Hiding From the Moon

Too far to visit?

our home grown space agency

not to be confused with skill

wanders over time’s scope

no longer giving us thrills

for back in 1959

two years after Sputnik

we sent a probe around the moon

to take some pictures of it

yet how many moon rovers

do we have today

thrilling us with pictures

of a really strange space place

how competent is that space agency

which knows not how to travel

within earth/moon sphere

a question to unravel

did we land men on the moon in 1969

or did we fake ourselves to heaven

saving many dimes

skills today seem less than those developed

have you seen complexity

in their plan to date

to “return” to that orb

moving around in space

barely get to the space station

stuck there by lack of design

what should stand easy forever on

makes for a laughable crime

are we hiding from the moon

is there shame in that, disgrace

why don’t we climb all over it

or have we good faith displaced

money better spent on wars

can't think of one sincere

tell them please stand down

sanity questioned as if strange goofnuts

sometimes they wear funny hats

clothes designed for different slats

never could we that way curve

attention spun with spongy fervor

showmen, doormen, bartenders

softly settled to my ears

those words I wished to hear

brought me to a higher level

when written well, so treasured

waiting patiently among

the throng of citizens, no guns

a gentle lot of doers well

those who praise art and tales

standing up to do their best

to settle for all the rest of us

a trumpet sound of sculpted tones

ones with meaning held upon

a field of life, pages open

emotional tags, sometimes spoken

carry me to advanced nirvana

please read good words, not trivia

when they speak these honored verses

so well received and prizes awarded

my hand reaches for the door

so I might escape these awful chords

no, they don't speak for me

blank faces in the audience

when sung accolades flow quickly

me not them to revere

this didn't change my attitude

waiting for an end to it

was my only real desire

next week went to Vegas

to see the eagle band

and watch as pure emotion

rocked that audience grand

ten thousand had paid apiece

a couple hundred bucks

to see those wordly masters

they told of the situation

which emotion played upon

a woman's real life choices

why she'd become despondent

ten thousand cheered wildly

in recognition of great words

before advent of cameras

before a photograph

before instant gratification electric

there came what sure would pass

pass for capture of a moment

pass for emotional ties

to a world shoved away from us

a world of lost goodbyes

nature hates a void for life

so she fills those needs for us

to collect what now exists

to show those created from future dust

what came before, where and how

what ancestors looked like back then

and how, in their leisure time

they did laugh and grin

how people lived before one's era

life-like paintings needed thus

brush strokes of frozen rhyme

and people being seeded by lust

we react with pure emotion

when someone produces grand

paintings of a moment

when nature showed its plan

this finds a need and fills that void

with an artist's loving hand

so we in distant future

can get emotionally branded

touched with imagination

how they lived, how they loved

how us they did sow

I feel an obligation to shout out

what the arts mean to me

emotions tied to a rock

as people planted future trees

later, when science made for us

machines which froze the time

we could move to abstract themes

in paintings, sculptures, rhymes

Empathy

perhaps we’ve jumped ahead

of ourselves in self denial

who could see disaster

purely made in our own trials

Violence

we’ve not qualified

our leaders of this land

do they express empathy

for people of other lands

NGO's Do Regime Changes

or do they wish more power

NGO’s function for that thought

pushing dregs of humanity

to take over lands of crops

we feel we’ve standing in

this world of strange events

yet truth be told we’re outcasts

pushing people down to distress

a militant being loving those

thoughts of wars we fight

as if this an honorable endeavor

just creates more lands of blight

we punch holes in ozone

irradiate the soil

pour chemicals on crops

to cancer life embroiled

yes, we’re of that kind

who never lets this rest

sending pain and suffering

out for strong duress

we don’t care about those people

in our world of self derision

merely there to be sacrificed
