Rumor Mill: September event, iTunes streaming
It’s Friday, which means that it’s time to round up the current crop of Apple rumors making the rounds.
September MacBook Updates – Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster published a research note speculating that Apple will hold a special event in early September to announce new iPods and MacBooks. Apple has held similar September events in Cupertino in 2006 and 2007 and their recent memo to resellers to stock up with iPods for four weeks seems to support the theory. Previous rumors suggest that the new MacBook will be clad in aluminum.
Streaming iTunes Libraries on iPhone – This one is probably my favorite rumor of the week because it effectively gives the iPhone an unlimited music capacity. According to an Apple patent application it works by streaming music from a desktop computer’s iTunes library to the iPhone. Think of it as the Remote application but instead of just being able to control the music on another computer’s iTunes library you can also listen to it. Obviously you’d have to be have permissions and firewalls appropriately configured but imagine streaming your iTunes library over 3G wherever you are. (Tip: AI)
