Back in time for Summer 2021, Juvi Da Gemini’s Broken Silence EP is an instant hit as he gives fans and listeners alike the most authentic version of himself to this day.

If you’ve been following this blog, you’ve already heard about Juvi Da Gemini. In 2015, I produced two of his famous tracks, East and 26, which garnered over 70,000 streams combined. Shortly after, Juvi experienced issues with the law and our artist-producer relationship had to take a backseat. Despite this, we kept in touch and since then, I’ve witnessed Juvi grow both as a person and an artist.

lil Black boy - Sir Eddie C

I had the pleasure of virtually meeting Sir Eddie C at work during the pandemic (we both work at a FinTech). With the current outrage surrounding systemic racism around black people, I thought Sir Eddie C had a powerful message I couldn’t ignore. Mental health during this time is very important for all of us and “lil Black boy” sheds light on that.

Sir Eddie C is a St. Louis based Hip-Hop artist that specializes in what is self described as “regular people music”. His artistic identity meets at several points, but being “jiggy” and political/social awareness are important themes in his music. A Green Girl Leah interview quote of his sums it up, “I’m aware of political frameworks, but I’m really into jiggy sh*t too.” 

This “regular people music” lens allows him to navigate and explore a multitude of themes because he believes people are complex and aren’t just one thing. With this approach, he has been able to speak at Washington University (St. Louis) on creativity & premiere his video “Go Crazy (Young Eezy)”. He has also traveled nationally with stops as diverse as Chicago and New Orleans. Also, from May to June 2020, inspired by his song “lil Black boy” he was able to raise $16,000 USD (with an original goal of $1,000) for free mental health sessions for Black men (aka “lil Black boys”). Basically, he can do any and everything. 

Though a solo artist primarily, Sir Eddie C is also apart of the noWhere artist collective that won “Best Hip-Hop Group” at the St. Louis Underground Music Fest awards. The group serves as a major beacon of creativity coming out of the city of St. Louis and this beacon shines brighter than most with the group’s obsession with the colour yellow. When noWhere and Sir Eddie C say they are “In the building!” audiences take notice.

Juvi Da Gemini - East Music Video

Back in 2015, when I was living in Ottawa, Ontario, I met Juvi Da Gemini while he was hosting at PPL Nightclub. Juvi is originally from Toronto, but made quite the name for himself in the Ottawa hip-hop scene. His 2015 hit single, “East” garnered him a ton of local support and the the video pushed his growth even further. Since then, Juvi has released several hit songs, opened for Tory Lanez and Akon, and hosted events for many nightclubs and celebrities including: Big Sean and Kevin Hart.

The “East” video features Juvi Da Gemini taking a stroll down memory lane by offering visuals of the Scarborough middle school he once attended (John Buchan) while reflecting on the darker aspects of his upbringing. “East” lets Juvi Da Gemini tell his story, what he has gone through, and overcome along the way. Foolish Mortal!

In the very long period after school and before I started working, I stumbled upon some really great resources for music producers who need vocals without all the hassle of licensing, rights, etc. One of those websites was looperman.com. Existing well before the time of Splice and everything else that is out there, Looperman was how I found the vocals to “Rewind” by Farisha.

For any producers who need inspiration to make a beat, Looperman is free, while Splice is subscription based. The quality of files on Looperman are hit-or-miss but on Splice, it’s always in great quality. The cool thing about Splice is you can essentially “rent-to-own” Virtual Studio Technologies (VSTs), which are integral to every music producers workflow. A lot of them are also compatible with FL Studio which is my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) of choice!

Although Farisha and I have never met or actually spoken, she was kind enough to allow me use these vocals! Many thanks to you Farisha, and please reach out if you’d like to collaborate in the future!
