"The Dark Knight" may finally have been dethroned at the domestic box office, but the Batman sequel reclaimed the top spot overseas.

According to the industry trades, "The Dark Knight" took in an estimated $42.4 million at the foreign box office for the weekend closing Sunday, Aug. 17. That's bound to relieve some of the sting from "The Dark Knight" falling behind "Tropic Thunder" in The States.

Playing on 7,700 screens in 60 markets, "The Dark Knight" saw its cumulative foreign gross rise to $328.6 million, putting its worldwide total to roughly $800 million.

"The Dark Knight" moved back ahead of "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," the foreign champ for the two previous weeks. The "Mummy" film, a bit of a domestic disappointment as it struggles to reach $100 million, has already taken in a robust $196.6 million foreign after a $32.6 million weekend playing in 56 markets on 6,853 screens.

Third place foreign went to "Mamma Mia!" Now playing in 24 markets on 2,750 screens, the musical counterprogramming made $16.8 million, bringing its overseas total to $204.6.

Pixar's "Wall-E" made $13.8 million to bring its overseas total to $146.2 million, while "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" was fifth with $11.2 million, for a foreign total of $40.8 million.
