Barcelona Pride 2024

As an open-minded city, Barcelona will celebrate Pride on more than one day. In July a few days after the International Pride Day the city will welcome Barcelona Pride from 18^th to 20^th July 2024.

Since 2008, PRIDE BCN has been run by volunteers from the Queer scene and the gifts the city with one week of pure celebration that ends with a big colourful parade. The whole city of Barcelona turns into a Pride fever. The event is festive but also with a strong, significant meaning on the importance of protests in fighting for human rights and acceptance.

More than 250,000 people from all around the globe are expected to come to Barcelona and take part in this colourful event. This makes the Barcelona Pride one of the biggest Prides in Europe!

The programme of PRIDE BCN includes concerts, conferences, talks, movies and exhibitions to spread awareness and get people to think about this important topic. It is a safe and peaceful space, welcoming everyone including families and children.

Restaurants & Bars

Barcelona offers a variety of clubs and bars inclusive for the queer community.  The neighbourhood Eixample is even renamed to Gayxample, where you can find a multitude of friendly bars to have a drink and dance! Here are some of our recommendations all part The Believe Group BCN:

1. Pink Corner BCN

The Pink Corner is one of the gay bars in Gayxample that makes diversity and pride visible. As you may have assumed, the bar is very pink and serves fruity cocktails and snacks, which you can enjoy inside and out on the terrace.

2. Priscilla Bar

Almost next to Pink Corner you will find Priscilla bar, which offers tapas and cocktails to the music of kitsch-pop. The inside of the bar is very lively and decorative. We recommend this bar if you’re a fan of drag shows!

3. La Chapelle

La Chapelle is a small, cosy bar with a terrace where you can relax and enjoy your drinks. The decoration definitely has something holy to it, due to its religious theme. This bar is also a café by day where you can drink a coffee and eat a little snack.

4. LaCarrà BCN

LaCarrà BCN is all about joy and happiness which, allowing you to shine. This bar is a tribute to one of the LGBTQI+ Idols Raffaella Carrà.

5. La Federica

A cosy little bar that serves tapas and cocktails in Sant Antoni, near El Raval. The interior is very colourful and looks like a café. They also support local artists with small exhibitions. 

Night Clubs

Barcelona offers some fabulous places to go clubbing. The Arena Club Barcelona is a group of gay clubs located in Eixample, which we certainly recommend. So, here are our top picks of the clubs that you need to check out, if you are into dancing all night long.

1. Arena Sala Madre

This club delivers electronic, house and dance music to which you can dance until your feet hurt! Or, if you like more special shows you can visit on some weekdays to get the full experience. It’s open every day of the week from Monday to Sunday.

2. Safari

The Safari Club is a real wildlife experience. Also open every night of the week, this two room club, serves you pop music parties which are also themed so look up what party you want to join and go for a night out dancing!

3. Believe

This special club is not only a gay club, but a drag cabaret club in the heart of the city. You will not be disappointed by the drag artists and pole dance shows.

Art & Culture

Barcelona also offers a range of art and culture, which tells you about Barcelona’s queer history.

1. Librería Antinous

Founded in 1997, this bookstore, offers a wide range of books, DVD’s and Blu-ray all focusing on LGBT issues and queer topics. In 2016 it decided to move from the Ciutat Vella district to Eixample.

2. Casal Lambda

This non-profit organisation works for the recognition of the rights and freedoms of the LGTBIQ+ community. It supports the visibility and the normalisation of queer people and the whole LGBTQI+ community.

3. La Raposa

La Raposa is a collaboration between a feminist bookstore and a vegan restaurant in Poble Sec. On the in- and the outside there are countless recreational and cultural activities for everyone to join. This definitely is a place to give diversity more attention.

4. Centro LGTBI de Barcelona

The LGTBI Centre is a meeting point, place of reflection and beacon of diversity in the city of Barcelona. It is a widely accessible public facility from which you can access information, orientation and direct assistance services. The centre develops a community action and awareness-raising programme, which complements the activities that go on there, promoted by the various organisations that use this amazing facility.

A little bonus: if you get a sudden craving for raclette, the owner will be happy to lend you a machine and prepare a magnificent cheese platter.

The petite and charming city of Girona is photogenic at any time of the year, but wait ‘til you visit during its annual festival, the Temps de Flors. Each spring, during the second week of May, people flock from all over Spain to Girona’s Barri Vell neighbourhood to admire its colourful streets lined with spectacular floral displays.

Monuments and courtyards are transformed into remarkable ornamental gardens, so you can enjoy the wonderful ensemble of vibrant colours and glorious aromas which perfectly accompany the fascinating cultural and historical heritage of this city.

This unique way to explore the city often includes free entry and access to sites that would normally be closed to the public. And what’s more, the Girona Temps de Flors can be enjoyed all for free!

The Festival

This year, from the 11th-19th May, Girona’s internationally famous flower festival will be celebrating its 69th anniversary, after its many years of success and unbelievable creativity. There will be over 100 individual flower and plant displays, with the most impressive exhibitions held at the Cathedral Steps, the Arab baths, Saint Nicholas’ Chapel and Les Sarraïnes.

In addition to this, there will be several other exciting events taking place throughout the city in name of the festival, such as the Gastroflors. Each year, a range of restaurants in the city offer themed menus with a floral twist where certain flowers will feature as an ingredient in their dishes; so let your taste buds ‘blossom’ by trying something new!

There will also be flower, photography and film competitions and plenty of other things worth getting involved in.

Girona: the City and the Barri Vell

Girona is the ideal spot if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the Catalan capital, especially with it being just 100km from Barcelona. With all the charm and qualities of a larger city, thanks to its cultural richness and the myriad of things to do here, it would be foolish not to make time for this glorious mediaeval city during your visit to Barcelona.

The Temps de Flors only enhances the beauty of the quaint and quirky Barri Vell, Girona’s old quarter. Its rustic and French vibe has a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ with its riverside flanked by multicoloured houses and winding alleyways that open out onto enchanting squares.

It truly is one of the most picturesque areas of the city, especially when covered with an exquisite selection of flowers.

Getting There

The best way to travel from Barcelona to Girona is from Passeig de Gràcia via Renfe trains. During Temps de Flors, the train company Renfe usually offers a discount on return tickets, so make sure to check their website before booking transport!

Check timetables online beforehand for train times. Trains to Girona usually run every 20-30 minutes.

Top Tips

• Avoid heading to the festival at the weekend if possible. The festival is extremely popular with both locals and tourists and towards the end of the week, the narrow streets of the Barri Vell are often heaving which can be particularly unpleasant, especially with the warm weather.
• Be prepared to queue, especially for the most popular displays. Restaurants also get very crowded at lunchtime with queues of up to an hour just to get into some of the most central restaurants.
• If you’re able to, stay overnight in Girona to avoid both an early start/late finish, and travelling twice in one day. You also want to make the most of the displays and see them at night, as the exhibits on the River Onyar are at their best at this time.
• Pick up a free A3-sized map at one of the participating venues so you can get your bearings and make sure not to miss any other of Girona’s hotspots.
• Whilst exploring the Flower Festival, make sure to keep an eye out for the numerous concerts, workshops, exhibitions, and dance performances that have also been organised throughout the city.
