We all know that Beverly Hills 90210 is coming back. And now there are rumors swirling that actress Jennie Garth may be part of it. She played Kelly Taylor on the original series in the 1990s.Garth, who appeared on Dancing With the Stars last season, was recently cast in a lead role for a new CBS sitcom called My Best Friend's Girl. The show is about two guys -- best friends -- whose relationship becomes complicated when one of them begins dating the other's ex-wife. Garth was cast as the ex-wife.
But Garth reportedly left the show after a table read on Monday, before even shooting the pilot. Reuters is reporting that her departure from the show was a "mutual decision" between her and the producers. Sadly, Jennie Garth has been dealing with the recent death of her father, so maybe a sitcom isn't right for her right now. But, there's also word that Garth was being wooed by Rob Thomas (before he left the show) for reprising her role as Kelly Taylor on the new version on The CW.
I don't see anything wrong with returning to that role. Especially if it looks like this new 90210 has a little more staying power than that goofy sitcom (sorry, it sounded dumb).

I need to buy the 90210 dvds now. I didn't start watching 90210 until the last season, which I think Jennie Garth already left at that point, but I love her in the reruns of What I Like About You that have recently been airing, so I'd watch her in anything. I agree with you on the staying power of a drama over a sitcom, especially on a CBS where they only allow one night for comedy and 2 of the 3 hours of the night at that.

Having Jennie Garth on the new 90210 is a strategic move to lure back the original 90210-watchers who are in their late twenties/early thirties and trying not to feel so old.
It definitely reminds me of how the Canadian teen drama, Degrassi High, restarted ten/fifteen years later with Degrassi: The Next Generation with an original star returning as the mother of one of the junior high kids. Even though the new series starred junior high kids, the original star sucked this old tv watcher back in!
