Karolina Muchova completes the field for the WTA Finals in Indian Wells.

The WTA announced today Karolina Muchova has qualified for the WTA Finals Indian Wells to confirm the star-studded singles field and set tennis’ ultimate stage for the world’s best athletes.

Muchova is the eighth and final singles qualifier for the preeminent championships in women’s sport, joining PIF WTA World No.1 Elena Rybakina, Indian Wells and Miami champion Aryna Sabalenka, Roland-Garros winner Mirra Andreeva, Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, American superstars Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula along with trailblazing mother Elina Svitolina at Indian Wells.

“Earning a place at the FAGE WTA Finals is an extraordinary achievement, and I can’t wait to welcome our eight singles players to Indian Wells,” said WTA Finals Tournament Director Garbiñe Muguruza. “This is the ultimate stage, where the best play the best. With its passionate fans and stunning desert backdrop, the Indian Wells’ Tennis Garden will be a fantastic setting to crown our champions.”

This is the second time Muchova, from the Czech Republic, has qualified for the WTA Finals however was unfortunately forced to withdraw from the event in 2023 due to injury.

The doubles teams of Hsieh Su-Wei & Jelena Ostapenko and Ellen Perez & Demi Schuurs have also today confirmed their qualification for the FAGE WTA Finals Indian Wells following impressive seasons on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz.

Grand Slam champions will lead Team USA’s charge in Delray Beach next month.

The 2025 Australian Open champion and world No. 21 Madison Keys, world No. 25 Ann Li, four-time Grand Slam doubles champion and world doubles No. 2 Taylor Townsend and world doubles No. 9 Nicole Melichar-Martinez will join Coco Gauff on the U.S. Billie Jean King Cup Team as it takes on Hungary in a Billie Jean King Cup Playoff November 21-22nd at the Delray Beach Tennis Center.

Today’s announcement comes two weeks after Gauff was named to Team USA.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Gauff will anchor the U.S. Billie Jean King Cup Team at the Delray Beach Tennis Center. It’s a homecoming weekend for Gauff, who grew up in Delray Beach and still often trains in her hometown.

The Hungarian team has nominated world singles No. 75 Ana Bondar, No. 153 Dalma Galfi, No. 445 Amarissa Toth, doubles No. 60 Fanny Stollar and doubles No. 187 Adrienn Nagy.

The best-of-five match series will be played over Saturday and Sunday, with the winner returning to the Qualifying pool and having the chance to compete for the BJK Cup championship in 2027.

Matches will start at 1:30 p.m. ET both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s schedule will feature two singles matches between each country’s top two nominated players. The first nation between the USA and Hungary to win three out of those five matches wins the Playoff, with an amended Sunday schedule possible if either nation clinches victory in the third or fourth match of the weekend. Tennis Channel will carry coverage in the U.S.

Captains may make up to three changes to their nominated rosters by November 20. The U.S. is captained by International Tennis Hall of Famer and U.S. Billie Jean Cup legend Lindsay Davenport, who captained the American side to the BJK Cup final in 2025. Hungary is captained by Kornel Bardoczky.

Here’s the USTA’s news release on the American squad:

Gauff, 22, led the U.S. Billie Jean King Cup team to a 4-0 sweep of Austria the last time the U.S. women played in her native Delray Beach, in 2023. Since then, she’s won both the US Open and French Open titles and has gone 47-15 in singles this year, including semifinal appearances at both the US Open and Wimbledon.

Keys, 31, is coming off a year in which she won her 11th career WTA title and went 35-15 in singles. The 2025 Australian Open singles champion has represented the U.S. in Billie Jean King Cup eight times since debuting in 2014. This would mark her competitive debut at the Delray Beach Tennis Center.

Li, 26, is ranked a career-high No. 25 in singles on the heels of beating Aryna Sabalenka to reach the W1000 quarterfinals in Wuhan, China, last week. A Philadelphia-area native, Li won her second career WTA singles title last year on hard courts in Guangzhou before breaking into the Top 30 for the first time this year. This is her debut Billie Jean King Cup nomination. 

Townsend, 30, is ranked No. 2 in doubles and has a 39-4 doubles record in 2026. This year she also completed the doubles Career Grand Slam by winning the French Open and US Open. Townsend is 6-2 all-time in Billie Jean King Cup competition since debuting in 2015.

Melichar-Martinez, 33, is ranked No. 9 in doubles and has won two of her 20 career doubles titles in 2026. She represented the U.S. in its Billie Jean King Cup Qualifying competition earlier this year in Belgium and won, partnering with Caty McNally.

Emotional ravaging from the ongoing war in Ukraine changed Elina Svitolina’s perspective on life.

Russia’s attack on Ukraine compelled Svitolina to re-assess her life, but the war wasn’t the primary reason for her split from husband Gael Monfils, Svitolina said today.

The popular couple stunned the tennis world yesterday as Svitolina announced the end of their five-year marriage on social media. That announcement also prompted wide-spread speculation on causes that ended the beloved couple’s love story.

Today, Svitolina clarified the cause for the couple’s split.

Former world No. 3 Svitolina said Russia’s unprovoked attack on her home country of Ukraine four-and-a-half years ago prompted her to re-examine her life. Svitolina said she had an epiphany: “I didn’t want to keep living a life where I wasn’t truly happy.”

“When you’ve been living through the reality of war for more than 4.5 years, experiencing so many different situations, emotions, and difficult moments, you naturally start seeing life differently,” Svitolina posted on Instagram today. “Your perspective changes, your values and priorities shift, and you begin to understand what you truly want out of life.

“At some point, I simply realized that I didn’t want to keep living a life where I wasn’t truly happy. And believe me, coming to this decision was anything but easy.”

Svitolina and Monfils were together as a couple for about seven years. The pair got engaged on April 3rd, 2021 and wed in a lavender-colored wedding ceremony on July 16th, 2021. Svitolina gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Skai, on October 15th, 2022.

Today, the 32-year-old Ukrainian suggested she wrote a follow-up post after reading some on social media speculate infidelity may have contributed to the break-up.

Svitolina reiterated her love for Monfils and noted it’s not always possible to provide all of the personal details of a painful split.

“I love and respect my husband very much. And I will always love and appreciate him for the person he is,” Svitolina posted on Instagram. “That’s exactly why it was so important for me to be honest, both with him and with myself.

“It’s not always possible to explain everything behind such personal and difficult decisions in a single post. And honestly, some things are simply too personal to share publicly. That was and is my view on announcing the end of our marriage but as some of you saw, Gael’s career ended abruptly after he made the decision to stop based on our situation. Unfortunately he had many accusations thrown at him and he didn’t deserve that, so we jointly released a statement.

“I just hope this helps you understand a little better what I was trying to say but please be kind and understanding, this is incredibly tough for us both right now.”

The ongoing war in Ukraine played a part in ending the marriage of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.

The 32-year-old Svitolina announced the end of her five-year marriage to Monfils in an Instagram post today. The break-up ends the love story of one tennis’ most popular and beloved couples.

“Gaël has loved me through my greatest joys and my darkest moments, and I have loved him with all my heart,” Svitolina posted on Instagram. “Together, we built a beautiful life, and we were given the most precious gift of all, our daughter, Skai.

“Skai will always come first. Our marriage is ending, but our family is not. We will always be her parents, side by side, at every step of her life.”

The announcement comes after the ITIA confirmed the 40-year-old Monfils officially retired from pro tennis on October 5th. Monfils had been scheduled to play both Lyon and the Rolex Paris Masters, but instead officially retired earlier this month while coping with the dissolution of his marriage.

In her Instagram post, Svitolina cited the severe emotional and mental stress she’s endured in recent years as her native Ukraine remains under attack from Russia, which attacked its neighboring nation in February of 2022. Svitolina, who has returned to Ukraine and conducted fundraisers to aid the people of her homeland, pulled the plug on her 2025 season in October to take a mental health break.

Svitolina suggests the couple’s relationship was a casualty of the devastating war.

“Everyone knows how much Ukraine means to me. What I have rarely spoken about is what the war has done to me inside,” Svitolina said. “Last year, I told you I needed to step away from the court because I wasn’t in the right emotional space. Today, I want to open up a little more. What you didn’t see were the sleepless nights, the doubts, and the feeling of slowly losing myself.

“Gaël saw all of it. He never let go of my hand. We fought through this together for a long time, with everything we had. But some battles happen deep inside you, and no amount of love from someone else can win them for you.”

Elina Svitolina has struck another winning chord for working moms.

The 33-year-old Ukrainian is the first mother to qualify for the season-ending WTA Finals since Hall of Famer Kim Clijsters back in 2010.

Former world No. 3 Svitolina will make her fourth appearance at the WTA Finals. Svitolina staved off Sloane Stephens to capture the 2018 WTA Finals in Singapore and was runner-up to Ash Barty in the 2019 WTA Finals title match in Shenzhen.

The WTA Finals are set for November 7-14th at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Lawn lord Roger Federer captured eight Wimbledon championships.

Turns out, the Swiss stylist is skilled playing on water as well.

Hall of Famer Federer played on a floating tennis court at a new Chinese edition of the global “On Thanks for Playing” series in Shenzhen. Designed to celebrate the sport’s grassroots communities, the promotional activation featured On ambassador and co-owner Federer hitting on a one-of-a-kind floating tennis court installed on the waters of Shenzhen Talent Park.

In front of thousands of spectators gathered along the waterfront, Federer watched emotional fan films, capturing heartfelt personal stories from players and fans across China.

After watching the films, Federer stepped onto the court to play with 18-year-old Yunnan player Fa Wang – who went viral as the “Basket-carrying Tennis Teen” at age 14 – alongside standout local juniors Xinya Xiao, Siyan Jiang & Zixi Yang.

The Federer exhibition event was watched by over 9.6 million people on a livestream, the evening culminated in a breathtaking 2,000-drone aerial light installation over the Shenzhen skyline, depicting the journey of a tennis dream originating in Basel, traveling across the globe, and igniting the skies above Shenzhen with the shared mantra: Dream On.

“When I was growing up as a kid in Basel, tennis was also just an incredible dream and a wooden racquet for me,” Federer said. “Stepping onto the floating court today in Shenzhen and rallying with these young players reminds me why this sport is so magical.

Several Chinese fans exhibited emotional reactions on meeting Federer, who signed autographs and took selfies with fans.

Carlos Alcaraz’s fall swing takes him to Vienna next.

The youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam has accepted a wild card into Vienna, set for October 26-November 1st. The tournament announced Alcaraz’s wild card addition on social media today.

Alcaraz’s Vienna opener is set for Tuesday, October 27th, tournament organizers announced.

Recent Vienna champions Jannik Sinner (2023 and 2025) and Jack Draper (2024) are both out for the rest of the season recovering from injuries.

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz joins a Vienna field that features US Open champion and 2021 Vienna title holder Alexander Zverev, 2022 champion Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli and Alex de Minaur.

In his last Vienna appearance, an 18-year-old Alcaraz defeated Daniel Evans, Matteo Berrettini and former No. 1 Andy Murray in succession to reach the semifinals where he lost to Zverev, 6-3, 6-3.

Pegula and Gauff have each qualified for the WTA Finals at Indian Wells, set for November 8-15th, the WTA announced today.

The American pair will each make their fifth consecutive appearance at the season-ending tournament.

They join world No. 1 Elena Rybakina, No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva and Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova in qualifying for the eight-player, season-ending event. Two final singles spots remain.

The 2024 WTA Finals champion Gauff pulled out of this week’s Wuhan Open after losing to Belgian Elise Mertens in Beijing. Pegula, a five-time finalist this season, reached the WTA Finals title match in 2023.

The WTA Finals Indian Wells field includes eight singles players and eight doubles teams from the PIF Race to the WTA Finals Leaderboard. The top seven in each race qualify automatically. The eighth spot goes to the highest-ranked Grand Slam champion, singles player or doubles team, ranked from No. 8 to No. 20 who has not already qualified.

Lyon lost Big Foe, but gained a French Open finalist replacement.

Frances Tiafoe has withdrawn from Lyon, while recovering from a leg injury.

Roland Garros runner up Flavio Cobolli has replaced Tiafoe in the field for the ATP 250 tournament set for October 19-25th.

Currently, Tiafoe holds down the sixth spot in the ATP Race to Turin with 3,380 points. However, four men—Arthur Fils, Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic—are all within striking distance of Tiafoe. Beijing champion Djokovic, currently in 10th position in the ATP Race to Turin, trails Tiafoe by 540 points.

The Top eight finishers in the Race qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals. Reigning champion Jannik Sinner will not defend his Turin title. The world No. 1 pulled the plug on his season to recover from a nagging right knee injury.

“We wish a speedy recovery to Frances Tiafoe,” tournament organizers said in a statement on social media.

Two-time defending champion Ugo Humbert, one of seven Frenchman to raise the Lyon title trophy, leads the field.

Lorenzo Musetti, Tommy Paul and Brandon Nakashima are all scheduled to play Lyon. Both French superstar Gael Monfils and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka are scheduled to make their final Lyon appearances next week.

The ATP 2026 season will go down as the year of Alexander Zverev.

The 29-year-old Zverev made history today officially clinching the year-end world No. 1 ranking to become the first German man to secure the season-ending top spot. It is the first time Zverev, an eight-time, year-end Top 10 player, rises to No. 1.

Zverev, who joins Boris Becker as the second German to rise to No. 1, is also the oldest man to seal the year-end top spot.

“It’s been a fantastic season for me winning in Paris and New York and knowing that I will finish the year on top of the rankings is just a dream come true,” Zverev said. “So much work and effort have been put into achieving this goal, especially after coming back from the ankle injury.

“I look forward to finishing the season in style.”

Two-time major champion Zverev will be 29 years, 217 days old on the date of the year-end ATP Rankings, which is November 23rd. Zverev he will be three days older than Andre Agassi in 1999 (29 years, 214 days) and 20 days older than Andy Murray (29 years, 197 days), when the Briton dramatically clinched the 2016 ATP year-end No. 1.

Belgian Zizou Bergs upset world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in Shanghai today, which clinched Zverev’s rise past current No. 1 Jannik Sinner to the top spot. Sinner, who has been sidelined with a right knee injury since successfully defending Wimbledon with a four-set win over Zverev, was the 2024 year-end No. 1. Alcaraz finished as year-end No. 1 in both 2022 and 2025.

It’s been a transformative season for Zverev, who bounced back from a gut-wreching Australian Open semifinal loss to Alcaraz in January to deliver the best season of his career.

A courageous Alcaraz overcame apparent mid-match cramping, twice vomited into his towel, rallied from 3-5 down in the final set and reeled off four games in a row fending off Zverev 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5 in a mind-blowing Melbourne marathon semifinal.

Undaunted, Zverev came back to beat Flavio Cobolli in the French Open final and capture his maiden major crown at Roland Garros in June before bowing in the Wimbledon final to Sinner. Zverev fended off Ben Shelton to win his second title of the season at the US Open.

Former Olympic gold-medal champion Zverev joins Alcaraz, Sinner and Grand Slam king Novak Djokovic, an eight-time year-end No. 1 champion, as the fourth active man to hold the ATP season-ending top spot.

“Finishing the season as year-end No. 1 is the ultimate achievement in our sport,” ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said. “Congratulations to Sascha, who became just the 20th player to do so. For a decade, he has consistently been one of the best players in the world.

Grand Slam champions will return to Indian Wells next month for their WTA Finals debut.

Reigning Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva and Wimbledon winner Linda Noskova have both qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals set for November 8-15th at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

An Indian Wells semifinalist last March, Noskova’s qualification continues Czechia’s success qualifying for the WTA Finals. At least one Czech woman has contested 13 of the last 15 WTA Finals.

The 2025 Indian Wells champion Andreeva captured her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros last June.

The 19-year-old Andreeva qualified for the 2025 WTA Finals in doubles alongside partner Diana Shnaider. This will be Andreeva’s WTA Finals singles debut.

The 21-year-old Noskova and Andreeva join world No. 1 Elena Rybakina and No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka as the first four qualifiers for the eight-player singles field.

Last fall, Rybakina defeated Sabalenka to win the WTA Finals championship.

Taylor Fritz will play for a historic third championship at the 2027 Delray Beach.

The Delray Beach Open announced today that two-time champion Fritz will return for the 35th anniversary of the ATP 250 tournament set for February 12-21, 2027.

Fritz, the 2023-24 champion, is looking to become the first three-time champion in Delray Beach Open history. Tickets are available at DelrayBeachOpen.com. 

“Delray is always a special week for me, and I’m excited to be back for the 35th anniversary,” Fritz said. “I’ve had some incredible moments here, and I’m ready to make some more in 2027.”

So far in 2026, Fritz reached four finals (Dallas, Stuttgart, Halle and Washington), winning the ATP 500 in Washington, D.C., in August for his 11th career title. The world No. 12 also made a run to the Wimbledon quarterfinals. 

The 28-year-old American has won back-to-back Delray Beach Open titles in 2023 and 2024, becoming just the second player in history to successfully defend his crown (after Jason Stoltenberg in 1996-97). En route to the trophy in 2024, Fritz became one of seven champions to win without dropping a set. 

The 2024 US Open finalist will be making his ninth appearance in Delray Beach.

Delray Beach has historically provided a veritable home-court advantage for the USA in international team tennis competition. The U.S. Billie Jean King Cup team is 4-0 all-time when competing at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, the last such victory coming in 2023, when Gauff and Jessica Pegula led a sweep of Austria in front of near sell-out crowds.

Jannik Sinner has closed the curtain on his 2026 season.

World No. 1 Sinner announced today he’s ended his season to continue treatment on his cranky right knee.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said in an Instagram post today. “The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different.

“But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career. I will do everything possible to get back 100 percent. I thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon again on court.”

Two-time Wimbledon winner Sinner has not played a match since he defeated Alexander Zverev in four sets to successfully defend Wimbledon last July.

Sinner, who served a three-month suspension in spring of 2025 to settle WADA’s appeal of his positive test for the banned substance clostebol, is currently coping with his longest absence from the Tour in his career.

Sinner, who has posted a 44-3 record with six tournament titles in 2026, will almost certainly lose the No. 1 ranking to world No. 2 Alexander Zverev. Sinner will be unable to defend 3,000 ranking points over the rest of the fall season as defending champion in Vienna (500 points), Paris (1,000 points) and the ATP Finals in Turin (1,500 points), opening the door for reigning Roland Garros and US Open champion Zverev to secure the top spot for the first time.

Champions convened on court to celebrate the Rafa Nadal Academy’s 10th anniversary.

Twenty-two time Grand Slam champion Rafa Nadal pumped up the party leading Team Rafa Nadal to a 4-3 win over Team Andy Murray at the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam staged at the Academy’s stadium court in Manacor, Mallorca.

The King of Clay looked energized in the exhibition event that came 683 days after Nadal’s final Tour-level match, a November 2024 loss to Botic van de Zandschulp in Davis Cup play.

Team Rafa Nadal, captained by Nadal and featuring Carlos Moyà, David Ferrer and Richard Gasquet, was level with Team Andy Murray at 3-3, sending the contest into a decisive tie break, which was ultimately won by Team Nadal.

Two-time Olympic gold-medal champion Andy Murray looked extremely fit leading his team that starred Marat Safin, Dominic Thiem and Fabio Fognini.

The celebration also provided an opportunity to look back on the journey a decade in the making.

The Rafa Nadal Academy officially opened on October 19th, 2016, at an event attended by Roger Federer, among other guests.

Ten years later, the project has established itself as an international centre for sporting and academic development and has taken its methodology around the world. Today, the Rafa Nadal Academy has a presence in Kuwait, Costa Mujeres, Punta Cana, Greece, Egypt, Marbella and Hong Kong, with Brazil set to follow in 2027 and Lombok (Indonesia) in 2028.

The Rafa Nadal Academy Slam took centre stage on a day designed to celebrate ten years of tennis, education and values. The event revived an indelible image: Rafa Nadal with a racket in his hand once again, competing in Manacor and sharing the court with players who have been part of his story and with different generations of tennis stars.

But the celebrations did not end with match point.

After the matches, the fans who packed the stands of the Rafa Nadal Academy’s Centre Court enjoyed a performance by David Bisbal, who provided the musical finale to a memorable and festive anniversary day.

A Spanish Armada aims to make a splash at the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam today.

David Ferrer and Carlos Moyà have joined Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet on the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s squad for the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam, set for Saturday, October 3rd at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Mallorca.

Team Nadal will take on Team Murray, featuring Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem, Marat Safin and Fabio Fognini, in the doubles exhibition event as part of the Academy’s 10th Anniversary celebrations.

The addition of Ferrer and Moyà will bring three of the leading figures from a generation that defined an era in Spanish tennis back together on court. Rafa Nadal, David Ferrer and Carlos Moyà will once again play on the same team, rekindling the spirit of the Spanish Armada that enjoyed some of the greatest successes in the country’s tennis history, particularly in the Davis Cup.

Ferrer and Nadal shared countless moments on and off the court for almost two decades. The Alicante native was one of the key members of the Spanish team that won the Davis Cup in 2008, 2009 and 2011, and he currently serves as captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. At the 2024 Finals in Malaga, it was Ferrer who captained the team in Rafa Nadal’s final professional appearance.

Throughout his career, David Ferrer reached World No. 3 in the ATP Rankings and won 27 titles, including the 2012 Paris Masters 1000. He was also runner-up at Roland Garros in 2013 and the ATP Finals in 2007, establishing himself as one of the most consistent Spanish players of his generation.

Carlos Moyà, meanwhile, was the first Spanish player to reach World No. 1 in the ATP Rankings, won 20 titles and lifted the Roland Garros trophy in 1998. Moyà and Nadal were also part of the Spanish team that won the 2004 Davis Cup in Seville, one of the great milestones in the recent history of Spanish tennis.

Moyà and Nadal’s careers have been closely connected for many years. After sharing the same generation and playing together in the Davis Cup, the Mallorcan joined Rafa Nadal’s coaching team at the end of 2016, ahead of the start of the 2017 season, and is also part of the Rafa Nadal Academy’s sporting project.
