So myself and three other guys left for California’s wine country last Monday. Sadly, it wasn’t a trip to sip wine and eat cheese…it had a more technical and military type reason. I have to say, that I was pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, the area we were in was actually really beautiful; rolling green everywhere, and the people gave me a different impression than I’m used to from my past experiences with Californians. Everyone I met was extremely friendly, and I probably got thanked for my service every time I was in uniform. The climate was nice every day, not too hot, not too cold, and I actually found everything to be a very pleasant experience. I’m not going to say I’m looking to retire there, but even with my initial expectations and regularly looking for things to irritate me, I didn’t find any. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t mind making another trip out there.

The funny part is that somebody out there must have heard me say nice things about my trip to California, because when I got to the airport, I found that the flight that had been booked was actually for next Monday. Even that was no real issue since the flights are the same time every day and the flights today had seats available (no exit row, but I got bulkhead seats…so some extra leg room). But as I sit here in Tucson International Airport, waiting on the plane that emergency landed (no, there weren’t any flames or anything) to be repaired or for us to be loaded onto another plane. Hopefully within the next few hours, I will have been fully returned to San Antonio, and unless something else changes it [knock on wood], this trip will get chalked up to a generally pleasant visit.

Okay everyone, back when I first started playing with a blog (I think it was on the blogger platform prior to becoming a Google toy), one of my first blogs was about the drivers in Georgia being terrible. The impression I had of the ones here in Augusta, was that of the big city inconsideration of others, mixed with something that I can only assume comes from watching too many episodes of The Dukes of Hazard. That show, while a great show, was based in Hazard County, Georgia, and from what I can tell, a lot of the drivers here think they are driving the General Lee with Bo and Luke on those back country roads, while they’re traveling down I-20 in their Toyatas and Chevys.

So enough of the background information on why this rant is being reposted. This morning while waiting on people to arrive (because I showed up way too early), I read some of the info on the bulletin board and found a printout of http://autos.yahoo.com/news/15-dangerous-cities-for-driving.html from Yahoo. Florida has a good showing as is mentioned in the article, but Augusta, Georgia is the 3rd most dangerous place to drive in the continental United States. There’s obviously some wiggle room on that statement because the sampling only includes cities with populations over 150,000, so Podunkville, WV could have a population of 7, and having 1 accident would put their percentage much higher. However, barring Podunkville from the numbers, I can [OFFICIALLY] say that I was correct in assuming that drivers here are some of the worst generically anywhere.

To keep things related, after my original post about drivers in Augusta, GA, I posted about drivers in El Paso, TX. El Paso isn’t mentioned in this article, but my suspicion is that many of the accidents that happen in El Paso simply aren’t reported. El Paso is a border town, connected to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and that’s kind of how things are in a border town. In fact, I’m pretty sure, somebody wrote a country song about border towns back in the day. So there we have an update to my original post, also from back in the day. Driving in Augusta, GA is more dangerous than any other city, sans a couple in Florida, officially, and driving in El Paso is even worse, unofficially. I guess I should just be happy that I’m only back here in Augusta for a few months.

I guess if those don’t show up, then it means my settings are wrong and I’ll have to continue to tweak things.

This line should be 2 lines down from the last one, and will have a picture directly under it (linked to from photo bucket).

This line of text should be two spaces below the picture (thumb nailed clickble to a larger picture)

—Update

I’ve found the location to “comment out HTML tags, it’s in individual blog settings, not the program preferences like I thought…think it’s under advanced settings once you open the individual blog settings to modify them.

Had to go into blog settings to make sure weren’t commented. At least now it seems to work with standard HTML. It still doesn’t work with the IMG tags from photobucket, but photobucket seems to give more options to link than flickr did, so I might be going with that as my hosting of images provider of choice.

It’s been awhile since I’ve added anything to this blog. I’ve been insanely busy lately with the upcoming move to San Antonio and all the stuff that goes with the new job there. But I was playing around today with some new software and found Mac Journal, so I’ll at least see how it looks on the blog. Nothing special. Haven’t added any images or anything, just see if this matches up with CSS for the page for now.

Going to try adding some HTML in here:

Here’s where I use “[I M G] tags from photobucket
