A big commercial firm based in Dagupan City has discarded its colored plastic bags in favor of colorless, transparent plastic bags as its own way of helping the country minimize global warming which is now being blamed for climate change.
Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, president and chairman of the board of the retail giant CSI Group of Companies, said the transparent plastic bags can be re-used and recycled, whereas the colored plastic bags can not be re-used and re-cycled.
She told newsmen in an interview that her firm, which operates shopping malls, supermarkets and superstores in Dagupan, Pangasinan, La Union, Baguio and Ilocos Sur, adopted the technology she learned when she and another official, Councilor Librada Reyna, visited University of Sto. Tomas last year.
Both officials were told that colored plastic bags, which is used by all supermarkets of CSI, can not be recycled and re-used whereas the colorless, transparent plastic bags can be recycled and re-used.
Fernandez, a leading businesswoman in Northern Luzon, explained that her company is identified with its green color, seen in plastic bags it gives to customers.
However, she discarded these colored plastic bags in favor of colorless, transparent plastic bags which can be re-used and recycled as her company's contribution to the continuing drive to minimize pollution which is the reason for climate change.
