Ron Hubbard was an American science fiction author but is best known for creating the "Church of Scientology" which has between 10 million and 30 million followers depending on who publishes the figures. While researching this piece although it is called "Church of Scientology" there are major disputes into what it is with some calling it a cult, commercial organisation, some countries do recognise it as a church many others do not officially recognize it as a charitable organization or Church. I tried to find a single sentence to define "Scientology" the best I could come up with is "it teaches that people are immortal spiritual beings who have forgotten their true nature". Although there are any number of videos from critics below is one of them, I found difficulty finding a video I could to show what the "Church" does stand for, but whatever your thoughts it should be remembered they do appear to have some high profile believers. Sorry for the very controversial nature of Todays "Born This Day" but I found it interesting even if somewhat strange considering how many do follow this.

Featured Video

Born This Day In History 12th March

Celebrating Birthday's Today

Liza Minnelli

Born: 12th March 1946, Hollywood, California, United States

Known For : Liza Minnelli is an American actress and singer whose parents were the late great Judy Garland and film director Vincente Minnelli. The case is steeped in mystery 50 years later as following his original confession , he later retracted his confession and denied the assassination till his dying day. It is not unusual for a convicted murderer to deny the crime, but what is unusual in this case is the family of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr also believes he was innocent of the crime.
James Earl Ray was what many call a career criminal most of his adult life having been convicted and spent time in prison for burglary, armed robbery and mail fraud, and many believe an ideal patsy for whoever did commit the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Featured Video

Born This Day In History 9th March

Celebrating Birthday's Today

Yuri A. Gagarin became the first human to orbit Earth in the spacecraft, Vostok 1 on 12th April 1961, unlike many of todays astronauts / Cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin flew only one space mission which took mans space travel to the next level. As the first human being to view the earth from a spacecraft his words included "The Earth is blue, How wonderful. It is amazing". Nearly all human space explorers from the US and other countries who now participate in space travel utter similar sentiments. Colonel Gagarin died when the MiG-15 airplane he was piloting crashed near Moscow.
Mans quest for exploration and new discoveries is part of human nature and what makes man special. Because of the space race during those important years between the worlds two super powers at the time man not only flew in space but also managed to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade. Many consider he was the modern day "Columbus of the Cosmos" because of that special day in mans history.
PS Note from webmaster --- I try very hard to remember that mans ability to innovate, experiment and push the bounds of science is not down to any one culture, race or country and have featured men and women from every corner of the globe during my research Steve.

Featured Video

Born This Day In History 8th March

Celebrating Birthday's Today

Micky Dolenz

Born: George Michael Dolenz, Jr. March 8th 1945 Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Known For :

Michael Dolenz best known as the drummer vocalist of the television sitcom "The Monkeys" which appeared on American television from 1966 to 1968.
