Just in case "American Idol," "Nashville Star" and its own "Making the Band" and "America's Top Pop Group" aren't providing enough outlets for undiscovered musical talent, MTV is embarking on another competition show.

The cable channel is teaming up with "Making the Band" impresario Sean Combs and reality titan Mark Burnett for a show called "StarMaker," which aims to find the next "history-making superstars." MTV and Combs have been developing the show since last year, and with "Survivor" and "The Apprentice" producer Burnett on board, the show has been greenlit for a January premiere.

"'StarMaker' will open the door to the tremendous amount of talent out there just waiting to be discovered," Burnett says. "We've created a platform that will allow new and emerging artists a chance to showcase their talents to some of the industry's best."

The show will put aspiring solo artists through the usual paces of performing in front of an audience each week. Contestants will also live together, and in addition to their musical chops, they'll be judged on their stage presence and the offstage demands of stardom like dealing with paparazzi and the media.

Aside from becoming a "history-making superstar," there's no word yet on what the prize package will entail.
