This week we chinwag about a funny story Jess encountered with her pup, Pepe. Afterward we chat with Kristina London, founder of Amplify Her Voice. From a young age, founder Kristina London knew that she wanted a career in the music industry. However, while working her first few internships and jobs in the music industry, the gender divide became abundantly clear. In May 2019, London used her background in marketing and social media to create an active online space for women in the music industry to learn and find a sense of community. Within just a couple of months, London was collaborating with major music festivals, businesses, and artists to further promote equality in music. In less than a year, the account organically reached over 10,000 followers and is continuing to grow as they expand their online community. Amplify Her Voice is an online platform that boldly confronts gender inequality in the music industry. They are dedicated to helping advance the careers of women in music through educational, networking, and creative opportunities. With these initiatives, they aim to provide our community the tools and support to confidently pursue a career in the music industry.

This week we chinwag about as Jess and Bowie’s experience using Masterclass. Afterward, we chat with Australian singer/songwriter Zoe Badwi.

Zoë Badwi began her music career as one third of girl band Sirens before embarking on a solo career that has so far spawned several club chart-topping anthems. She joined girl group trio Sirens, who scored two hits, "Like Fire, Like Rain" and a cover version of the Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited" before disbanding in 2001. Badwi continued to write and perform, and was later spotted fronting band, Black Dogs. Performing at a Melbourne club, electronic duo TV Rock's Grant Smillie, was so impressed by her vocals that he invited her to work with him. After signing to Neon Records, her debut solo single, "Release Me," was nominated for Best Dance Release at the 2009 ARIA Award and APRA awards. It was followed by Top Ten single "Freefallin'." She secured a U.S. deal with Atlantic Records and began work on her debut album and tours the world performing, including touring with Little Mix.

This week we chinwag about the benefits of having a Music Business degree, especially as an artist. Afterward with chat with singer/songwriter MEIA. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, MEIA knew she wanted music to be part of her life from the beginning. She started singing, writing music and playing instruments ever since she was a little girl. “My mom would tell you I was humming before I was singing and dancing to every beat. My first experience writing a song was when I was 8 years old, lol. It was called “Let it out” and it was about being unafraid to say how you feel. Looking back on the concept and my ability to turn a feeling into art - I am proud of baby MEIA.”. Once she turned 18, she moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University where she studied Music Business and pursued her artist project, MEIA. MEIA grew up loving alternative pop culture. The 90's baby listened to various artists such as Britney Spears, Rihanna and Avril Lavigne, which have had a huge influence on the music she loves to create. Now residing in Nashville, she writes from personal experience and is unafraid to be raw, emotional, and real. She empowers her fans by turning dark situations into light, especially with her breakup anthems. MEIA is wildly independent, fiercely in touch with her femininity, and wants her fans to be able to escape the world when listening to her songs. MEIA has shared the stage with Why Don't We, Spencer Sutherland, Eben, Jake Miller, and more.

This week we chinwag about the lack of well-known female producers in the music industry. Afterward we chat with music producer, Esjay Jones. Esjay is a South African-born producer & songwriter now based between Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, California, who had her first major cut in the U.S. alongside co-writer Justin Tranter in 2013 with the single “I Choose U” by TimeFlies on Def Jam Records. Since then, she has worked with Sean Kingston, Jeffree Star, Olivia Holt, Escape The Fate, Mystery Skulls with Nile Rodgers and Brandy, Chester Rushing ('Stranger Things'), Alien Ant Farm, and many others.

Esjay has had over a decade of success in the music Industry: during the first part, she cemented herself as one of South Africa’s top rock vocalists fronting Durban-based band, Stealing Love Jones. The band achieved mainstream success with 4 #1 Singles, as well as sharing the stage with major international acts like Fall Out Boy, Violent Femmes, Seether, Jimmy Eat World, and many more.

She is currently a part of the production team for the re-imagined 'GREY DAZE' album (Chester Bennington reels from 1994-1997), featuring Head & Munkey from Korn, Ryan Shuck of Orgy, Chris Traynor of Bush, and more.

Rae Harvey is one the top music managers in the Australian Music Industry. She managed HUGE Australian band, the Living End and 360, and also brought out acts to Australia such as Blink 182. She's literally done everything and is an absolute legend.

After working in the music industry for over 25 years, Rae hit an animal driving and had a massive self realization... she needed to work with animals. From that moment on, she pursued her dream to one day own a kangaroo sanctuary and eventually set one up in New South Wales.

The devastating Australian fires earlier this year saw her entire Kangaroo Sanctuary and home burn down. Over a billion animals were killed in the fires. Kangaroos, Wombats, Koalas and thousands of other species. Absolutely devastating. Rae almost lost her own life in the fires, narrowly escaping by boat thanks to being rescued by a neighbor. She has since returned to the property to rebuild and look after the kangaroos, many of which returned injured after the fires. We tell her story.

This week Jess and Bowie chat with Kay Hanley from Letters to Cleo. Letters to Cleo emerged from the Boston rock scene in the early 90’s, having released three full length albums during their time together. You would recognize Letters to Cleo from the soundtracks to movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You, The Craft, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and more. You would also recognize Kay as the singing voice of Josie from the movie Josie and The Pussycats!

We’re thrilled to have Kay on the podcast as we chat about her start with LTC, her experience on set of filming 10 Things I Hate About You, and her post-band career writing songs for shows on Disney, Cartoon Network, Netflix, and more!
