Cell phones will replace the personal navigation device (PND) as the primary GPS device by 2011, according to the research firm iSuppli. The firm predicted that cell phones will then account for 36% of the GPS market, compared with 30% for PNDs, which today account for 50% of global navigational units sold.
The report also predicted that price drops among PNDs will lead to smaller manufacturers selling out to larger hardware companies over the next year or two. (Doesn't this happen in every gadget category?)
Reminds me how cell phones were going to replace digital cameras -- don't believe that has happened yet. But maybe GPS is a more easily stormed market ...

I am looking for a voip phone like T Mobile's because I live in the mountains a lot. I am looking for the communication dependability of the RIM devices before they lost the civil suit to HTC. I am looking for true GPS that Google can run, or by prescription for turn by turn instructions. I am looking for touch screen. I am looking for video conferencing (two people). I am looking for voice recognition that works. I am looking for Blue Tooth. It would be nice if it synced with a MACBookPro.
I love unlimited calling, internet and pictures on T Mobile for $10, and 1000 min for $39. I was the guy that got the ball rolling on Stan Sigmann's fine for the AT&T scandal, which California was first to fine him $12m, and he is no longer there. Which is why I am no longer with AT&T.
Being able to edit MS and other programs like open office is great, but not high on the list. I have an iPod, 10meg SLR, and toys like that so I do no need superb, memory burning capability.
What do you suggest?
