Something weird is going on for Kurt. He was blindsided by his wife, who announced she wanted a divorce. She then ran out the door when their daughter, Corley, came down the stairs asking what was going on. Corley didn't take the abandonment well. She lost all control, and Kurt had to intervene to keep her from getting run over as she chased her mother's car down the street...but something weird happened. The next morning, his wife was back, and more pleasant than ever. It didn't make sense, but what could Kurt do?

Afterward, Rish and I talk about the story, and just what to do with the conundrum of splitting long stories into pieces. You know, your comments on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

A woman receives a letter years after it was supposed to arrive, but it seems meant to be, as if someone were granting her heartfelt wish...or will it be her worst nightmare that comes to pass?

Afterward, Rish and Big discuss some of the joys of being a writer, like the getting to name as many children as you want, instead of only getting to name the children you bear like a regular person. They also talk writing to prompts, and whether it affects the quality of a story.

I tried really hard to come up with something other than, "Houston, we have a problem," because that phrase, and countless inane variations of it, are pretty much the only thing anyone uses in conjunction with the word Houston. For example, when the Astros won the world series, what was the headline in the newspaper? "Houston, we have a championship." It gets tedious. So, I went a totally different direction and came out with a much worse title for the episode. Sorry.

I ramble way too much, and get sidetracked, and even talk about my cat, which is crazy. Watching this show, I realize that I need to get these Anklecasts out more often, so I can make them shorter, more to the point, and tell better stories in them. Hopefully, I can get that going, but you know me, so probably not.

He is a lazy, worthless douche though. Simply the worst.

Now that we've gotten that off our chest, here he finally is with a new episode of the Anklecast. Big Anklevich talks about his experience weathering the storm named Harvey. Wait, he's a Harvey survivor? Now I have guilt for calling him a douche. I shouldn't have done that.

No one knows why, but he decided to make it a video episode again, despite nearly no one watching the last one. He's a masochist, I guess. Anyhow, he's here to share another story from his back catalog. Probably one that should have been left in the trunk, but Rish Outfield shared his version over on The Rish Outcast, so he felt he ought to release his own version as well. Enjoy the podcast and the story.
Sorry folks. I don't know if anyone's all excited about that or not, but I'm not there yet. However, just after putting out the call for listener input on the last episode I happened to get together with Rish Outfield on an evening when we weren't ready to record anything else, so we decided to record an Anklecast. Then, sadly, I let it sit for a long time...like Stephen King does with his short stories, right?...it had to mellow a little. Also, the crazy time of year descended upon us, so there was that too.

Anyway, Rish and I got together, and we talked about...you guessed it! Writing! It must have been an effective talk, because since recording it, I've written my first short story in about a year. So, huzzah! If you're an aspiring writer, you'll probably enjoy this. If you're not...you might enjoy it? Either way, thanks for listening.

This show is months late, because I was too ashamed to admit how little success I'd had with the novel writing thing. But sooner or later, you gotta fess up, so you can move on. So here I am with an apology, and a dedication to someone who deserved better.

In this month's episode, I answer a listener's question about the Dunesteef Novel Writing Challenge. I give a little bit of a teaser about what my novel will be about. Also, there's another story in the episode. Some people commented last week about how they liked the idea of having stories in the show, so I tried real hard and got one in there. It's the reason why the episode is so late, but you guys don't care, right?

So, hopefully you enjoy "Onward to the Breech".

I'm going to turn it around, however. It won't be my condition forever. Novel writing time is coming up, and my story is starting to burn away in my mind. I'm getting excited about it. But I've got to make some changes to make this novel thing succeed.

I talk a bit about that, and I have a special surprise. Normally I don't do stories on here, but I wanted to show that I can turn things around, so I did one this month. It's a little bit of flash fiction called "One Million Miles." If you like it, let me know, and I'll try to do one more often.

Oh, and something I've never had before but will in today's show is a listener question! A listener sent me an MP3 file of their question, and I answer it on the show. That'll be fun too. All around good times today. Hope you enjoy it.
Music for the story was "Despair and Triumph." And my regular music montage is "Crossing The Divide." Both are courtesy of Kevin MacLeod of Incompetech.com.

I haven't even gotten past the outlining stage of my first story for 2013. I talk about my difficulties, beg for a little help from my listeners, and give a synopsis of my story in this latest Anklecast.

Listen, and then comment, please.

I talk a little bit about my trip to Vegas with Rish for the New Media Expo. I also report on my success and then my lack of success on keeping up with the goals I set for myself in 2013. Good thing they reset each week, so I can get started on them again.

But make sure not to miss this one, or you won't hear the story of the dead mouse.

Live for now.

It's a stupid commercial slogan for Pepsi, but it resonated for me anyway. It didn't make me want to drink Pepsi, because I don't like that stuff at all really, but it did make me think I need to get on with my life, and achieve what I want to achieve.

Over the last few weeks, I've been trying to set out some writing goals for 2013. Here they are:

Record story planning session each trip to work.
Transcribe recording upon arriving.
Read a chapter in a writing improvement book once a week.
Write 30 mins each lunchbreak.
Write at least 30 minutes a day.
5000 words a week.
20000 words a month.
25 stories a year, 2 per month.
Report about it on the blog.

While on my drive to work today, I pulled out my tablet, and recorded myself talking about these goals. It's something I'm hoping to do once a week. It'll just be me talking about whatever I feel about talking about. I'm going to call it the Anklecast. So, here is episode 1. Enjoy it if you can.

Oh, and yes, I know the quality of the sound is total crap. I think I can improve it, but I'll need a few things to make it happen, so I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to do that. Hopefully right away, or close to it. We'll see. But bear with me, and things will get better. They sure can't get worse, right?

<itunes:explicit>yes</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>Because now has never happened before, and it only lasts for now.
