Our guest on this podcast is none other than Bonita Mersiades, the former Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the Football Federation of Australia. Bonita was released from her duties at the FFA when she questioned some of the actions in relation to Australia’s World Cup bid. She was one of only two people named as a “whistleblower” when FIFA published its abridged results into its investigations into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids, yet has had the courage and conviction to continue to fight for what she believes is right in the game she loves. We could have spoken for so much longer, as she has a great deal to say and is still heavily involved with the New FIFA Now movement.

On this show John and Ashley discuss the bizarre and worrying fact that Meldonium sold out on the internet following Maria Sharapova’s positive drug test. They talk about the Perth Wildcats continued success and what a phenomenon they have become. They also look at the Perth Glory’s turnaround since Christmas and how the club is hopefully on the right track with no surprises lurking around the corner.

Special guest on this podcast is former Scotland goalkeeper Campbell Forsyth. Forsyth looks back on playing for the Scotland youth team after completing a full day’s work, defeating England three times in a row and playing alongside greats such as Billy McNeill, John Greig and Slim Jim Baxter. He also played for Kilmarnock in the European Cup which will bring back special memories for Killies fans. There is a strong Australian connection, as Forsyth’s grandson, Cameron Burgess plays for the Olyroos.

In our first Podcast of 2016 we look back on some of the key sporting events of 2015. We talk Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Football.

Our Guest on this opening show is the President of the Australian Football Agents Association, Peter Paleologos. Much has changed in terms of player representation and the de-regulation could see many a player or parent sign a contract that is not going to be good in the long term. Peter and fellow members of the AFAA are trying to maintain standards and educate as well as try and do the best for each talented Australian.

The second part of this interview will be featured in our second podcast and both contain useful information for players, parents and clubs. Hopefully many will learn what they are entitled to and the best way to approach a career in football.

Two great guests who have both overcome adversity and shown that there is always a solution to a problem. Andrew Liddawi was the first paraplegic to take part in the Cape to Cape Mountain Bike event two years ago when he completed one stage of the gruelling event. This year he completed all four stages, all 200KM. We catch up with him and hear how hand-cycle Mountain Biking is now growing.

Sutherlan Scudds is a man wo we have featured on the show before as he pursues his fencing dream of representing Australia at the Rio Olympics. Last year was more testing than most for WA Institute of Sport athlete Sutherlan as he suffered a seizure during training which revealed a brain tumour. He has battled through that setback and is once again on the path to qualify for Rio.

Also under the microscope is whether South Africa having won their confederation’s Hockey Championship should be allowed to go to Rio. The South African Olympic Committee had announced that even if they won the title the team would not go, due to a lack of funds. Now the team is trying to drum up support to take the place they won on merit.

We also review the Rugby World Cup and its impact on the NRC here in Australia, as well as discuss whether Perth Glory did deserve to host the FFA Cup final, as well as whether this competition really has caught the imagination of the fans; crowd figures would say it hasn’t. On this Podcast we catch up with Martin Fitzsimons from the Midwest Academy of Sport based in Geraldton. This facility has not been open that long and yet its goals are admirable in trying to nuture talent but also protect the athlete. WE also talk to The Manchester United Supporters Club’s Lee Stroud. It may seem incredible but the Supporters Club in Perth folded several years ago and Lee and a few other fans have worked hard to create a new club and bring United fans to gather on a match day. They have also assisted in bringing their first ex player to Perth, Paul Parker. (Tickets)

As usual there is plenty to discuss. We discuss the issue of State representative sides having to pay to play for Western Australia and whether sport is now becoming only for the wealthy. The rugby World Cup gets some attention as well as the dumbest trophy ever created “The Long Distance Derby Cup,” and on a positive note how Kevin Muscat and Tim Cahill helped a dying man. We also discuss whether children with talent should be given the chance to play above their age and whether it indeed helps their development.
