Coco Gauff took a walkover into the Toronto semifinals tonight.

A hip injury forced Belinda Bencic, Gauff’s scheduled quarterfinal opponent, to withdraw from the National Bank Open.

The 2015 tournament champion Bencic beat Washington, DC champion Alexandrea Eala 6-4, 6-0 to return to the quarterfinals.

Former Olympic gold-medal champion Bencic played that match with taping wrapping her leg.

“I am really sorry to not be able to compete tonight,” Bencic said in a statement. “This is amazing tournament, and I was really looking forward to playing in front of the great fans here in Toronto.

“I tried everything possible to be ready for tonight. Looking forward to being back in Toronto next time.”

The fourth-seeded Gauff advanced to her maiden Toronto semifinal.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Gauff will face either four-time major champion Naomi Osaka or reigning Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina for a spot in the final.

New Yorkers can taste the US Open for free next week.

And it will melt in your mouth.

The USTA today announced a series of promotional activities aimed at bringing the 2026 US Open to New Yorkers across all five boroughs.

Given scorching summer conditions, New Yorkers should be pleased to see the US Open Ice Cream truck roll into public park courts next week dispensing free ice cream as well as other US Open surprises free of charge.

The ice cream truck will visit public park tennis courts in each of the five boroughs August 17-21 and serve up chocolate and vanilla soft-serve, ice pops and other surprises. The full schedule is below:

The US Open Experience at Hudson Yards starts on Sunday, August 30th, the same day US Open main-draw play begins at Flushing Meadows and will bring the game directly to fans.

Hudson Yards will host a FREE, weeklong public activation designed to give fans the opportunity to experience the energy of the US Open against the backdrop of one of New York City’s most iconic public spaces, Hudson Yards.

“Fans of all ages can do everything from play Red Ball tennis on two 40-foot sport courts, play tennis-themed video games in titles like Fortnite and Roblox, experience what it’s like to walk out of the player tunnel into Arthur Ashe Stadium,” the USTA said in a statement. “Sip on the Grey Goose Honey Deuce cocktail, shop official merch and watch ESPN’s coverage of the US Open on the big screen.”

Open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the US Open Experience at Hudson Yards offers a variety of activities including:

• Open Red-Ball Tennis Courts, where visitors can pick up a racquet and experience the benefits of playing the world’s healthiest sport, including through specially curated programming, offered throughout the week on two, 40-foot-by-20-foot sport courts, with equipment provided by Wilson.
• Advantage Arena, the US Open’s premier gaming destination, where fans of all ages can put themselves at the ultimate intersection of world-class tennis and interactive digital gaming. Fans can step directly into the action with exclusive, tennis-themed gameplay across Roblox, Fortnite, Tennis Clash, and TIEBREAK – Grand Slam Edition.
• Player Tunnel and Champions’ Photo Experience, recreating the iconic entrance players make before walking out to thousands of fans inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, and then the ultimate opportunity for fans to strike a pose as if they’ve just been crowned US Open champion.

Jannik Sinner’s North American hard-court swing shrunk again today.

World No. 1 Sinner withdrew from the Cincinnati Open today citing a right knee injury. It’s the second straight ATP Masters 1000 withdrawal for Sinner, who previously pulled out of Montreal.

“After consulting my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I am forced to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,” Sinner said in a statement. “My right knee was hurting and, even though we worked hard with my medical team, I have to admit that I’m not ready to play competitively yet.

“I am very disappointed that I will not be able to play in Cincinnati and wish Bob [Moran], and his entire team a great and successful tournament. I can’t wait to come back next year and I’m now focusing on my preparation for the US Open.” 

US Open main-draw action starts on Sunday, August 30th.

Sinner, who swept the 2024 Cincinnati and US Open championships in succession, is 13-1 in his last 14 Flushing Meadows matches.

The 24-year-old Italian has not played since his four-set win over Alexander Zverev in last month’s Wimbledon final as he nurses a nagging right knee issue.

Sinner, the 2025 Cincinnati finalist, joins 2025 Cincinnati champion Carlos Alcaraz in pulling out of the Cincinnati Open.

Reigning US Open champion Alcaraz is continuing his recovery from a right wrist injury that has sidelined him more than 115 days, since his last match at the Barcelona Open in April.

Australian Open champion Alcaraz and Sinner, who has posted a 44-3 record this season, are both trying to give themselves maximum recovery time for what could be a physical and frenetic Flushing Meadows fortnight. New York City has been gripped by sweltering conditions this month, which will pose another physical test should the heat and humidity persist for the US Open.

The question is: Will Sinner and Alcaraz be able to post in New York City?

US Open Fan Week just got a big boost from fan favorites.

Amanda Anisimova, the 2025 US Open finalist, Madrid champion Marta Kostyuk, and rising men’s stars Arthur Fils and Alex Michelsen will complete the roster of players taking to the court for the Stars of the Open exhibition event.

The US Open exhibition event is set for Thursday, August 27th, at 6 p.m. inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The four players join Washington, DC Champion Alex Eala, Joao Fonseca, Iva Jovic and Learner Tien for the fan-favorite exhibition night. The exhibition will feature four, one-set matches, in the following order:

Amanda Anisimova vs. Marta Kostyuk
Joao Fonseca vs. Learner Tien
Alex Eala vs. Iva Jovic
Arthur Fils vs. Alex Michelsen

Stars of the Open will be televised on ESPN+ in the U.S., and distributed by US Open international broadcasters (to be announced).

A portion of the proceeds of Stars will benefit the USTA Foundation, the national charitable arm of the USTA. The Foundation supports the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network, a nationwide group of more than 270 organizations that use tennis to help young people from under-resourced communities succeed in life.

Sliderman will join Spider-Man at this month’s US Open.

Gael Monfils, affectionately nicknamed Sliderman for his acrobatic flights on court, has been given a wild card into the 2026 US Open main draw, the French Tennis Federation announced.

It will be Monfils’ 18th US Open appearance, and his wild card announcement comes a day after the USTA announced its Spider-Man collectible comic book giveaway.

Former world No. 91 Léolia Jeanjean has been issued a US Open wild card into the women’s main draw. Under a reciprocal agreement, the USTA grants the French Tennis Federation a pair of US Open wild cards in exchange for two wild cards for American players into Roland Garros.

The 39-year-old Monfils, a wildly popular player in New York City, will make this his last US Open dance. Monfils, who announced he will retire at the conclusion of the 2026 season, has enjoyed success at the Flushing Meadows major.

n 2016, Monfils scored straight-sets wins over Nicolas Almagro, Marcos Baghdatis and Lucas Pouille to reach the US Open semifinals where he lost to Novak Djokovic. It was one of two Grand Slam semifinals Monfils has made in his career. Three years later, Monfils advanced to the US Open quarterfinal suffering a gut-wrenching 7-6(5) in the fifth-set loss to Matteo Berrettini.

Devoted Flushing Meadows fans will recall Monfils building a two-set lead over Roger Federer in an electrifying 2014 US Open quarterfinal before the Swiss Maestro rallied for a pulsating five-set victory. In that clash, Monfils, chugging Coca-Cola on changeovers, hit some spectacular flying forehands and dueled 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer in a shot-making festival. A reminder of that magical night here:

Now ranked No. 347, Monfils made his US Open debut at the 2005 US Open.

In a sweltering five-set clash on an outer court, Monfils fell to a talented, young world No. 97 named Novak Djokovic, 7-5, in the fifth set.
