“The key to wedding day skincare is knowing how much time you have before the wedding and working with a provider you trust,” Dallas explains, in one of our most helpful beauty features to date. When should someone start thinking about their skin before their wedding?

Ideally, skin prep should begin 9 – 12 months before the wedding, especially if someone is dealing with acne, pigmentation, texture, or early signs of aging. This allows time to correct concerns gradually and safely. Even starting 3 – 6 months before the event can still make a meaningful difference with the right plan and provider. 

What should soonlyweds prioritize first: products, treatments, or lifestyle?

It’s always a combination. Long-term skin health comes from professional treatments, the right home care, and lifestyle factors like stress, sleep, sun exposure, and nutrition. If they’re new to skincare, I usually start by simplifying at-home routines, calming inflammation with a facial and Red Light Therapy at home, and strengthening the skin barrier before layering in more advanced treatments. After that, I love to dive into collagen-building treatments for that inside-out glow. These are things even the best wedding makeup can’t hide.

How should someone choose the right aesthetician or medspa?

Education and safety matter most. Look for licensed providers who use FDA-approved devices, offer customized treatment plans without overselling, and prioritize ongoing education. You should feel listened to and supported, never rushed or pressured. Wedding prep should feel thoughtful and intentional. If your provider is rushing you into filler or Botox because you started “too late,” I’d look for a second opinion. Big treatments too close to the big day are a no-no. 

What treatments are best for wedding skin prep?

It’s very individualized, but common treatments include custom medical-grade facials, microneedling, IPL for redness and pigmentation, and chemical peels done well in advance. The goal is consistency and skin health, not dramatic last-minute changes. I also see a ton of brides at Renuva who are losing weight before the big day – and congrats to them! But one of the things that accompanies weight loss can be a drastic hollowing in the face, specifically the undereyes, cheeks, and around the mouth. This is the perfect area to get Sculptra, but you’ll want to start this 6 – 9 months before the wedding.

Are injectables something soonlyweds should consider?

They can be a great option for some, but timing is everything. If someone is new to injectables, I recommend starting at least 6 months before the wedding. The goal is to look refreshed and like yourself, not overdone. Starting 6 months ahead of time lets you gradually build without biting off more than you want to chew. It also gives ample time for swelling, bruising, adding, adjusting, and settling.

What’s the biggest mistake you see with wedding skin prep?

Waiting too long and trying to do too much right before the big day. I’ve even had brides try to get injectables and lasers the same week – absolutely not. New products or aggressive treatments close to the wedding can easily cause irritation or breakouts (or even worse). A good plan should make skin calmer and more resilient over time. Ideally, you’d want to give yourself an entire year of taking care of your skin really well.

It might be hard to understand from an outsider’s perspective, but the average medical spa will complete 1 – 3 per year. My philosophy behind helping others fix their skin is to be over-educated and pair that with the different modalities we have available to help them.

Your 12-Month Wedding Skin Prep Timeline

12 – 9 Months Before

This is the ideal time for a professional skin consultation. We assess the skin, review home care, correct inflammation, and create a long-term plan. Treatments like IPL, microneedling, Sculptra, tox, and corrective peels are best started here. This is when brides typically join our Revive Membership so they can work on the big stuff first and taper off later.

9 – 6 Months Before

Consistency is key. This is when skin truly starts to transform. We continue corrective treatments, fine-tune home care, and may introduce injectables, if desired. This window allows time for adjustments and refinement.

6 – 3 Months Before

The focus shifts from correction to maintenance. Treatments may be spaced out and more conservative. Skin should feel stronger, calmer, and more balanced – no major changes or experiments during this phase.

3 – 1 Month Before

At this stage, less is more. We prioritize hydration, barrier support, and gentle treatments. Facials are customized but non-aggressive. One last tox appointment can be inserted around 4 – 6 weeks prior, but only after having one or two successful tox appointments. New injectables and corrective lasers are typically paused here.

1 Month – Wedding Week

This is all about glow and calm. Think soothing facials, lymphatic work, LED therapy, and maintaining a simple, trusted routine at home. My favorite for the week of your wedding is a dermaplane facial, about 2 – 3 days before the big day, so your makeup sits beautifully. No new products, no last-minute trends.
