Kate Hudson has joined the cast of the Weinstein Company's big screen version of "Nine," adding another Oscar nominee to the roster.

The Tony-winning Broadway favorite will be brought to film by Oscar nominated director Rob Marshall ("Chicago").

Based loosely on the Fellini classic "8 1/2," "Nine" was adapted by Oscar nominee Michael Tolkin ("The Player") and Oscar winner Anthony Minghella ("The English Patient"), with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston.

In addition to the Academy favorites behind-the-scenes, "Nine" stars Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis as world famous film director Guido Contini, who prepares his latest picture and balances the numerous women in his life. Those women will be played by Oscar winners Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren and Marion Cotillard, plus Oscar nominees Penelope Cruz and now Hudson.

"We are thrilled that Kate Hudson is joining this group of some of the most talented and creative actors in film and it will be an incredible experience for audiences to watch this cast work under the brilliant direction of Rob Marshall," Harvey Weinstein says in a statement. "Inspired by one of cinema's most profound auteurs, Minghella's dramatic writing, and Marshall's dynamic staging will provide the actors with a daring opportunity to showcase their artistic potential."

Marshall clarifies Hudson's role in the production, adding, "It's wonderful having Kate join this extraordinary cast! Her revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role of Stephanie, a fashion reporter from Vogue working in Italy. An exciting new song, written by our composer Maury Yeston, has been added for her as well."

Several key roles, including Saraghina, the prostitute from Guido's youth, remain uncast.

Hudson was most recently seen in the spring hit "Fool's Gold." The "Almost Famous" star has "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Bride Wars" upcoming.
