The best of CeBIT 2008: Day one

Another year, another gargantuan tech show in Hanover. Despite shrinking in size and popularity, Europe's largest IT event, CeBIT, continues to be a draw for new and exciting technology.

This year's event has already seen Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer make an appearance to discuss his company's planned acquisition of Yahoo, among other things. Microsoft's chief operating officer, Kevin Turner, was also around to discuss the the software maker's virtualisation push, with its upcoming Hyper-V technology, and shed some more light on the first service pack for Vista.

On the hardware front, PC maker Asus has unveiled the next iteration of its innovative Eee PC, which used to be Linux-only but now runs Windows and has a bigger screen and better resolution.

ZDNet.co.uk's CeBIT team is working hard to bring you all the latest news, emerging products and video from the show over the rest of the week. Stay tuned.
