China Eastern to place large Airbus A320neo-order

In a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange on 25 March 2023, China Eastern Airlines announced its intention to place large order for the Airbus A320neo-family.

According to the filing, the order is for 101 additional aircraft. Deliveries are expected to take place in batches between 2028 and 2032. The exact breakdown per type is currently unknown. Before this order, China Eastern Airlines had open orders with Airbus for seventeen A320neos and 41 A321neos.

Today, the airline is operating a fleet of 31 A319s, 136 A320s, 121 A320neos, 74 A321s, 27 A321neos, 30 A330-200s, 26 A330-300s, 20 A350-900s, 36 B737-700s, 100 B737-800s, five B737-8s, 20 B777-300ERs, seven B787-9s, 31 C909s, and fourteen C919s.

Subsidiary China Eastern Yunnan Airlines is flying with 34 B737-700s, 35 B737-800s, three B737-8s, and three B787-9s.

AerCap places order for 100 additional Airbus A320neo Family aircraft

Toulouse, France, 18 March 2026 – AerCap Holdings N.V. (“AerCap”) has signed a firm order with Airbus for 23 A320neo and 77 A321neo aircraft. This transaction underscores AerCap’s strategy of investing in the world's most in-demand, fuel-efficient technology to meet the long-term requirements of its global airline customer base.

“This order for 100 A320neo Family aircraft reflects our strong belief in the long-term demand for these highly efficient aircraft and will help meet the continued demand we see from our customers for both growth and replacement needs,” said Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap. The A320 Family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft, having won more than 19,000 orders globally. The Family includes the largest member, the A321neo, offering unparalleled range and performance. The Family offers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, while maximising passenger comfort with one of the widest single-aisle cabins in the sky.

As with all Airbus aircraft, the A320 Family is able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting to have its aircraft up to 100% SAF capable by 2030.

Atlas Air Worldwide becomes Airbus’ largest A350F freighter customer with an order for 20 aircraft

Toulouse, France, 16 March 2026 – Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (“Atlas”), a global leader in airfreight logistics based in the United States in New York, has placed a landmark firm order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters. The order is the largest ever placed for the latest generation fuel efficient A350F and makes Atlas the biggest customer of the type.

The A350F features the largest main deck cargo door in the industry, with fuselage length and capacity optimised around the industry’s standard pallets and containers. Over 70% of the airframe is made of advanced materials, resulting in a 46 tonne lighter take-off weight than the competing derivative. The A350F is also the only freighter aircraft that will fully meet ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ emissions standards, coming into effect in 2027.

Delta firms Airbus A321neo options

On 27 February 2026, Delta Air Lines announced it has firmed-up options for the Airbus A321neo. In total, the airline exercised all of its remaining 34 options it held but also secured 36 new options. Deliveries of the additional A321neos are to begin in 2029.

With this latest order, Delta now has placed firm orders for 189 A321neos, making it the largest scale type in its fleet. It's also the third large order the airline announced this year, having previously ordered 30 B787-10s (with 30 options) and sixteen A330-900s and fifteen A350-900s.

Delta Air Lines took delivery of its first A321neo on 23 March 2022. Since then, 91 more have so far followed.

Delta continues fleet renewal with additional narrowbody aircraft with order for 34 Airbus A321neo's

Delta Air Lines is advancing its long-term fleet modernization strategy by exercising options for 34 additional Airbus A321neo aircraft, reinforcing the A321neo’s role as a pillar of Delta’s next generation narrowbody fleet.

Deliveries from this order are scheduled to arrive in Delta’s fleet beginning in 2029.

"The A321neo has proven to be an exceptional aircraft for Delta, delivering industry-leading efficiency while offering the premium experience our customers value,” said Kristen Bojko, Delta’s vice president of Fleet. “By exercising these options, we’re continuing to invest in a fleet that improves our cost structure, supports our sustainability goals and gives us powerful flexibility to serve our customers well into the next decade.”

With this transaction, Delta’s total A321neo fleet will grow to 189 aircraft, making it the largest-scale fleet type in Delta’s history and underscoring Delta’s focus on efficiency and premium growth.

Delta took delivery of its first A321neo in 2022, and the fleet has since expanded to 92 aircraft in service, with 97 additional firm orders, inclusive of this option exercise. Delta also retains options for 36 additional A321neos, providing flexibility to support future fleet and network needs.

A high gauge, highly efficient narrowbody supporting a premium customer experience

As the highest gauge next generation narrowbody in Delta’s fleet, the A321neo delivers strong cost performance while supporting Delta’s sustainability goals. The aircraft offers the lowest unit cost of any narrowbody in Delta’s fleet and is 20–30% more fuel efficient than the current generation aircraft it replaces.

A critical element of Delta’s premium strategy, the A321neo features more Delta First and Delta Comfort seats than any other narrowbody aircraft in Delta’s current fleet. This premium capacity allows Delta to better meet premium demand across domestic and short haul international markets. Year-to-date, the A321neo has the highest cabin satisfaction scores among Delta’s narrowbody fleet, according to internal analysis.

The aircraft’s modern cabin includes Delta First, Delta Comfort and Delta Main, with customer-focused features such as seatback entertainment, power at every seat, larger overhead bins and upgraded seating designed to elevate comfort across all cabins.

All aircraft from this order will be powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines, which deliver fuel burn and noise reduction benefits that support Delta’s efficiency and sustainability objectives. Delta’s longstanding partnership with Pratt & Whitney (spanning more than 90 years) is further supported by Delta TechOps, which maintains these engines using industry leading inhouse maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. Delta TechOps joined the GTF MRO network in 2019 and has steadily expanded its capabilities, opening a 155,000squarefoot dedicated GTF facility in Atlanta and supporting both next generation and legacy Pratt & Whitney engines.

As Delta positions its fleet to support growth in the decade ahead, the A321neo remains central to the airline’s strategy to serve customers more efficiently while continuing to elevate the onboard experience.

This is the third aircraft order announced by Delta this year. Last month, the airline announced two separate orders — totaling more than 60 widebody aircraft — for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as well as the Airbus A330-900 and A350-900.

Croatia Airlines retires last Airbus A320ceo.

Croatia Airlines (OU, Zagreb Franjo Tuđman) retired its last of a once four-strong fleet of A320-200s on January 26, 2026. 9A-CTO (msn 2178) operated its last flight on the Zagreb-Amsterdam Schiphol-Zagreb route and has been parked at the Croatian gateway since then. The 22-year-old aircraft is owned by Macquarie AirFinance. Croatian Airlines continues to operate four legacy A319-100s and three DHC-8-Q400s, alongside an A220-100 and six A220-300s.

Air India fined $110k for flying unairworthy A320neo

India's civil aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has fined Air India (AI, Delhi International) INR10 million rupees (USD110,000) for operating an A320-200N, VT-TQN (msn 11097), without a valid airworthiness certificate.

According to a regulatory order issued on February 5, the penalty addresses eight commercial flights conducted on November 24 and November 25, 2025. The DGCA stated that the lapse had "further eroded public confidence and adversely impacted the safety compliance of the organisation."

The regulator held Air India chief executive Campbell Wilson accountable for the violation. It also suspended two senior executives from the carrier's Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation.

Reuters reported that the Airbus aircraft operated sectors connecting Bengaluru International, Delhi International, Hyderabad International, and Mumbai International without a mandatory airworthiness review certificate (ARC). The airframe had undergone maintenance for one month prior to these flights, but engineering staff failed to renew the expired permit before the jet returned to service.

An internal investigation by the Tata Sons-owned airline identified "systemic failures" and insufficient cross-checks. The inquiry revealed that the head of the defect cell closed a query regarding required approvals without conducting proper verifications.

"All identified gaps have since been satisfactorily addressed and shared with the authority," the airline said in a statement to Reuters. Air India noted that it had voluntarily reported the non-compliance to the regulator.

GOL Linhas Aereas confirms A330-900 operations

In October 2025, Scramble reported that the Abra Group, the owner of Avianca, GOL and Wamos Air, signed a lease-agreement with Avolon for up to seven Airbus A330-900s. We also mentioned that it was expected that these would be operated by GOL Linhas Aéreas.

Now, we can confirm that this is indeed happening as GOL has announced it expects to take delivery of its first Airbus in June 2026. Initially, they will be used domestically for crew familiarization but later deployed to destinations in Europe and the US.

All seven Airbuses are no strangers to the Brazilian aviation scene as they are coming from Azul Linhas Aéreas. The aircraft involved are:

PS-WGC (1895), currently flying as PR-ANY
PS-WGD (1924), currently flying as PR-ANX
PS-WGE (1934), currently flying as PR-ANW

FRONTIER AIRLINES TO CUT FLEET AND DEFER DELIVERIES

On 11 February 2026, Frontier Airlines announced its performance over 2025. Last year, the airline posted a loss of $137 million and because of that the airline is launching on a cost cutting drive that impacts the fleet and orders.

First, it reached an agreement with Airbus to defer the delivery of 69 A320neo-family aircraft on order. Originally, they were planned for delivery between 2027 and 2030. Now, they have been pushed back to 2031-2033.

Second, Frontier has agreed with lessor AerCap the early termination of the lease of 24 A320neos. The leases of these Airbuses was supposed to expire between 2028 and 2034 but will now start to leave the fleet later this year.

According to Frontier's CEO, these measures will generate a annual cost-saving of $200 million and ensure the airline can continue to grow more moderate.

Today, the airline's fleet is made-up of six A320s, 91 A321neos, 21 A321s, and 60 A321neos. It has unfilled orders with Airbus for twelve A320neos and 148 A321neos.

Air Canada discloses order for eight Airbus A350-1000s

Toulouse, France, 12 February 2026 – Air Canada has disclosed a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, marking a pivotal upgrade to the airline’s long-haul fleet strategy with an additional commitment to Airbus widebody aircraft. The order was listed as undisclosed in November 2025.

The A350-1000’s economics and lower operating costs will deliver a significant competitive advantage to Air Canada. With an industry-leading range of up to 9,000nm, the latest generation widebody aircraft will be central to the airline’s global expansion, enabling seamless, non-stop connectivity from Canada to high-growth markets across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

Tigerair Taiwan orders four Airbus A321neo

Singapore, 4 February 2026 – Tigerair Taiwan has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for four A321neo aircraft, marking the airline’s first order for this type. The new aircraft will support the airline’s network expansion while delivering improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to previous generation aircraft.

The low-cost carrier which currently operates a fleet of 17 A320 Family aircraft, including nine A320ceo and eight A320neo, will benefit from greater commonality across the A320 Family, reducing training, maintenance and operating costs.

“The purchase of A321neo aircraft is a cornerstone of our ‘third-generation’ fleet expansion, designed to maximise operational efficiency as we scale for regional dominance,” said Chairperson Joyce Huang of Tigerair Taiwan. “Configured with 232 seats, the A321neo allows us to increase capacity on our high-demand ‘golden routes’ and accelerate network expansion. By serving more passengers across more destinations with a lower cost per seat, this investment reinforces our position as Taiwan’s leading LCC. Furthermore, it advances our journey toward a younger, more fuel-efficient fleet that meets both our commercial and ESG targets.”

Compared with previous-generation aircraft, the A321neo delivers a reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions of at least 20%.

The A320neo Family has received more than 10,000 orders from over 130 customers worldwide. All Airbus aircraft are capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with a target to enable 100% SAF capability by 2030.

Airbus closer to A220-500 launch

Airbus seems to becoming closer to an official launch of the A220-500, the long awaited stretched version of the A220. According to Reuters, the manufacturer will launch official sales talks with prospects in the coming weeks.

If the project receives a positive welcome from potential customers, the next step would be a formal approval by the Airbus-board. If things go well, it's expected that the A220-500 could be officially launched by July of this year.

The proposed A220-500 would be a "simple" stretch, with no changes to the aircraft's engines or wings. It will increase the seating capacity to a maximum of around 180 passengers, which is 20 more than the A220-300 can carry. Because of the increased weigth, the A220-500 will have less range than the A220-300. Various experts expect the aircraft to be able to fly up to four hours with its maximum load.

A lengthened A220 has always been considered by Airbus and was also plotted by Bombardier, which dubbed it the CS500. The European manufacturer over the years had been reluctant in launching the version as profitable production of the current versions proved challenging. A stretched A220 would also encroach on the territory of the A320neo. However, with production of the A220 becoming more stable and more customers choosing the A321neo over the A320neo, it seems Airbus is now confident enough to pull the trigger.

A220-customers like Air France, Breeze and Delta Air Lines have always publically stated their interest in a stretched version and it's interesting to see who will become the launch customer(s) if the project is officially launched.
