New possibilities?
Happy Birthday to me. I turn 40 today. That's all I'm going to say about that...
Oh, except that I'm giving away a present in celebration! Leave a comment on this post and I'll choose a winner Saturday, September 20th (I will close the comments then). You'll have a choice between some handspun yarn, one of my spice mixes, or an embroidered something (I'll talk with you about the project). And please let me know which gift you're interested in!

Happy Birthday! You look great! :) If I won I would love some handspun yarn.

Belated Happy Birthday! Best wishes for a fulfilling and wonderous year.

Best wishes, Amber! I felt I really came into my own in my forties - more confident, self-aware, comfortable in my skin. This is a decade where all the possibilities are still open, and you have the strength and knowledge to make things happen. Enjoy them!
Love, Melissa

Happy belated birthday! The 40s have been good to me and as I look forward--really, truly look forward--to turning 50 next year, my wish for you is that you continue looking forward, too.

You look beautifully 40. I mean that as a genuine compliment. I hope you enjoyed your birthday and will for many years to come.
I tried to leave a comment on the post after this one but for some reason, I couldn't. I just wanted to say that by spending some time on yourself and making yourself happy, you will make your children happy too. Nothing effects children as much as a sad mama. I've been reading on and off here for a while and I think you're doing really well. Keep going, no life is ever perfect, we just have to do our best and forgive ourselves when we don't. Hugs.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMBER!!!
I hope you had a great day. Or at least a nice one.
I am catching up with all the blogs, for we have been sick so long here (just a flu, but a very long and itchy one). So, I am leaving this comment, of course, to see if I win win win one of those very special things you do. Yarn would be great. But embroidered would be perfect!

Happy Belated Birthday to Ewe!!!!
Amber,
I'm sorry I missed it! You are 40!! My aunt says that once you hit 40 you start accrueing Planetary Seniority, she's 84.:) You've touched me with your gentle perspective and inspired me to make things again. Here's to the next 40!! WOOHOO!!

Happy (belated) birthday.
My only story is that for the first half of my forties, when people asked my age, I would say 50. They'd always reply WOW, you don't LOOK 50. (Which, of course, I wasn't). But nearing 45, I started thinking... wow, what if they DO believe I'm 50!!! It's a tricky world out there.
If I win? Um, embroidery?

I hope you had a wonderful birthday. Each year, each decade holds new delights and new challenges. I am going to be 50 next June and am spending this year trying to figure a few things out and to enjoy the process. I got laid off on Monday and it was a shock so I am trying to jumpstart a few dreams rather than jump into something else with fear. Thanks you for sharing your journey with all your readers. It has been a true delight and inspiration.
Anything would be lovely but as a knitter I must request the handspun. Thanks

I am a day late, but I hope my wishes that you have a happy year being 40 are still valid.
I am now 42, but reading your post made me think of when I turned 40. I was going to give you a link so that you could read what I wrote that day, but the link is a mile long and I can not figure out how to make it shorter! Shucks, just go to my blog and read my July 6, 2006 post if you're interested!
Oh wait! I just remembered Tiny URL...hope this works! http://tinyurl.com/4pjlwc
Oh, and if I am entered in the drawing, handspun would be my choice.

Happy 40th gorgeous!!! I say 40 is going to be a great year for you. Things are finally coming together what with the job (congratulations!) moving into a house of your own, and starting life fresh.
If I was to win the drawing I would want some bit of your sweet embroidery.

Happy Birthday! I am turning 40 myself in January . . . gulp! One of my friends who has already passed that milestone says that I should make 40 "the year of me!" In other words, after years and years of worrying about the needs of all the other people in our lives, 40 should be the year that women focus on themselves a bit - on their health, their passions, their interests and goals. Thinking of it this way is making my own approaching milestone a bit easier to bear!
Lots of luck to you as you enter this next stage.
Best,
Kate in NY

Happy Birthday Amber! Life after 40 is actually very, very good. We know more about ourselves and care less about what other people think. Enjoy!

Happy birthday! Just remember, 40 is the new 30. (One of my students told me 30 is the new 20 when I turned 30. So I assume everything is bumped down accordingly.) Dana

Happy day!
My 40th is coming up in January. I haven't given it too much thought but something kind of gnaws at my gut when I think of it. You're taking it well - and wearing it well, I might add.
Cheers. Here's to many more.

You look amazing in that photograph. Did your daughter take it? The 40's are the best , most women have finished having babies , your children are sleeping through the night and are usually rational thinkers, you are still well away from menopause and the challenges it may bring , you have your youthful looks and a well planted healthy lifestyle. Enjoy the many fantastic years to come.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY and have an excellent day.

Happy Birthday! May your birthday wishes come true. And how generous to give a gift on the day when you normally receive gifts. If I get to pick one, I'd pick the embroidered item.

I'm actually looking forward to 40...looking at you, I see why.

Happy birthday, Amber! There ARE perks to growing older. With myself, I've found that the older I get, the less I worry what others think of me. That's a nice feeling! ;-)
You really are a beautiful woman, inside and out.
Oh, and I'd be thrilled with some of your handspun. :-)
