Casting: FOX fills 'Glee,' CBS populates 'Island'
FOX has placed a pair of Broadway veterans in the pilot for Glee, while a more familiar face has joined the cast of CBS' horror-drama Harper's Island.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele are joining Glee, which has been targeted for a March launch on FOX.
Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) is creating the hour-long comedy, which focuses on a Spanish teacher (Morrison) at an Ohio high school who also takes on the school's misbegotten glee club. Michele would be the club's star female singer. The trade says that each episode would include up to four musical numbers, which is bound to make it a natural pairing with American Idol come spring.
Morrison picked up a Tony nomination for The Light in the Piazza and has also been seen on the Great White Way in Hairspray and South Pacific.
Michele's Broadway credits include Spring Awakening and Ragtime.
Over on CBS, Harry Hamlin has replaced Bill Pullman in Harper's Island, an extended slasher drama about a destination wedding off the coast of Seattle that goes afoul when members of the wedding party start turning up dead.
Hamlin will play the womanizing uncle of the groom (Christopher Gorham). The trade says Pullman's appearance in the original presentation was a favor to producer/director Jon Turtletaub and that he was never expected to stay on for the series, expected to premiere at midseason.
A four-time Golden Globe nominee, Hamlin's credits include L.A. Law, Veronica Mars and, most recently, Dancing with the Stars.
I was excited about "Harper's Island" until now I read Harry Hamlin will be in it. Ugh
