ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7
New Look Kapersky False Alarm

REVIEW

[7/9/07 When we originally reviewed ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7, the product did not yet have a version for Vista. Check Point, the suite's maker, has recently introduced a release for that operating system.—editor]

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7 has a brand-new look, reflecting Check Point Software's acquisition of ZoneLabs in 2004. Antivirus protection is now licensed from Kaspersky rather than from Computer Associates, which also improves the product's spyware protection (previously a weak point). Finally, a new Auto-learn mode helps cut down the deluge of allow/deny pop-ups that often plague a new firewall installation. I put all of the new suite's modules through their paces, and they look very good overall.

Spec Data
  • Price as Tested: $69.95 Direct
  • Notes: $49.95 during an unspecified initial promotional period

Bottom Line

ZoneAlarm 7 blocks and removes spyware like a champ, though it had some initial glitches and can be very slow. New features reduce initial firewall confirmation pop-ups (and temporarily decrease security). It's a dandy suite, but Norton is still less obtrusive and more stable.

Pros

Best spyware-blocking app yet. Improved antivirus. Antispam blocked no valid mail in tests. Powerful, robust firewall. Provides identity-protection services and information.

Cons

Scan results awkward; sometimes incorrectly reports failure. Antispam seems to miss image spam. No support for Windows MCE or (for now) Vista.
