Early Termination Fees Going Bye-Bye?

bhp_equip_discounts.jpgHey, hey, hey ... Sprint Nextel was dealt a major blow in its early-termination-fee case when a California judge ruled it would have to pay $73 million. Bad news for Sprint ...

... but good news for us! The decision could bode poorly for the various trials that are taking place throughout the country, as well as the attempt by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to make wireless carriers exempt from these state court cases.

"This ruling sounds the death knell for the industry's petition seeking a preemption ruling from the FCC -- a ruling the industry has never been able to win in court," said Scott Bursor, an attorney representing the plaintiffs.

Termination fees are rarely clearly disclosed. Hopefully we'll see an end to this extortion in the telecom field. Vonage TOS requires a termination fee for two years, I mean seriously, that's a little crazy http://topratedvoip.blogspot.com/

I got charged 50 pounds by my provider for terminating a contract. The thing was though I didn't terminate it, I just moved flat which they considered a termination of the contract, despite the fact I wanted to carry on the exact same service and just take it with me to my new place of residence. It's taken a lot of phone calls, being passed from one person to another and having to write a letter of complaint to get my money refunded.

Finkelstein Thompson LLP is a law firm that represents consumers who have been harmed by large corporations’ unfair business practices. We are currently investigating cell phone, Internet, cable, and satellite service providers who charge large “Early Termination Fees” (“ETFs”) for discontinuing service without regard to the amount of time that is remaining on a service contract. If you have been charged and paid an Early Termination Fee, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund. If you would like to discuss your rights, please contact me at our toll-free number 877-800-1450 or by email at contact@finkelsteinthompson.com.
