Santa Cruz rules! Every year we take a trip up there to surf, catch up with friends, check out the Coldwater Classic and just have a good time. For some reason, this was one of our best trips ever to the place. Maybe it was the gorgeous weather. Or the fun waves. Or the outstanding crew that we had. Music by: The Epsilons.

We rolled up to Pine Trees on Friday to check the waves before the event, but found nothing but flatness. With no swell in the forecast we were scrambling, trying to find a new contest site anywhere with a hint of waves. After all these attempts failed we were left thinking we’d have to postpone or cancel the event. However, mother nature had other plans and sent us some insane chest to head high waves with rippable conditions all day. Music by: Kandi Coded.

Well after a blustery day in New Jersey the day before, we were hoping to find some clean overhead surf in New York. Despite the buoy readings we rolled up to find knee high slop. Mother Nature however, had other plans for the VQS, and slowly but surely, the swell increased until perfect head high lefts were firing down the beach. With increasing swell, an awesome crowd, and a nuts day we got under way! Here's the rundown of how the day went down! Music by: Aloke.

On Saturday October 18th, the Jellyfish landed at Casino Pier, New Jersey. After having to cancel the week before due to flatness, Mother Nature threw us some solid wind swell mixed up by groundswell from a passing hurricane. The mix-up of swell created some fun peaky surf all weekend long. Despite the cold weather, the waves had competitors ready to sign up at the crack of dawn. Here's how it all went down. The first Goldfish event of the year kicked off in Central Cal. Despite the challenging conditions and cold water, the kids were as stoked as ever, screaming for more mayhem even after the final buzzer. The fierce competitors let no obstacle stand in their path, from the feeding frenzy circling the lineup, to the hurricane force winds; they battled it out to the end, each on the hunt for the key positioning needed to qualify for the VQS World Champs. With the remnants of Hurricane Ike strewn everywhere and the vibe of destruction hanging thick in the air, it was a toss-up as to whether or not we should run this years Bushfish event or postpone it. Instead of following what others would do and cancel the contest, we decided to really dig our heels in and throw one of the best events we’ve ever run with more free stuff than ever before.
