But if you look closely, you'll find on the lowest staff line a smudge. A Louuud smudge. This is the enchanting music of sign. Artist Christine Sun Kim was born deaf; she thought for the longest time that sound wasn't a part of her life and what would have been an obstacle in her career as an artist became the center of her art. Because like ASL, music is "highly special and highly inflected meaning that subtle changes can affect the entire meaning of both signs and sounds."</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is girl of a petite frame walking over cobblestones to get to class with literal weight on her shoulders. She climbs low steps and walks past the Alma Mater who has been defaced by red tape time and time again. This girl, Emma Sulcowicz carried the blue mattress as a symbol of the burden a victim of sexual assault carries and as a protest against Columbia University for shrouding this case in secrecy.</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Art is loud.</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Art is bold.</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Art is beautiful.</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Art is transcendental and transformative.</span></p> <p><br /> <br /></p>]]></description>
