The Right Way To Do It

The Right Way To Do ItI have been intrigued this week by an email exchange between Colin Hansen and Tony Jones. Christianity Today was able to work out a deal to publish on its website a conversation between these gentlemen, who both come from vastly different areas on the evangelical landscape.

I am very leery of anyone, like Tony Jones, who is labeled Emergent. I tend to get in the flesh quite easily when I think about what this movement is doing to the church today. It seems to me that whenever they are questioned they delight in trying to make whoever is questioning them look like unenlightened idiots. One thing I will give them is that they are always willing to dialog, albeit in a way that is on their terms.

This dialog between Colin Hansen and Tony Jones is quite good. Colin Hansen represents the right way to debate. He does not belittle Jones, rather, he seeks to find some common ground to help Tony Jones see why so many people have a problem with the Emergent Church. Here are the links to the discussion. Check it out and learn as I have the right way to engage those with whom you disagree.

One Response to “The Right Way To Do It”

  1. Those were some very interesting, yet overall engaging and encouraging e-mails. A lot of my friends, especially missions related ones tend to camp out in the emergent tent so I have has some interesting conversations. It’s always my goal and most of theirs, to focus on the gospel and loving the gospel.
