A look at TV news channels of today
Two men are mowed down by a car as it is caught on camera by chance. Should this footage be shown? Should we worry about sentiments of people? Unfortunately, many of the people seeing this footage would have lost someone to a car accident. I saw one such person watching this news item. I could understand what was going through the mind of this particular relative.
This is the insensitive television news of today. The cameras were capturing a demolition drive when a car hit two engineers monitoring the demolition in south India. The attempted murder also got captured on the camera. The engineers have been seriously injured. The car driver and the car have not been traced despite the footage.
At what stage should the footage have been stopped? Should one channel go ahead and show the footage just because another channel is showing it. Can channels take an ethical stand and avoid showing the footage. These are some of the questions that the journalism fraternity as a whole should answer. What about the families of the two engineers who were being victimised. You could see the footage yourself to judge. This should be available at www.ibnlive.com website. If you feel strongly about such footage write against it.
