prabhu, it seems he has roped in number of bloggers and entrepreneurs who are willing to contribute to the wiki. If readers feel that they have something that will help Indian startups, go ahead and contribute.

Cool !! The sites still need a lot of content. But I like their notion.

Hi Arun,
Thanks for actively supporting desiwiki from day 1. Very encouraging indeed.
@Raseel,
I agree completely. We need a lot of content. We are actively contacting individual websites/bloggers/firms to provide their content without any sting attached. This process like everyone knows would take time. But like I keep saying, with the help of the community and people genuinely interested in contributing to the ecosystem, anything is achievable.
Thanks once again.
