Kayaking is a water sports that is generally similar to canoeing with the paddler's sitting position as the difference. Kayaking have two kinds; the whitewater kayaking and the sea kayaking (also referred to as ocean kayaking). Whitewater kayaking are ridden on a rapid water while sea kayaking are ridden on an open water.

Windsurfing is another water sports adventure that tourists and sports enthusiasts-alike can get omtp when they visit Boracay.

Windsurfing is another type of water surfing using a smaller version of a sailboat. There are rigs and a sail but the riding vessel is a board 3-12 meters long instead of a row-shaped boat. The sailor, as the rider is called, ride the sailboat with the wind as its row to experience the extreme ride. Consequently, this kind of surfing is best done during seasons when the wind in the seas and bays are strong enough to give the sailor a thrilling ride.

Windsurfing in Boracay is usually done in the Bolabog Beach where the sea and wind are rougher, but can also be done in the main beach when the climate exchanges to both sides.

Paraw Boat Sailing in Boracay

There are a lot of fun-filled recreation that you can engage to when you step onto the powdery white paradise Boracay. One that I had mentioned in my previous entry was wall climbing. In this entry, I will introduce Paraw sailing.

Paraw is a native boat mainly used for transportation and livelihood in Western Visayas particularly in Iloilo, Aklan and Panay Islands. Its hull is made of wood, bamboo for the outriggers and it has one small forward sail and a larger one. Paraw may accomodate up to six passengers and is controlled by a captain and assisted by a single crew member who balances the boat. These boats come in varying designs and colors. In the photo you see above, it copied the design of Yellow Cab. The Red Pirates is also one of the famous paraws in Boracay.

When the tourism industry in Boracay has started to prosper in terms of international tourists, paraw slowly became a major frolic larking for tourists, both local and foreign. This positive shift in the economy of the island brought a great opportunity for paraw owners in an easier and leisurely way for them to earn a living. Most of these boats can be seen trailing by the shore of station two all the way to station three. Try walking by the talc beach or even at the walkway right in front of the establishments and you will be greeted by these paraw owners and crew, persuading you to go island hopping with their paraws. The last time I visited the island, these people charge 600Php. But you can haggle the price down to even 400Php.

So if you haven't tried paraw boat sailing, be it you're a first time or returning tourist, don't skip paraw; it's one adventure that you surely don't want to miss.

Remember when you were still a child and your mother told you not to play with fire because it is dangerous and might either get you or your house burned? Well, I guess the people on the picture never listened to their parents (laughs). Yet, they have masterfully perfected the art of not getting burned (grin).

Firedancing was mostly influenced by the Maori tradition - they are a native of New Zealand. Now, firedancing are performed everywhere in circus, cultural theaters and tourist destinations like Boracay. Firedancers can be seen performing the fantastic show nightly at the Station 2 of Boracay so you have the chance to choose which day you would like to watch the performance. But, of course, they don't perform during bad weather.
