By
the Bohol StandardIt is good news for commuters riding tricycles. Last Friday, a resolution was adopted by the city council reverting the fares for tricycles at P6 for the first five (5) kilometers.
The resolution, sponsored by SP Committee chairman on public utilities Atty. Butchie Zamora, thereby lifted the provisional authority granted for tricycles to raise the fares from P6 to P7 at the height of the oil price increase middle of the year.
Tricycle operation is under the regulation of the local government units pursuant to the 1991 New Local Government Code of the Philippines (RA 7160).
The lifting however, came as bad news for tricycle drivers.
Though the oil prices have drastically gone down, but the cost of spare parts remained high. Their income had not also improved to cope up with the spiraling cost of basic commodities for their day-to-day living.
The implementation of the fare roll back for tricycles was not yet known when to officially take effect. As of yesterday, the minimum fare of P7 pesos was still the rate collected by tricycle drivers.
