George Miller To Direct 'Justice League'
Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are unlikely to appear
Casting on the DC Comics franchise has reportedly already moved into preliminary stages with Warner Bros. hoping to have the film in front of cameras before a hypothetical strike and in theaters for the summer of 2009.
Variety speculates that the Kieran and Michele Mulroney-scripted "Justice League" movie will include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman, with the Green Lantern as a likely possibility. However, the trade adds that sources close to the project are saying that the big screen's most recent Caped Crusader and Man of Steel -- Christian Bale and Brandon Routh -- probably won't be reprising those roles.
The trade is also saying that while there had been initial rumors that Warner Bros. envisioned "Justice League" as an animated or motion capture experiment, it will now be live action.
The Justice League first premiered in 1960 and has produced a variety of animated offerings including the Cartoon Network's current "Justice League Unlimited."
Miller's most recent film was the penguin-tastic "Happy Feet," which won the animated Oscar and made $379 million worldwide for Warner Bros. His previous directing credits include "Mad Max" and "Babe: Pig in the City." He earned Oscar nominations for the original "Babe" screenplay and for the "Lorenzo's Oil" script.
