Nir Eyal wrote the book on habit forming technology, called “Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products”. In this interview, we talk about how he was able to change his own everyday habits in order to pursue more meaningful work and living. He provides a few awesome hacks for making small changes and changing your own habits as well.

Show Notes:

My top three podcasts: Invisible Office Hours, Portfolio Life, and The Lede.

Instead of focusing on the goal of writing a book, Nir focused on sitting down for 45 minutes every day in order to build a habit of writing. The book came naturally after he sorted that habit out.

Setting goals can cripple your progress, especially if you have to do creative work, or seek to find answers to questions you don’t have answers to yet.

Focus on MEA (Minimum Enjoyable Action), in order to start building better habits.

Getting your physical body in order, allows your your mind to function better, and builds a foundation for healthy habits for life.

Using a simple $5 timer from Home Depot could just save your marriage :)

To check out Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, here is the book, and theaudiobook.
